What's a Fan Theory about a Movie you 100% believe?

Posted by Swing-Full

Basically the title, just any Fan Theory you personally believe about any movie I think the whole "Darth Jar Jar Binks" was real, in that he was supposed to be in what became Christopher Lee's role. He'd have a fully CGI fight with Yoda at the end of AOTC (showcasing Lucas Film's technology) and then be beheaded at the start of ROTS. It's just that Merch Sales for Jar Jar weren't as high as LucasFilm wanted, combined with the fan backlash, they moved away from it. How about you guys? What's a Fan Theory about a movie you personally believe?

Never heard this one afore. Details?

Wheredoesthetoastgo2 Apr 2, 2026 +1
The quick details are, it's a way to explain how characters change, how Gotham changes, the over all tonal shift, that sort of thing.

Snowpiercer is a sequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Ooooh I’d love to know more about this one.

That The Rock is a secret James Bond movie.

rgregan Apr 2, 2026 +10
I wouldn't say I believe this one, but it is a lot of fun. It's also fun to figure out what the other actors' The Rock is. I like Matador for Brosnan (that Bond went private sector) and Hot Fuzz for Dalton (burned, placed in a small town, went a little crazy)

Event Horizon is a prequel for Warhammer 40k

And exists in the same shared universe as Alien and Blade Runner.

As does the Kurt Russel's cult B movie "Soldier" as his character is listed as a veteran of the battles at Tan Hauser Gate and The shoulder of Orion, plus he's noted as proficient in handling the M41A Pulse Rifle and USMC Smartgun.

The guy who came up with Darth Jar Jar literally came out and said he was just f****** around. George Lucas dismissed it with visible disgust as well. Theres theories. Then theres straight delusion.
7
Swing-Full Apr 2, 2026 -4
The evidence is super compelling though

Its not. Its literal grasping at straws and seeing what you you want to see aka delusion.

The key part of this theory is that the alternative is an absolutely ridiculous shift from the entire rest of the movie

I dont know about the Christopher Lee stuff, but the argument Jar Jar was intended to be a lovable character revealed to be the true villain (but was abandoned when Jar Jar wasnt loved) has been pretty convincing.

My personal fan theory (personal because it seems no-one else ever talks about this film) is that Sergeant Gerry Boyle, the protagonist of John Michael McDonagh's 2011 masterpiece *The Guard*, is an actual Fae (that is, a supernatural "fairy" person, a member of the *aos sí*). He's larger-than-life, charismatic yet confrontational, hard-living (drinking, f******, drug-taking, fighting), a middle-aged fat bloke and an olympic-standard open-water swimmer. He jokes that he has psychic abilities "I have the gift". He's intelligent, insightful, and compassionate, but he plays like he's a rural, racist oaf. He has a mother, with whom is is clearly very close, but there's no mention of his father. So my theory is that he's a "changeling", or at least a Fae baby begotten by his mother and some supernatural father. Of course, the heroes of most movies are unreasonably lucky, impossibly attractive, and polytalented marysues. But I think Boyle is actually supernatural.

Great movie that doesn't get the love it deserves. Absolutely hilarious.

TangeloRough9202 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Signs isn't about aliens, it's about the return of evil forces or demons, from hell. Defeated by faith and 'holy' water.
2
dogsonbubnutt Apr 2, 2026 +3
none of them. im not saying they aren't fun. im just saying they're universally stupid. > I think the whole "Darth Jar Jar Binks" was real, in that he was supposed to be in what became Christopher Lee's role. He'd have a fully CGI fight with Yoda at the end of AOTC (showcasing Lucas Film's technology) and then be beheaded at the start of ROTS. It's just that Merch Sales for Jar Jar weren't as high as LucasFilm wanted, combined with the fan backlash, they moved away from it.  i genuinely hope you don't actually believe this

Theres some that at least provide some actual evidence. Jar Jar is just f****** dumb and ive deep dived into it. The original creator of the theory even said he was f****** around.

