How much they hate their spouse
2088
Meshugugget Mar 29, 2026 +725
Or “winning” an argument with their partner. Why would you want to “win”? You are supposed to be on the same team!

Good point

In your experience, does this feel like a generational thing? Obviously not across the board, but I used to work in a larger office and had some older coworkers who would do this constantly. I’m now in a smaller setting that skews millennial and gen-z, and all the spouse talk is either positive or humorous

Hooda-Thunket Mar 29, 2026 +93
As a genXer, I’ve noticed this. I used to tell my kids how high school would be, how the other students would try to drag them down, be total dicks to each other for the heck of it, how someone they knew there would probably end up dead in a drunk-driving incident. I told them they could come to me and let me know about it and I’d do what I could in the face of an uncaring school administration. All three of them at one time or another came to me after graduation to let me know it wasn’t at all like that, that the other students were very supportive, that the school staff were on top of things, that bullying wasn’t an issue at all. And everyone they knew survived high school. This really was shocking to me, and was one of many reasons I feel greater hope for their generation than I do for mine or my parents. I have no idea how schools in this area turned things around so radically, but they did it, and I’m genuinely impressed about it.

flakeybutterbitch Mar 30, 2026 +16
That's so nice to hear. I do think overall schools are showing more supportive classmates and less bullying, but I also think it's school and area specific. I'm a therapist in Chicago and work mostly with teens. At least from my work, it always seem to be the private school kids who have the most issues with cliques and rumors. Some of them in honestly toxic environments. But most of my kids aren't struggling in this area, they're in therapy for other reasons or if it is school related it's from acaemdic stress not beause of peers. Just interesting to see things change

Or never taking a sick day. I don’t think that’s the brag you think it is.

Yeah, we all hate that guy, The one that comes in while sick and infects everyone. I've met some people like that, and they're all effing clueless.

ArticulateRhinoceros Mar 29, 2026 +72
Ugh that guy comes to my desk and tries to impress me with how tough he is by spreading his germs all over my space and never seems to clue into me backing away, actively spreading Lysol and wiping my area down when he leaves as an indication that I am not impressed. Same guy rides a motorcycle and tries to impress me with that. I have lost track of how many times I’ve told him my father was killed on a motorcycle and I hate the damn things. He still tries to regale me with his tales of the road at least once a week. He’s also very proud of how much he speeds, to boot. If cringe took human form, it’s name would be Ron.

When my Pop caught chicken pox from us kids and went to work and was “called on the carpet” and told he had to go home and not go back to work until he was pock-free. He also worked some vacations.

21 years of perfect attendance and got suspended for one sick day. the company told on itself with that one

Or never taking vacation time. Choosing a cubicle over this beautiful planet is honestly a crime.
173
LateNeverr1 Mar 29, 2026 +61
same with people bragging about working nonstop with no breaks, it just sounds like burnout waiting to happen rather than something to be proud of
61
ZebraEnvironmental92 Mar 29, 2026 +18
Yeah I never understood the point of that, companies don't give a$hit about you, the exact reason I went out and started working for myself.
18
Ginger_Bee Mar 29, 2026 +21
Some of us who work nonstop without breaks have bosses that won’t allow us to take PTO. For example: me. I’ve been asked 3 times to reschedule my time off due to various reasons. At this point, I’ve given up trying to ask and HR won’t listen. I also can’t find work in my line of work, so I stay.
21
ZebraEnvironmental92 Mar 29, 2026 +15
It's really not.
15
powderpoff6 Mar 29, 2026 +162
My mother in law used to tally up the unpaid hours she put into her job every week and crow about it like a badge of honor. She saw it as being selfless and dedicated. I was so horrified.
162
icare890 Mar 29, 2026 +61
She was just setting her worth. Crazy she would devalue herself more than her employer did. Martyrdom does not pay off, there is no scorekeeper.
61
nelsonalgrencametome Mar 29, 2026 +26
Some of us learn that the hard way. The first few years of my career are a good example, I thought I was making a sacrifice for some sort of long-term gain but was really being exploited and burned out fast.
26
IntelligentCareer829 Mar 29, 2026 +43
The vast majority of the time people working long hours in corporate is often just due to inefficient working.
43
Senior_Werewolf_8202 Mar 29, 2026 +20
Also: if you wake up to pee at 4:30 am and glance at your email, you did not start your day at 4:30 am. Also if you opened your laptop to check email for 10 minutes on a flight, the whole flight didn’t count as work.
20
caviargarnish152 Mar 29, 2026 +43
This is the one. So over the glorification of being busy, as if it equates to being important.
43
phil_the_builder Mar 29, 2026 +17
That reminds me of the many accounts of people, who close to their death deeply regretted having worked so much. They missed seing their kids growing up, they where never there for their spouses, and when they left work they where replaced within a few weeks and forgotten within a few months.
17
Mesapunk87 Mar 29, 2026 +19
I mean... It IS a brag when you say you only work 5 hours a week and make more than people in their whole year/life even.
19
Flintly Mar 29, 2026 +6
I fell victim to this when I got my apprenticeship. 10 years wasted getting taken advantage of for shit pay. So glad I finally woke up and got the f*** out.

