Disappear and live a very quiet, stress free life.

dover_oxide Apr 2, 2026 +160
Same here, I would still visit friends and family but no.one would know where I was or what I was doing 90% of the time.

theotherdude Apr 3, 2026 +63
Plus none of them will know how rich I am. I will wear c**** t-shirt and jeans, and the most expensive car I will drive is a second hand Corolla.
63
Zenama4 Apr 3, 2026 +84
F*** that. Im buying a fully outfitted accord. We ball.

vector_ejector Apr 3, 2026 +4
Treat myself to a '99 Dodge Stratus in Forest Green Pearl.
4
paco_o_chang Apr 3, 2026 +2
Ford E***** for nostalgia sake. It was my first car
2
coloredinlight Apr 3, 2026 +3
We are all joking, but as a car guy who's into classic japanese stuff, I would end up driving the absolute nicest Honda Civic money could buy.
3
DoggedDoggystyle Apr 3, 2026 +17
lol I get the sentiment but like.. isn’t this just your normal life?
17
heyitsYMAA Apr 3, 2026 +14
A lot of people aspire to that.
14
bananabastard Apr 3, 2026 +8
My family wouldn't need to know how rich I am, because if I won $500m, they would all be rich, too.
8
Emergentmeat Apr 3, 2026 +4
You wouldn't do anything for your family or friends?

What do you think I would be doing the 90% of the time no one knows what I'm doing

Masturbating?

You know what I wouldn't do? R*** children and then run for president...I know...CRAZY concept.
199
Ghost17088 Apr 3, 2026 +48
Same. I would also not r*** children regardless of my intent to run for president.
48
crypticcase Apr 3, 2026 +25
Personally i prefer avoiding r*** regardless of age, idk.
25
Sleepy_Redditorrrrrr Apr 3, 2026 +11

3

that's just the *norm*
2
Ghost17088 Apr 3, 2026 +3
You know what, I’m on board with that too!
3
WorldBoom Apr 3, 2026 +9
See, I'd r*** and murder and scam people as much as I want. It just so happens though that I don't want to do any of that, at all.
9
W0OllyMammoth Apr 3, 2026 +6
I think I’d try. I’d do all the smart things, park the money in low fee vehicles, still live a great life and not even spend the margins (that’s still 30m a year). But I think after 4-5 years I’d feel like I need to be doing more. That I am in a position to really make a difference. And I’d probably try that. Then I’d give up and go back to doing nothing but with less hope.
6
honestduane Apr 3, 2026 +3
.... and have lots of kids. I would probably adopt a lot of kids as well, maybe Build a school for Gifted Youngsters, but accept anybody.
3
Known_Appointment218 Apr 3, 2026 +3
Doing that already. Just without the $500M.
3
EhJPea Apr 2, 2026 +8
Ya I'd chill.
8
BeamHunter_Dan Apr 3, 2026 +2
This is the exact right answer. I'd just buy 1,000 acres of deep woods, build a cozy cabin, and spend the rest of my days testing gear, camping and stargazing. Phone permanently on 'Do Not Disturb'. Zero stress.
2
Upbeat-Dish7299 Apr 2, 2026 +139
Take a nap
139
snownative86 Apr 3, 2026 +14
I haven't taken a nap in many years. I might crash out and take an actual afternoon nap in my hammock in the backyard. Then, I'd walk around and look at my flowers, then call the landlord, offer cash for the house and adu, and relax. Might even splurge and go get fancy tacos for dinner.
14
Dildo-Gankings Apr 2, 2026 +706

33

I'd put half into low-risk mutual funds, and bring the other half to my cousin, Asadullah, who works in securities--

