“If she only had longer weird looking eyelashes, she’d be more attractive” said no guy EVER.

AccomplishedLeave506 Apr 3, 2026 +10
I was doing to mention eyelashes as well. The amount of time my wife spends doing things to her eyelashes, and then talking about what she did to her eyelashes. I'm vaguely aware that she does indeed have eyelashes. They're probably still there.

Deep-Assignment4124 Apr 3, 2026 +1
For whatever reason though, the act of putting on mascara, can be really s***.

enragedsquirrels Apr 3, 2026 +1
Tbf, I don’t think a lot of women do it for men. I will say that as a queer woman, I do find them off-putting. 😬
1
Opening_Molasses_932 Apr 3, 2026 +51
Absolutely nails. Most men don't even notice it.

sliever48 Apr 3, 2026 +27
I definitely notice them if they're excessively long. It is a horrible sight. How do they say to day activities? Open doors? Clean dishes? Wipe their backside? Shudder

I pulled up behind two women in a convertible at the exit to a parking garage. They were able to push their credit card in to the reader to pay, but both of them had nails too long to allow proper finger clamping pressure to pull it out. After watching them struggle for a bit I asked if they needed help. Got out and got it for them. Absolutely ridiculous
5
Mountain_Sky_7867 Apr 3, 2026 +3
I had to do this. A woman asked me to retrieve her credit card from a downtown parking meter. Then I wondered how much poo was on that card from her excessively long nails. Long eye lashes are also in the unnecessary-turnoff category too.
3
Opening_Molasses_932 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Yeah for sure ! We only notice it when it goes too far.
2
ReaverRogue Apr 3, 2026 +7
Nah, when my wife’s done her nails I take notice. It looks nice and she evidently cares about them.
7
Acceptable-Gur-4513 Apr 3, 2026 +3
I notice bright colours or shiny things. I don't necessarily like them but I DO notice.
3
treesarethebeesknees Apr 3, 2026 +2
Yup - I found out my BIL apparently “makes” his wife get her nails done and was shocked he cared about that.
2
Affectionate_Bug8166 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Makes his wife?
1
treesarethebeesknees Apr 3, 2026 +1
Yea, I put it in quotes bc that was what I was told - never really dug into it - we aren’t that close, so “makes” is hopefully hyperbole. My point more was that this is very important to him and I haven’t heard of many men caring about this.
1
Longjumping-Yam-2639 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Agree !!!!!
1
Opening_Molasses_932 Apr 3, 2026 +6
The only time we care about it is when women have extremely long nails. And we find it weird.
6
ChipmunkCooties Apr 3, 2026
Nah bro I wild go further I hate it when chicks have those long fake nails 🤮🤮

There are things women do for their appearance and they say they do it for men but to me it seems more like they’re doing it to avoid judgement from other women.
42
hlouise94 Apr 3, 2026 +12
i think in general women often dress to impress other women… maybe indirectly to get male attention (by looking ‘better’ than other women).. it’s a weird thought tbh. I never dress to impress women but i do dress to match women if that makes sense. depending on how they dress for a certain occasion i really like to dress in a similar way. but that’s more of an urge to blend in rather than to impress lmao
12
CathairNowhere Apr 3, 2026
It's just how we establish dominance, a man being involved in the equation is almost irrelevant
0
hlouise94 Apr 3, 2026 +4
but not fully- because *why* would you need to establish dominance? you know why the need for dominance arises in nature, right? 😉 btw i might be an odd one out but i never feel the need to establish dominance .. i’d much rather level with other women and enjoy being equal
4
redditsaidfreddit Apr 3, 2026 +2
Dominance among female apes is definitely a thing. The rewards of pack status are less about mating choices and more about access to food and protection, but the competition is no less fierce.
2
NobodyButMyself357 Apr 3, 2026 +2
I love putting on makeup and doing my hair and as a woman I’m telling you, it’s 100% for myself. I love when I look better than I do most days especially because I’m not confident about my appearance, so when I put makeup I keep looking at my self in the mirror and it makes me happy. You might not get it but most women don’t judge each other by appearance, even if they do they never say it to each other. I’ve never seen a woman whom I thought was unattractive (maybe except for myself) women don’t expect other women to look good. We just like to look nice for ourselves.
2
flatulexcelent Apr 3, 2026 +1
Makes perfect sense. Im a man and I dont want to look like a grub. Its not for the purpose of "picking up", I just want to be tidy
1
Noughmad Apr 3, 2026 +1
Both genders do this. They get nails done, and expensive shoes, and a purse that has to match their shoes. We buy cars, watches, or cool T-shirts. None of this impresses the opposite gender. However, it gets you the respect of your own gender, which gives you social status, which in turn *does* impress the opposite gender.