62
3-X-O Mar 29, 2026 +1063
That they're friends with someone who's disabled, of a different race, etc. It's not embarrassing to have friends who are, but it's embarrassing when you're trying to use that to make yourself seem better.
1063
Granny-ZRS103008 Mar 29, 2026 +236
As in “I have lots of black friends?”
236
ElegantCoach4066 Mar 29, 2026 +169
Or "How can you say I don't support women. I have a mother and a sister!"
169
Granny-ZRS103008 Mar 29, 2026 +46
Just because you have a mother and a sister means nothing! How do you treat them? Good point.
46
Pinkbunny432 Mar 29, 2026 +59
So true. I had someone in another sub try to argue it’s ok that they say the r-slur casually with their friends because they volunteer with disabled kids.
59
Minky29 Mar 29, 2026 +59
You'd think that would make them less likely to use that slur
59
KorgiKingofOne Mar 29, 2026 +39
I have an old coworker who tried justifying her use of that word because “my brother has fetal alcohol syndrome so that’s just what we call him.” Classy. Casually throwing a slur in someone who is supposed to be your loved one’s face because of the failings of the parent is really gross.
39
QuadrilleQuadtriceps Mar 29, 2026 +29
Nothing like a mom always referencing her one gay best friend from 25 years ago.
29
aabum Mar 29, 2026 +10
From the perspective of someone who grew up during the 1970s, saying you had black friends was, for some people, to demonstrate that it is ok to have black friends. In some/many places there was still a social divide that needed to be overcome. Much the same as telling folks I had a gay relative and gay friends. Establishing that it's ok to associate with people who are different from us. As difficult it may be for some to understand this, especially if you grew up in a diverse community, it was and to an extent still is an issue that some people struggle with.

