For me, the overwhelming part is how many separate issues there are any one of those would normally dominate headlines for years, but when they stack up like that, people just get numb to it. I’ve caught myself thinking that if this were literally anyone else, the consequences would’ve been immediate and career ending. It really shows how differently accountability can play out depending on who you are.

Our system has great defenses against a rogue President. The real problem is that American voters ALSO handed Congress to Trump's compatriots, which circumvented them all. - The DoJ is supposed to be a nonpartisan organization. If the President breaks the law, the DoJ should be the first to push the matter. But how is the head of the DoJ selected? The President nominates someone to run it. The Senate interviews them and gives consent. The Senates job is to make sure that the President is not appointing cronies. Trump made sure his cronies were the ones doing the approving. - Additionally, Congress has the power to act if the President oversteps his authority or breaks any laws. Our Congress has two houses, and both are controlled by Trump-supporting majorities. We HAVE checks and balances in our system, but the voters handed both sides of the balance scale to the same party, under the control of the very person the scale is supposed to be regulating. Voters did this. Because of that decision, there is NOTHING anyone can do to limit his power right now, short of armed insurrection or coup (which would undoubtably fail and be used by him to claim even more power). Our best bet is to take either of the houses of Congress in the midterms this fall. Taking even one of the houses from him will strip him of much of the unfettered power he's enjoyed so far and allow Congress to resume its role in regulating the power of the President.

He's already a convicted felon (while out of office) and has escaped consequences in dozens of other cases, why would anything happen? And the SC has made it clear he's absolutely untouchable now as president. His family members aren't president but of course they're just as protected. Since Trump controls the federal law enforcement apparatus as well as all the agencies who might be involved (SEC, etc.), he's the only one who could allow an investigation or prosecution to proceed.