Ashaeron Apr 3, 2026 +32
Common answer is makeup, but that's been proven untrue. They don't care for EXCESSIVE makeup, but the 'minimums' like low-level foundation and shading are proven to work. Gents, if you don't like this answer, ask someone you think has no makeup on if they're wearing any. It's more common than you think. My actual answer would be nails, beyond are they jagged? If you have 1inch+ talons that's actually personally unattractive but beyond that no fucks given.
32
Fresh-Temporary666 Apr 3, 2026 +7
Yeah with huge nails I just assume they struggle to wipe and have a smell to them if you went down on them.
7
KinkMountainMoney Apr 3, 2026 +2
I read an article a while back that opened my eyes to the whole makeup thing. It was one of those articles that shows p*** stars with and without their makeup. I came to the conclusion that a lot of appeal is the makeup. A lot of the ladies were cute or pretty without makeup but add the makeup and oh my god so hotttt. So I’d think there is a common routine or minimum of makeup that will almost certainly affect attraction levels. Long nails I feel are more for other women. As are a lot of clothes. Most guys I know would be just as happy with a girl in sweats and a hoodie as some complicated designer outfit we couldn’t afford, construct, or pronounce.
2
yeux_glauques Apr 3, 2026 +1
i think the cause and consequence is opposite here. the thing is, men watch so much p*** from such a young age that they are conditioned to perceive p*** star make-up as "hot" "s***" and a turn-on.
1
KinkMountainMoney Apr 3, 2026 +1
Ok, to build on what I think you’re saying here, the following experiment should be showing people who have not had such conditioning before and after photos of a variety of folks with and without makeup to see what effect the makeup might have? I’d assume beauty to be a culturally relevant quality, though. I do appreciate what you’re saying. Just not sure how to test the idea out.
1
Grouchy-Pea2514 Apr 3, 2026 +4
I dunno I have a fairly big group of friends and anytime we go out the lads always pick our the girl with the most make up, Botox etc whereas the girls always think the minimal make up girl is the prettiest
4
CaptainTruthSeeker Apr 3, 2026
I guess most of us guys on listnook are not the knuckle dragging, mouth-breathers you find in bars who are trying to bag what reality TV told them is attractive. Not saying some girls with work done aren’t attractive, it’s just not something I personally care about.
0
DandyLion97 Apr 3, 2026 +1
But then you look at listnook dwellers who b**** and moan about videogame women being even slightly more realistic like Alloy having peach fuzz of Tifa having a sports bra. And suddenly realize that yeah; most of them are lying even about liking the "no-makeup" makeup.
1
EpsteinEpstainTheory Apr 3, 2026 +1
I've seen family and friends with truly verifiably no makeup on and not just seemingly makeupless, a little bit definitely helps but what most women use is usually fairly excessive.
1
EarnestInnkeeper Apr 3, 2026 +1
I’m curious how that study got its data. Many men tend to lump women into one of two categories. “Pump and dump” material and marriage material. I imagine a lot more men prefer makeup for “Pump and dump” than for marriage material. While most women would prefer to be seen as the latter. But I doubt the study separated between these two categories. I’m also very curious to see what the makeup men found attractive in the study looked like. My guess is it was minimalist makeup applied with extreme skill. Not the average makeup the average woman is applying each morning. If I was a woman looking to attract a man I’d save myself time and money and skip the makeup. It’s not going to give a substantial edge even with perfect execution and moderate execution hurts you more than it helps. Similar time and money invested in growing and caring for long, healthy, natural hair would have a far greater impact I’m guessing. But as most women point out, they’re not actually doing it for men.

Nails. And there's a nail salon every three blocks in any city. Never has so much wealth been poured into nothing, from a man's point of view of course.
15
MaterialBobcat7389 Apr 3, 2026 -1
Yeah. I can't believe they waste all their money on these tacky bullsht. I even hate long nails since they trap a lot of dirt, germs and whatnots
-1
spacedock2285 Apr 3, 2026 +26
Shoes. Women wear the most painful and uncomfortable shoes imaginable in the name of beauty. We really don't care about them at all. No guy ever said "That girl is really hot but she's wearing sneakers."
26
Qedem Apr 3, 2026 +11
For the record, heels are not about the shoes, themselves, but shaping the rest of the body. They force your butt to be slightly flexed (and thus more rounded) and also increase your height, which makes it easier tk have a conversation with taller folks (usually men).
11
screenaholic Apr 3, 2026 +3
I f****** hate high heels. They just look so impractical. Even on fictional characters, high heels ruin what are otherwise great character designs.
3
spacedock2285 Apr 3, 2026
It's a pretty slight effect that guys barely notice. It's certainly not worth the price of wearing a medieval torture device all day.
0
fafarex Apr 3, 2026 +6
>It's a pretty slight effect that guys barely notice. it's really not, you don't notice it's the reason, but you notice the heel wearing woman more than if she did not wear them. >It's certainly not worth the price of wearing a medieval torture device all day. That I agree ( doubly so when going clubing...)
6
Birdo3129 Apr 3, 2026 +4
I wear high heels at work because of the sound they make. They’re announcing my presence and I feel like a powerful, badass b****. It’s a confidence boost. And they make me taller.
4
Aaryan77 Apr 3, 2026 +1
well, heels(uncomfortable and painful) are worn as they make the legs look longer, activate the calf muscles(which makes it look toned), pushes the chest forward and hips back for an upright stance(and yk what obvio). Basically it enhances perceived attractiveness and sophistication which appeals more to the audience. These attributes play a greater role than feeling uncomfortable/painful.

