They would probably raise the salary for prison guards until people would again want to work as prison guards.

it'd be a total mess, bro. prisons would probably be overrun and the whole system would struggle to keep things in check. kinda wild to think about.

They would have to raise pay.

Honestly? The same as the care industry - work would be outsourced overseas to those who were willing to do it (probably for a much lower salary too).
And then the British public would be enraged at more immigration and people ‘taking our jobs’.

Move the prisoners to an island like Alcatraz, drop food every few days and let them manage themselves.

Employment agencies would source people from overseas to take the roles

mate that's not quite how it works lol. if no one wanted to be a prison guard they'd just jack up the pay until someone took the job or bring in private security firms. the government's not gonna just open all the doors and say "off you go lads"
back when I was doing some work experience at a local gym we had this ex-guard who left because the pay was terrible and conditions were rough. he said they were already struggling to keep people even then, loads of turnover. but they'd sooner automate half the place or hire contractors than just let everyone walk free