I remember thinking the Film Theory video on that was brilliant! Until he mentions that they set up speakers in the woods, because he is a sound guy. What?
1
FanofBobRooney Apr 2, 2026 +3
The film “The Lighthouse” takes place in Robert Pattinson’s character’s mind except for the final shot. He’s just hallucinating the entire thing as he lays dying after being shipwrecked.
3
Malkyre Apr 2, 2026 +2
It's actually way more complex than that. [Novum](https://youtu.be/5V4l_AoOFBU?si=pOmgxfZ6q0_uL8v6) breaks it down.

Hard Eight is a sequel to Midnight Run
2
Aggressive-Brief2179 Apr 2, 2026 +3
Never heard this one before but now im curious as hell about teh connection. Both have that whole mentor/protege dynamic going on and PTA definitely knows his film history well enough to pull something like that off
3
RunAlert8361 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Well both movies have Philip baker hall playing a character called Sidney. That’s the only evidence I have
4
sydonesia Apr 2, 2026 +2
I'm not even joking but I may have been one of the ones to start that theory 25 years ago (my name is a Hard Eight reference.)
2
RunAlert8361 Apr 2, 2026 +1
I’m pretty sure the name in hard eight is a fun reference to midnight run which is one of pta’s favourite movies. But it’s a cool theory tho
1
RunAlert8361 Apr 2, 2026 +1
It is so niche, many people never even realised it😂
1
-KFBR392 Apr 2, 2026
Damn, now I need to rewatch both movies. So the old guy, Sidney, is supposed to be DeNiro?
0
RunAlert8361 Apr 2, 2026 +3
In midnight run Philip baker hall plays a minor role as a guy named Sidney

1

A bad theory that tries to tied a bunch of unrelated movies together by ignoring glaring issues and filing the massive gaps with fan fiction.

Wheredoesthetoastgo2 Apr 2, 2026 +1
Yeah, but...! The Pizza Planet truck!/s
1
eyeguy21 Apr 2, 2026 +2
In basic form, all the Pixar movies are just sequels and prequels to each other. That said it’s about a 20minute or 50 minute YouTube rabbit hole depending how detailed you want to go

I am hard convinced that Child's was the Thing at the end. And I think Ricky was helping with the killings in Sleepaway Camp. Angie didn't know where Mozart's knife was.
3
FastBoss3619 Apr 2, 2026 +3
I always thought the theory that Inception is actually about filmmaking pretty convincing.
3
Wheredoesthetoastgo2 Apr 2, 2026
Is that the one that says they set up speaker equipment into the woods?
0
FastBoss3619 Apr 2, 2026 +1
Hmm not sure about the woods part but here's an article on cracked.com that discuss it. Its number 3. https://www.cracked.com/article_20497_5-great-movies-with-mind-blowing-symbolism-you-didnt-notice.html

Ah I see...haha yeah I heard of that theory too, it's very convincing!
1
Upbeat_Tension_8077 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Someone mentioned that Cars might be set after an apocalypse that killed off the human race, and considering the idea that all Pixar films are in the same universe, with WALL-E also tied in, I don't think it's a far fetched theory.

This is my theory. The whole talk show and ending of Joker was all a fantasy. It all happened in his mind. He was an unreliable narrator the whole time, making up his relationship and stuff. I think that ending was his dreams.

Tom Cruise is stuck in the afterlife in Vanilla Sky for eternity and there is no escape back to the real world. His jumping off the building takes him back to the beginning of the movie where he repeats the same process (and has for the past 150 years.) He thinks he has free will but signed it away to Life Extension.
1
reddfawks Apr 2, 2026
That Palpatine was draining Padme’s life-force to complete Vader. Just because “she died because she lost the will to live.” feels kinda dumb. Also for him to really twist the knife that her death is Anakin’s fault.

In The Dirk Diggler Story, a short film later remade as Boogie Nights, Dirk does gay p*** when he's low on money. At the end of the credits to Boogie Nights there is [some weird audio of two gay men having sex, or about to](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_80GcAaQVbU). I think there was a gay subplot planned, or possibly filmed, and Mark Wahlberg wouldn't do it.

The stupid movie "The Big Lebowski" is actually a time-travel movie, and The Cowboy and we the audience are the tourists into the 1990s. When you look at it from that perspective it gets stranger.