Honestly I would do the math on how much I would need to live very comfortably the rest of my life and then use it for philanthropy
191
PowermanFriendship Apr 3, 2026 +27
I would do this too. I'd pay off everything I owe quietly, stay in my same house, set my kids up with $10 mil funds, put a big chunk ($50-100 mil) in high-yield savings, and give the rest away. If family was in financial trouble, I'd help them as needed, never divulging my true worth. Money turns people into monsters. All I need is enough to get by, have fun, and not be too stressed out. Chasing after more never appealed to me.
27
throwawaymyfeels69 Apr 2, 2026 +18
I would do the same. Make sure myself and families are good to go then help others in different ways.
18
FormalOperational Apr 3, 2026 +7
Your first move should be establishing a single-family office, which is essentially a private company whose only customer is you. The SFO's job would be to manage your personal affairs and build a dynasty trust, insulating your assets from future lawsuits, divorces, and creditors and ensuring your heirs are taken care of without being able to blow it all. These trusts are the reason Gilded Age wealth still exists today. For philanthropy, you’d also want to launch a private foundation to create a perpetual endowment (think of it like the multibillion-dollar funds that power the Hershey School). By moving capital here, you offset huge tax hits and create a self-sustaining pot of money that never dies. You can even use program-related investments to back entrepreneurs or initiatives that match your values. It’s a dual-purpose tool: it provides extreme tax mitigation and family employment, while serving as a training ground where your heirs learn the ropes of institutional investing through a defined mission-driven lens. The dynasty trust holds your lifestyle assets (investment portfolio, real estate, businesses), while the foundation manages your philanthropic legacy.

Step 1. Two chicks at the same time. (Obligatory) Step 2. Comfortable home with 50 years of insurance and taxes covered. Step 3. Begin multiple non profit companies focused on orphans, animals, and the environment.
3
BureauOfSabotage Apr 3, 2026 +3
Same. A nice home where I want to be and one near/for my parents. Make sure my siblings are reasonably set for a couple generations. One bitchin sailboat. Enough for me to not worry about some simple travel whims. The rest goes to good causes. I could easily get away with giving 90% of this sum and still fulfilling my wildest dreams.
3
HunterShotBear Apr 3, 2026 +2
My absolute dream is to start a disaster relief company. Completely non profit. Just travel around the USA helping people hit by hurricanes, or floods, or snow storms where they aren’t prepared for them. Just have a bunch of equipment moved around to clear roads, knock down dangerous structures, damn rivers, etc. Just help people and expect nothing in return. But only places where average people need help.

probably would pay off my entire family’s debt and donate like 100m and live stress free
20
PresenceBusiness4726 Apr 2, 2026 +147
Invest $50 mil, take $50 mil and put it in a savings account, then pay off all family debts (my and my fiancée's families) and give them $1 mil each for direct related family members. From there, I'd stick the remaining in another savings account and let it accrue interest, then live off the interest, and never work again.

11
Coffeekittenz Apr 2, 2026 +22
You would have a lifetime of wealth with 50 mil. I agree with everything you said except I would make parks in cities for kids to enjoy and do something more for the kids in general. Scholarships, free after school activities in impoverished or high crime areas, a million other things for the people who need it the most i guess.
22
roodammy44 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Yeah, you could do so much good in the world with that kind of money. It’s so boring to see people let it rot and slowly make things harder for the average person because investments need returns, and returns come from the sort of shit private equity does. There should be really high taxes to prevent this sort of thing over $50m.
6
UsidoreTheLightBlue Apr 3, 2026 +2
Yeah I was down with “invest $50m and put $50m in savings” but the rest is just a fuzzy way to say “im putting $480m into savings and investing.” In the end it’s their scenario so oh well, but my l****** dream after paying off all my family shit and stashing enough away for everyone has always been to work to combat homelessness. I used to fantasize about opening good quality clean shelters in my area so people could see them and go “there’s a mother f***** who made it from pure luck and decided to help people.” I also used to fantasize about buying the old derelict mall and turning it into a paintball or lazertag arena like you’re in an action movie. So no not all of my l****** fantasies were altruistic.
2
GrooveDigger47 Apr 2, 2026 +8
you have 500 million. you dont need to do any of this. 😭
8
VinylHighway Apr 2, 2026 +15
You don't put that much money in a savings account that's idiotic. Also the standard FDIC insurance amount for bank deposits is $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, for each account ownership category. This coverage protects funds in checking, savings, money market deposit accounts, and CDs. Amounts exceeding $250,000 in a single category at one bank are generally not insured.
15
Duncan_PhD Apr 3, 2026 +7
This is a hypothetical, no need to get down in the details like that.
7
VinylHighway Apr 3, 2026 +5
Sure. No super rich person is keeping that much cash in a savings account though they would get a vastly higher return with other safe investments. Also rich people have access to investments us normals do not ;)
5
Ill-Lie5085 Apr 2, 2026 +36
take care of abused women and children. I lived it being broke and that would be the first thing I would do

Buy myself property, invest, and donate some to animal shelters.
20
djinniofthelamp Apr 2, 2026 +22
I would set up a variety of trusts ans organizations to provide free school meals to as many children as I could cover. Then I would slowly build a network of secur3 housing to make available to spouses and children trying to escape domestic violence. The idea is that the money made off this money in stable investments would fund these programs indefinitely.

