What’s something your parents taught you that you didn’t appreciate until you grew older?

Posted by JeanSimpwe

Growing up, there are things our parents or guardians used to say that felt annoying, unnecessary, or even outdated. But as I get older, I’m starting to realize some of those lessons actually made a lot of sense. For me, it was: “Save money, even if it’s small.” I didn’t take it seriously before, but now I see how powerful that habit is. What’s something they told you that only made sense later in life?

my dad used to make me sit down and handwrite thank you notes to anyone who gave me a gift or did something nice. hated it so much as a kid. now im in my 20s and realize that habit basically taught me to notice when people go out of their way for you instead of just taking it for granted. still dont handwrite notes but i always make sure to follow up and say thanks properly

Wha a lovely “lesson.” I’m older, probably close to your dad’s age. Thank you notes, aka bread & butters, were standard at our home when my kids were little. When they were smoll, I even bought full in the blank Thank you cards. Dear ____, Thank you ___ for the ___. I like it because ___. Sincerely, ___.
