What will happened if I stopped using phone for a month?

Posted by Pixel_CZ

I really wanna try this, I hate how much we are disconnected in the real world. Everybody at the metro the bus or the tram always almost everyone has phone and headphones. And in my country specifically they look at TikToks / short content. I think It will maybe reconnect me and make me more think than just look it up on Google. what do you think about it? did you try this yourself and did it make you happier?

I have tried this for like 2 weeks? it felt amazing! you should try it. just turn it off and hide it somewhere and start living. cuz the phone was like a literal barrier between me and my life..

Technology is bound to us, but it is depends on the person... If you are bound that much you will go insane

I'm on a PC all the time but my phone can just sit in its charging cradle, unused for weeks at a time. I don't make or get very many calls at all and that's okay with me.

I tried living without a phone for 3 weeks bc mine broke and I couldn’t afford a new one. The most relaxing time of my life

That's the dream! I work from home and all my authenticator apps are on my phone....I'd probably make it about 15 minutes before needing a code. I grew up in the 90s and early 2000s....I miss the simplicity. The expectation that we always be available in this day and age is the worst.

I did a two-week phone detox last year and the first few days were rough, like catching yourself reaching for it without thinking every five minutes. By the end of the first week it got easier though. I started reading before bed instead of scrolling and my sleep genuinely improved. The thing that surprised me most was how much more I noticed about my surroundings, like I'd actually see things on my walk to work instead of staring at a screen the whole time. I'd say try a week first and see how it goes, a whole month might be a big jump if you've never done it before.

Did this during Covid...for months on end. I read like a maniac. I'm not exaggerating when I say I feel overwhelmed by how different the person I was before Covid sounded like in my writings.

during that month, you will be paranoid because your head is still processing where is the phone you used to use...

I think you'll get some new hobbies! Personally I find that when I don't have my phone I'm forced to entertain myself in a creative way. Sometimes I people watch (creepy? idk), read, draw something, and I've recently gotten into collecting things I find outside just for fun (so rocks, little souvenirs). I usually wouldn't do this if I had my phone

My phone is broken (the screen is completely black, and the only way I can see what's going on on it is connecting it to my laptop and using Samsung Dex) so I *had* to do this because I don't have the money to get it fixed yet nor to buy a new phone. First I quickly learned how many things in the modern world was connected to technology, and felt out of it for the first few weeks. It felt weird not having something to mindlessly scroll on and other conveniences at my fingertip. Contacting people has been hell, because I have to depend on Whatsapp or Google Phone lol Make sure to get a dummy flipphone or something if you're adamant on doing this. That being I'm basically living like it's the 2000s, and I'm pretty okay now. Losing my phone didn't kill me or anything. It wasn't the end of the world. Things just became a little less convenient, and that's okay. My online life stays at home, and I can embrace and take in the world around me more when I do go out. I don't worry about stupid online spats anymore. I'm more alert, I'm not always anxious because I'm not listening to short form "breaking news", "breaking news", "breaking news" all the time. I'm more selective with the media I consume because again, I didn't have everything at my fingertips anymore. For example, I now carry around a CD player and a few of my favorite CDs because I no longer have access to Youtube and Spotify.. I think this also makes me more appreciative of what I listen to because I *have* to sit and take it all in, instead of having the world's catalogue at my fingertips on Spotify. I have more offline hobbies that I'm more willing to do outside instead of doing them at home. I read in public more, I do puzzles like Sudoku, I have a small sketchbook that I mindlessly draw the things around me, and I even take pictures using a digital camera. I'm more appreciative of my online time when I get home as well because I don't have that access to it 24/7. Before, I could barely take my eyes off the screen--I guess I was truly addicted, because it felt like if I took my eyes away for a few seconds I would miss something. Now, I'm okay with being alone with my thoughts. So yeah, give it a try.

I do a lot of freelance/independent contract work, I don't think I could go off-grid for a full month without losing a massive amount of work/income and doing irrecoverable damage to my professional network. I've done stretches of about a week while on vacation in remote locations, but that only works if I: 1) let everyone know I'm going away beforehand, 2) still do a quick check for texts/calls/emails/messenger/calendar invites whenever I have a moment of cell service, and 3) accept the facts that I'm probably going to lose a couple bucks anyway, and there's going to be a massive amount of catch-up work on the other end. My phone is mostly a professional communications tool and music/podcast playback while driving, though. I'm not on most social media, I've never used TikTok, I'm not much of a social texter most of the time. If you feel like those things are a time sink, stop using them!