I've had more than one man brag to me that they've never changed a nappy (diaper) or fed their young children. Apparently it's point of pride for some men. I had one (a coworker) complain about how his missus was lazy because she didn't cook for him anymore and was threatening to leave her... they had twins less than a year before and she was doing ALL the work with the twins and all thw housework on top. I have two kids that I have raised solo and apparently he used me as an example of how women can do everything and still cook "her man" food. I put him straight and said I'd never cook or do anything for a man who thought that working outside the home and doing nothing else was being fair. Bear in mind, she also worked and was planning on returning when the kids were old enough. By the end of my lecture he was red faced and adamant that I was a "feminazi" trying to ruin his marriage. One he brought me into without my consent. She left him a few months later and he's never grasped why.
880
Ashes_and_Seeds Mar 29, 2026 +263
1. He was threatening to leave her for "being lazy" 2. But he also accused *you* of being a "feminazi" who was ruining his marriage (that he didn't even want to be in) 3. *She* left *him* and he had no idea why (couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that he already wanted to leave the marriage) F****** hell. I wish I could be as f****** dumb and oblivious as that guy.
263
Current_Thing2244 Mar 29, 2026 +91
He was an absolute bellend to be honest, I was so glad when he was transferred to another job site. The lecture I gave him felt so good though, I was being polite until that point for the sake of the work environment but I sure let rip when he tried to pull that c***. I just wish I could have reassured his now ex, poor woman was probably drowning and then he comes home and uses a strange woman to compare her to. It wouldn't surprise me if she thought he was cheating on her with me, and I honestly don't mind if she thought that and that was the final straw because she got free. I really hope she's living her best life now.
91
ThinkerBello Mar 29, 2026 +32
At least she just has the twins now, and not a whole extra man child who doesn't deserve her 😅
32
Spiralofourdiv Mar 29, 2026 +20
It does sound nice to be that stupid, huh? Sometimes I long for that level of blissful ignorance. The downside is those people often end up spending the final years of their lives very alone and very sad, without any idea as to why. Up until they have to face their mortality it seems like real smooth sailing though!
20
GozerDGozerian Mar 29, 2026 +9
>I wish I could be as f****** dumb and oblivious as that guy Do you though? It’s sounds f****** exhausting. There’s a reason these people are always so pissed off and scared.
9
Seldarin Mar 29, 2026 +91
I remember years ago having an argument with a guy I knew about that. "My dad never changed a diaper, and neither will I." Bro, your dad worked 84 hours a week on swing shift at a stinking-ass papermill to make sure his family never wanted for anything and his wife didn't have to work. You work 30 hours a week at Autozone. You're either gonna learn to do domestic tasks or end up divorced. He ended up divorced. Three times. He still works at Autozone. He turns 49 this year.
91
Current_Thing2244 Mar 29, 2026 +31
I bet he's also in denial about why he's divorced, three times divorced 😂
31
Seldarin Mar 29, 2026 +29
Last time I ran into him was about a decade ago, and he was throwing a fit about how much child support he has to pay. Yeah, I'm sure 50ish% of your $350 a week paycheck is gonna go real far split between 4 kids. Dude acted like those women were flying to Bali for spa days on the $8k a year he was paying split between two exes.
29
Current_Thing2244 Mar 29, 2026 +6
Oh that sort are all the same 🤣

Omg creepy little relevant fact: there are men out there (usually around the ages of 45-55) that brag about how they only refused to change their daughters’ diapers. I’ve met/heard of at least 3 men that have said that so far, & one said “I didn’t want her trying to ‘me too’ me” about his daughter that was born in the 80’s. F****** gross ass creeps.

Me cleaning out a spare room, moving and building furniture, and installing a car seat while pregnant with my son despite my (now) ex telling me to wait on building furniture so we could do it together but he never helped with it when he was home off work. And me doing the laundry in our hot garage in the middle of summer the day after coming home from the hospital despite having bleeding issues (later found out I had retained amniotic sac) 🫠
13
dogface47 Mar 29, 2026 +45
As a guy, the diaper thing absolutely rakes my nerves. F*** those guys. They'd sooner leave a kid sit there in their own excrement than be a f****** father and do parenting things.

Omg I can't imagine BRAGGING that I never learnt basic life skills, at least in the context of a Western culture where hiring cleaners costs a bomb. I assume it's a "I have a wife that does all the chores" thing, which makes it even *worse*!

vagina-lettucetomato Mar 29, 2026 +41
Such a red flag. There are ways to be honest without being “brutal.”
41
LittleNightBright Mar 29, 2026 +25
I worked with someone who was just a nightmare to be around. The mood always shifted when they walked in, and they'd say things like that. "I have no filter" "I'm just brutally honest" "that's just how I am, and other people need to figure that out when they work with me." That person didn't work there much longer because surprise surprise, they couldn't take direction either and refused to change their "personality" to make others feel supported and comfortable at work. That's not personality, that's a choice.

