man this hit me hard when i became a dad and realized how many people just vanished when life got real. turns out most "friends" were just drinking buddies who couldnt handle me not being available 24/7 anymore

That’s a fact. I was one of the earlier of my “friends” to get married, and almost all of the ones I invited showed up. Of those that have now gotten married, I got invited to like 2 of their weddings.

Damn, I really needed to save money, huh? I thought that was just an exercise in high school but now I'm pretty much regretting it.

that it pays off to weed out people with the kind of mindset that ruins your potential, kills your confidence, and whatnot
edit: it's unhealthy to keep friendships that have poor ROI

i realized way too late that not everyone's opinions matter, and it's okay to ditch toxic people for your own sanity. like, why did i waste so much time trying to please everyone?

That society dictates we should live our lives one way but in reality, there's nothing wrong with finding what personally fits each individual.

That people can be cold. I mean the ones that said they loved you unconditionally can suddenly just walk away.

That the person I married wasn’t really who I thought he was. Had no clue that twenty years into the marriage I would find out everything and find out that the husband and the father I thought was so loving was actually living a double life. It’s a horrible, terrible feeling.

The value of telling the people you care for most how much you love them. Grew up in your typical asian household, no "I love you's" between family members, just gestures and implied stuff. Family member ended up passing away unexpectedly, live with deep regret not being able to tell them how much I appreciate them or that they we're very important to me.
