Alcoholism. Not an exaggeration to say that every single adult on my dad's side of the family is an alcoholic. Meanwhile, I've never had a drop and never will.

Same here - my dad is an alcoholic and every aunt/uncle I have (on both sides) are alcoholics. I've seen way too many times how they get and I never want to be like that. Ever.

breaking the cycle of toxic communication in my family was huge for me. instead of yelling during arguments, i learned to talk things out calmly and it’s made a world of difference.

Hell yeah, same. There is nothing about these genes worth passing forward.

They survived for over a billion years. Mind you that's one hell of a sampling bias.

Oh I like my genes, they do me a lot of favors, I just don't want to force them on a child who didn't ask to be born.

Drinking. My father's dad was an alcohol then he was and thankfully I broke that generational habit and I don't even like the taste of alcohol at all

Familial child sex abuse.
My mother got us away from those people and got us to another state. It kept us safe from family... But sex abuse still happened.
My daughter has never been in daycare or babysat. Three occasions she was watched by my mother for bad medical emergencies. She's 18 now. Not a victim of child sex abuse by anyone.

This is literally why I only had one child, didn’t want to test that and damage another child.

I think thats becoming rare now...people having kids in their mid-late 30s now, amongst core/young Millennials while late 20s for older Gen Zs

Not telling my family I love them.
Never once heard it from my father.
I say it so much to my kids they are sick of hearing it.

I talk to my kids and don’t act mad at them. I explain the reason if I get upset or frustrated.

Alcoholism lol. I’m a social drinker, I enjoy it for a moment and that’s it. I don’t go out much anyway since I love being at home, so it’s not something I do often