People brag that their parents physically abused them when growing up and “I turned out fine” (and then they state therefore it’s okay that they’re now abusing their own kids).
467
Various_Aardvark_263 Mar 29, 2026 +109
Idk how one ends up down that path, I’ll casually mention and accept that my parents started off abusive and I use that as a reason to.. treat little kids right even though I may never have any of my own-
109
ZeGermansAreHere Mar 29, 2026 +40
My dad used his parents as the anti way to raise children. He worked a lot, but when he was home, he was open, present, and he NEVER raised his hands to me and my brother. I'm 41 (he'll be 82 this year), and he's the person I reach out to any time I'm in trouble, trying to work through a conundrum, or simply having a really good day. He's my basis of how a man carries himself and treats the people around him and why I chose my ex-husband, who shared many of those characteristics, and is an incredible father and co-parent.
40
briarmolly Mar 29, 2026 +8

museumlad Mar 29, 2026 +40
(cw: csa/cocsa, drug addiction) One time my aunt said, "we spanked [my cousin] and he turned out fine!" The same cousin molested me and was, at the time, frequently AWOL due to addiction issues. He did not, in fact, turn out fine.
40
furiouspossum Mar 29, 2026 +76
I've yet to meet anyone who says they "turned out fine" who actually turned out fine.
76
kadyg Mar 29, 2026 +15
My husband did the “I was raised feral by somewhat-functional alcoholics* and I turned out fine” schtick at me recently and I was like “Did you really?” And after a few minutes of back-and-forth had to admit that, no, he really didn’t. *His folks got sober in his late teens and the family dynamic is now infinitely healthier but his younger years were *dramatic*.
15

11
Hollowbody57 Mar 29, 2026 +14
Or that the solution to all the world's problems is more abuse. You hear it all the time whenever there's a news story about kids getting arrested. "Those kids should have been smacked around a lot more growing up and this never would have happened."
14
ArticulateRhinoceros Mar 29, 2026 +21
Easiest way to shut that down is to look them in the eye and say, “But, you didn’t turn out fine, you turned into a child abuser.”
21
djfishfingers Mar 29, 2026 +190
If a man tells you he made his girl cum X amount of times last night, he is almost assuredly making shit up. People confident in their sex life don't generally need to tell other people about it.
190
WoodsWalker43 Mar 29, 2026 +47
A man should never brag about sexual performance. The only one he needs to impress is his partner. And no amount of his bragging will ever be as effective as hers.
47
Gonzostewie Mar 30, 2026 +9
In college, I hooked up with a girl and a few days later her friends had me blushing, retelling me what she'd said about that night. I was speechless. Felt good tho.
9
LittleNightBright Mar 29, 2026 +45
I know!! Heard a man brag his girl cums around 20 times each time. All I could think was how sad it was that either she was lying to him and he has no clue, or he's making things up and has no idea how unrealistic the number he chose was. I didn't know how to respond and went with the 'it isn't worth arguing with a toddler' approach and just replied with that tone like "wow buddy, that's so cool."
45
tytomasked Mar 29, 2026 +29
I’m a woman who doesn’t have much trouble getting there, especially when my partner is doing the work, but 20?? Every time?? That sounds exhausting and probably painful

Few will ever know love like a guy in an economically stagnated small American town loves his giant gas guzzling lifted truck with higher monthly payments than his mortgage, that he's never used to drive further than his local Walmart

How much they don't like to read. Flouting ignorance
215
juhreen Mar 29, 2026 +36
I feel like for a lot of people, it's to hide their insecurity about reading comprehension. They know they cannot read quickly/well, so they try to cover their embarrassment with false pride to save face. It's easier to be like, "This activity is stupid, so I don't participate," than it is to say, "This activity is hard for me because I lack the skills, so I don't participate."

A man in a bar once bragged to me that he "doesn't take no for an answer". He had hassled my sister and I on and off the entire night after I turned down his offer of a shot and dropped that little sound bite after following me outside when we decided to leave.

Did you meet Dennis from always sunny? All jokes aside, that’s terrifying, and I’m sorry you encountered that guy.

I had a boss that I disliked. Then one day he bragged that he only sees his kids (who live with him) on Sundays. Lost all respect for him immediately.
37
End337 Mar 29, 2026 +285
I mean... pretty much anything. Bragging is embarrassing by default.
285
Elegant_Queen-58 Mar 29, 2026 +70
True. If you have to announce it, maybe it’s not as impressive as you think.
70
NoFoolLikeAnAuldFool Mar 29, 2026 +77
Unless you’re openly like “I NEED TO BRAG” Like yes, pop off about what you’re excited and proud of! Here to pump you up. Just own it and be honest about it
77
ViolaNguyen Mar 29, 2026 +24
Yeah, you just won the big golf tournament you'd been preparing for, or whatever, go ahead and brag! Have fun with it. The difference there is that you're celebrating an accomplishment, not trying to put yourself above other people.
24
ZnarfGnirpslla Mar 29, 2026 +86
Being ignorant. "I don't even know where your country is bro!" "We don't care about your opinions!" "I don't even know about foreign politics, why do you care so much about ours?!"

