What's something that was considered peak luxury in the late 90's/early 2000's that would be considered the complete opposite now?

Stay strong, with streaming going the way it's going I regret not having made my own collection. I like to watch things over and over so dvds work for me. You pay once and it's yours forever to enjoy. I'm considering switching to hardcopy media.

Having a super thick plasma TV used to scream luxury, now it just looks bulky and outdated.

And moving them is a pain. You’re not supposed to tilt them at all

A fully stocked DVD shelf — back then: peak luxury. Now: a physical monument to buffering anxiety.

Custom Ringtones. Paying $4.99 for a 10-second, high-pitched MIDI version of "In Da Club" just to let the whole bus know you were a person of culture. Now, if my phone isn't on silent 100% of the time, I feel like a social pariah. A phone actually ringing in 2026 is basically a jump scare.

Me and a mate were talking about something we saw on TV. The limos make people look like they're trying too hard to look rich. Although we were told by our parents it was cool at the time.

There were a few points in my young life where I rode a limo as a kid, and it was fun as hell. Born 1986. I don't drink anymore, but when I did we'd rent limos from time to time too. It was cheaper than multiple taxis multiple times a night. Also fun as hell.

Being overweight used to be a sign of wealth. Maybe not in the 90s, but back then.
