Like what could they have done to stop him? Like if he just decided to end it all in front of millions of viewers they couldn’t do anything but cut the cameras. The world would’ve been throw into chaos. Would be very interesting to say the least. The most they could do is attempt to save him. I wonder if anyone else thought about this before.
There would've been signs and the producers wouldve found a way to have someone talk him down.

Yeah I feel like at the first sign of depression they'd have been spiking his Mococoa drink with Prozac.

I love Truman show questions though like what if he was racist? Or an alcoholic?

I always wondered why they introduced the concept of airplanes to him. They could have kept a lot of technology and even the concept of Earth—and other countries—from him. Sail boats didn't have to be a thing that was invented. There was no reason to give him incentive and inspiration to go anywhere. Also, no need to cast any attractive actors at all, except for his wife.
It's a movie that doesn't work on logical levels lol. But I love it.

It was probably because they wanted him to live in a "real" world. The more you changed, the more artificial it would feel to people.

That would have made the movie too dark but that’s how it would realistically end.

I can see a novel ending like this...before it would get sanitized for an adaptation

That's the sad reality. They are completely fine in exploiting him like an unpaid actor or at minimum a human being. They would be like ''that sucks'' what's for breakfast?

Wouldn't it technically be a spin-off? ...or a reboot?

that’s a wild thought, fr. it's kinda crazy how the show was all about control, but in that scenario, they’d lose it completely.

You're forgetting how plot armor operates. The movie is called The Truman Show. If Truman DIES, there's not only no show, but no movie either!
Therefore, only an unsuccessful attempt could be possible.
Remember, when he quits ... the movie ends.

Christof pretty much tried to kill him by making the ocean rough enough to sink the boat, which I think was to establish that it's not about Truman at all. Rather, it's all about the show. Truman was totally expendable. Should the show have required him to die, they likely had a contingency.

What if he were a complete sociopath or a serial killer, what if he had a major learning disability, what if he had childhood leukemia, what if he became paraplegic in a skateboarding accident, what if he was a flat earther, what if he was severely autistic, what if he only wanted to eat chicken tenders and nothing else, what if he was obsessed with golf, what if he was transgender, what if he only wore cowboy clothes?
Well it would have been an entirely different movie huh.
You can also do this fun exercise with literally any movie or tv show or any form of artistic expression ever for eternity. Cool!

What if James Bond died in the cold open...
Oh wait... They did that sort of.
So many action movies would be non-starters if any of them were remotely realistic. Like the second Baby In Baby Driver attempts that little maneuver in the alley at the beginning of the game, he definitely crashes and they all get arrested and the movie ends.