Not knowing how to cook
78
saturday_sun4 Mar 29, 2026 +6
People *brag* about this? How come? I'm only just learning to cook as an adult, and man, I wish I'd learnt sooner because at some point (unless you actually have disabilities that make it hard for you), it just becomes embarrassing haha. I have no idea why anyone would think it's some kind of flex to be unable to cook.
6
1thruZero Mar 29, 2026 +6
I did this when i was young! I bragged about not knowing how to cook because I'd had annoying family members tell me my whole life that if i didn't learn to cook then no one would ever love or want me and that cooking was one of the few things women actually have to offer men. Like just the most extreme, stupid, sexist c*** you can think of. So until i was like 26, i refused to learn how to cook. I had an extended stint at home though and soon learned how fun it is to cook from scratch, so I did learn eventually. Granny just doesn't know.

PuppySnuggleTime Mar 29, 2026 +26
It’s really f****** embarrassing when men brag about all the sneaky things they do to score with women. Because it is an advertisement of their character. And it’s not a good character. Even more embarrassing as the friends who laugh along instead of calling them out on their bullshit.
26
alwaysboopthesnoot Mar 29, 2026 +73
How quiet, disciplined, and obedient that their employees/family/spouse or children are. It screams narrow mindedness, backwards thinking, abuse and cruelty and makes the person bragging about it look like the pathetic, selfish,  immature idiots they are.
73
dryroast Mar 29, 2026 +10
When I hear something has 100% support in some area with little debate I always think... What were the reprecussions for speaking against it?

Not sure who brags about this, usually it's trying to find someone who can relate and see if they have any tips. As an insomniac myself, it truly is horrible
56
thetannerainsley Mar 29, 2026 +24
It's usually a pissing contest with coworkers, oh man I'm so tired I only slept 5 hours last night.... Oh your tired I only slept 4 hours and I feel fine.
24
Mr_Rekshun Mar 29, 2026 +6
I would not wish insomnia on anyone. It is a living hell.
6
Cynthevla Mar 29, 2026 +16
Yes this, such a weird flex and I hear it all the time. And I am someone who needs my 9 hours of sleep to function a little bit.  How the hell do people do things with just 4 hours of sleep?  And more importantly, what do people do with those extra hours, cause 9/10 it isn’t something productive.  Please people, scrolling your phone at 2 am isn’t a flex, please sleep, it’s way more important for you than most people think.

Expensive possessions. If owning something expensive makes you feel happy I'm all for t do what makes you happy. Many feel the need to go out of your way to be like " oh dont you just love my new Cartier watch?" That's cringe to me

Cynthevla Mar 29, 2026 +16
“This is who I am so deal with it”. No, bye! I love to hear how much people grow, but I also understand that teenagers didn’t have the time yet to get some growth in there.  The older someone gets, the more cringe the first sentence gets.

15
shallowHalliburton Mar 29, 2026 +13
I read at work all the time and I often hear how they haven't read a book since high school. Why would anyone say that out loud? You don't have to like reading, but don't try to make it sound like a quirk. You don't see me interrupt a conversation to talk about how much I don't enjoy something.
13

47
ChadCoolman Mar 29, 2026 +11
I have a couple of really good friends whose partners are friends. All they do is talk about their mental health issues, their trauma, and all the medications they take. I legitimately can't remember a time I've heard them talk about anything else. Sometimes I think I'd rather have my teeth drilled without novacaine than sit in the same room as them.

How completely ignorant they are about technology. Listen up, people: if you bragged about not being able to drive a car, no one would consider that to be a badge of honor. Computers have been as much a part of the household as refrigerators for 30+ years now. Get with the program.