Purchase a home in Melbourne, AUS, one in Kyoto. Keep my home in the US. Found a nonprofit philanthropy group and get office space in all three countries. Work on that for the rest of forever. I'd work 30 hours a week tops. And uh yeah you use the capital to make income using various investment vehicles, and use that money to fund philanthropic stuff. Hire a bunch of brilliant people to do good things for the world and pay them well to do it. Reserve like 20 mil for myself so I can live a lavish lifestyle on the interest.
4
Careful-Income9589 Apr 2, 2026 +4
i’d pay the meal accounts for my local school k-12 then see if i could find a way to set up a trust to pay for breakfast/lunch for all the students. i’d buy up some single family homes and start a program where single moms or struggling family’s could live for a couple years while they got on their feet (i would also try to provide job training, child care, financial literacy to these families), buy public land to be turned into parks, donate to or open a public library, try and find a way to establish an after school and/or summer program for school age kids. and most importantly find someone i can trust to help me achieve all this so i can sit back and relax.
4
SnooAdvice5917 Apr 3, 2026 +3
I would make sure that the nearest 20 schools that are nearest to me would make sure all kids had free lunches year round for at least the next 50 years. I was on reduced lunches and still couldn’t afford it at times. I wouldn’t want a kid anywhere near me have to experience a food tray get taken out of his hand like I did.

Set aside $75 million to make a movie. And, of course, I'd need to spend at least that for my marketing budget. After I've thrown all that money into a black hole I'd probably just build a homestead somewhere and live off the interest of what's left. But, yeah, it would be cool to make a real movie.
4

2
OneCar2359 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Invest 495,000,000 in education, combating famine and extreme hunger by building infrastructure in impoverished areas, and scientific research and development of technologies which promote those causes. Then I would live a very comfortable life on the remaining million dollars. There is really no reason for anyone to be that wealthy aside from greed. People that selfishly hoard that much wealth deserve a special place in hell.

Hire an investment firm, let my husband retire, build or buy a compound for my family, and bless my community. With an emphasis on children and underprivileged minority groups. My new job would be local philanthropist. I would use the investment firm to help me create education grants, affordable housing projects, and free medical programs for young children to get the treatment they need. I like the idea of tiny house communities for the elderly and young adults aging out of foster care and orphanages. But I would house the groups together. I think both groups have a lot to offer each other. As for education grants. I want to sponsor extracurricular activities and after school programs. I would work with local PTAs to get to the real needs of the students. If there's room in the budget, I would love to throw a handful of money annually to woman's health. Mental health, reproductive health, and victims of abuse. There's already a lot of great groups in my area. I would give money to them. I've already talked about this with my husband. We dream about what we'd do if we won the l******. Tho we only buy tickets if its near a billion, these days. But this is a combination of what we both want to do.

Hire a financial advisor, find and or build my dream house, and whatever the hell I want. First on the "whatever the hell I want" list would be travel to visit friends both in and out of the country.

Payoff all debts, buy a ranch in the mountains, and put the rest in the hands of a capable and trustworthy financial planner. Then quietly live off the interest. Maybe get involved in local politics or give back to the community in some way to fill my time.

The other night I dreamed that I did some small ethical thing and someone gave me a check for $250 million. I realized that all the things that I need, paying off all my debt, being able to put my kids through college, would only be a very tiny fraction of it. And then I started thinking about how everybody I knew was about to be better off… And then I woke up. It was so real and I was so sad that even looking at this question makes me feel bummed out.

Travel the world. I’ve always wanted to visit the terrace where Michael Jackson’s final resting place is I’d even go to King of Popcorn I’d fly there near his birthday because there’s loads of fans, music, gifts for him. It’s practically a party.