Glasses, sweatpants, ponytail is infinitely hotter to me than makeup and heels.
1
y4ky4k Apr 3, 2026 +7
There needs to be more answers from women here please. Rather than men shouting "makeup!"
7
TheoremaEgregium Apr 3, 2026 +7
But by the phrasing of the question it's something that women cannot answer. And men cannot answer either because they don't know what women think is attractive to men (no woman will ever admit to doing something to be attractive to men).
7
CranberryImaginary29 Apr 3, 2026 +1
There needs to be 2 subsections to this post - replies from women actually answering the question, then comments from men saying whether or not they care about it.
1
enragedsquirrels Apr 3, 2026 +1
a lot of these answers make me think “we don’t do that for men”
1
emotional-ohio Apr 3, 2026 +9

9
King0fthewasteland Apr 3, 2026 +5
that was not the question
5
enragedsquirrels Apr 3, 2026 +1
“What’s something women think *men care about*” We don’t take into consideration what men care about when engaging with these things.

Their careers
2
Economy-Pudding-6371 Apr 3, 2026 +3
Whatever physical feature they have that they're insecure about and think their man agrees is ugly. There are probably OTHER guys who'd be put off by it, since there's someone who likes or hates every kind of physical feature; but the man who's actually dating or married to the woman in question either obviously doesn't find whatever it is ugly or care about it or even notice it, or else he positively likes it.

ChipmunkCooties Apr 3, 2026 +4
Lip fillers, ladies you go over board with that stuff…. It’s a turn off if it’s excessive

If that one outfit makes her look fat/unflattering.
1
FrostyImplement9565 Apr 3, 2026 +2
This thread is full of things that men think women do for men and not to make themselves feel good in their own eyes. In my opinion - stretch marks, I mean some men obviously do care but the vast majority aren't phased by them from what I can tell.
2
ReaverRogue Apr 3, 2026 +2
Everybody can get them. F***, I’m a guy and I’ve got them from growing as a teenager. They’re nothing bad.

It's not gonna stop me but I really do prefer not to be picking your pubes out from the back of my throat. If you expect your partner to go down on you it's polite to at least trim it up. I wouldn't expect a woman to shove my balls in her mouth without shaving them.
4

Many of us prefer it fuzzy.

This is largely personal preference for men. I like smooth, thick bush, and everything in between. Variety is the spice of life.

Yep, waxing your cat is a big fat no go.. 😿
2
Dry_Captain_3795 Apr 3, 2026 +3

3

Hm... 🤔 Than better shave or wax.
1
hlouise94 Apr 3, 2026
tbh those guys need to man tf up
0
I_Play_Boardgames Apr 3, 2026 +3
No they don't. It's their personal choice if they want to go down on someone or not, wtf. The same way it's a woman's personal choice if she wants to go down on someone or not.
3
hlouise94 Apr 3, 2026 +2
damn reading this as i’m literally waiting in the line to get waxed.. 😅👏 i personally really like it though, makes me feel clean. but i can understand how some people would not like it.

Fingernails and makeup. They make a big fuss about supposed norms and standards which patriarchy forces upon them and which makes them spend so much money on this. But actually they do it only for other women, hardly any guy cares.

Weight, on both sides of the spectrum. I feel like on one side, being skinny is really overrated, and curvy/chubby girls don't realize how much of a hot commodity they are, and on the other side, really thin girls, or girls with small chests or butts think they're not s***, when in almost whatever configuration they are the epitome of s*** to a whole group of boys. Curves means something to grab and cuddle, petiteness means you're easy to pick up, that you can focus on finer details and cuteness, etc. Trying to change your body for an ideal rather than for functionality is always a waste. You're already someone's ideal as you are.
0
WabiSabi0912 Apr 3, 2026 +1
What men consider curvy is a specific body type. It’s wide hips, big b**** & a big butt, but it’s also a fairly flat stomach & thin arms.
1
InsaneBasti Apr 3, 2026 +1
No. Thats not curvy, thats bimbo. Usually surgery done like bbl. Men who like that are usually on the lower end of social skills.

Having a niche hobby that isn't traditionally "femenine" At least the girls IK seem to think liking gaming, or X hobby not commonly associated with girls will make them less attractive Having a personality won't make you less attractive, it makes you more Unique
