As the title says - this would be an artist who you appreciate due to either their cultural impact, their personality/personalities, branding, etc. - but you're not super into their music?
For me, it's Pearl Jam. I have a general positive attitude towards them and saw them at their PJ20 shows. I really loved their energy and how well they treat their fanbase. I like a few of their songs. I want their new material to be successful - but I'm not going to buy a ticket to see them again any time soon.
I respect Frank Zappa for his activism, but not as into his music

I have a long time friend that I've tried getting into zappa. One day he asked "are any of his songs serious and not satire?" I said, "yes, most of the instrumental ones."
I grew up with it so it reminds me of childhood. The lyrics are dumb. The music sounds like a trippy carnival at times with his use of marimba. But if you get it, you get hooked. There are so many little inside jokes in the music.

I'll do my normal suggestions then. "Zomby woof" is one of my favorite guitar riffs. If memory serves, the Ikettes (like from Ike and Tina Turner) sang backup vocals on the studio version. It's definitely a "I'm a badass" song. Like WWE ring entrance music.

Everyone praises "the black page." It has a history with Steve vai and Terry bozio. I really like the version from "make a jazz noise here." Much more elegant than the NY version.

I’ve found a lot of people don’t like music with a sense of humor. Tried to get a drummer friend into Ween and he said “why would you waste your talent like that“.
Humor and silliness is as valid an expression as sadness, heartbreak, anger, beauty, etc to me.
Music can be both funny and brilliant.

Theres literally a zappa album titled "does humor belong in music?" I feel you on ween. I discovered them a little late, mid 2000s. I had the opposite reaction. "Where has this music been my whole life?"

I used to be in a sketch comedy group with the daughter in law of another famous 60’s musician, so spent quite a bit of time at their house for a while. I met Ahmet and Dweezil there (separately. I don’t think they got along at that point). Dweezil was kind of an a******, but Ahmet was a really nice, silly, constant-dad-joke-dropping dork. He kept coming by while we were having writing sessions and would always pitch the same slightly edgelordey, very 90’s sketch:
ZomBenét Ramsey- Ahmet (in a floofy pageant gown and tiara) wanted to play a zombie version of JonBenét Ramsey. Back from the grave, cute as a button, with a thirst for revenge. This was the entirety of the pitch. No story. No hook. No punchline. Dude just REALLY wanted to cosplay as zombie JonBenét. 🤣

They have always been in a weird spot for sure. Always heard people hating on Geddy Lees vocals but I always loved them. Rush have always been the out of place band in my Playlist. Can't explain what it is but you either love them or hate them. I think part of it is that they played what they wanted and that makes it more challenging for people to regularly enjoy their music. Devin Townsend is another example of thaylt where he had is heavy phase with Strapping Young Lad and diverted all the way to the other side doing a prog country album just because he wanted to.

Tool fits in the “music for musicians” file for me. To really appreciate it, you have to listen to it completely. You can just listen to a tool song, and it’s a decent prog metal song. But listen to what Danny Carey is doing. Listen to how Justin and Adam alternate carrying the groove while the other decorates. How there is so much patience in their composition. It’ll build to something… but not give it to you. Build again… not yet. When they finally give it to you, it’s better than it ought to be because you had to wait for it.
You can’t just passively listen and “get it.” You have to actively listen.

I’m a middle-aged man who owns a record store. Taylor Swift isn’t making her music with me as her target audience.
A lot of her music is not really my taste, but I really respect her as a songwriter, and I absolutely adore her for the person she seems to be.
She’s hard-working and responsible, she treats her people really well, and she’s incredibly giving to her fans.

Demi Lovato. Never really gave her a though when it came to music because I've always been a Rock and Metal fan, but when she decided to do a rock album with Nita Strauss as her touring guitar player I got interested. Stand by it that it was one of the best Rock albums to be released that year. A surprising amount of "Pop" artists dont enjoy being stuck in that specific genre so It was refreshing watching someone break out of their usual like that.

I didn’t really appreciate the Beatles until my early twenties (25 now) and it was mostly because I realized how many of the bands I like pull their tones and sounds directly from the Beatles. They were so incredibly versatile through their career you’ll surely find a song that was a direct influence of something you like

You kinda have to grow up with them to get them. It seems like every person on here that doesn't like the Beatles started off with much, much darker/edgier/more vulgar (or just more complex/underground) music and never formed an emotional connection with them. I started listening to them when I was 11 in 2004 via the "1" album, which of course was a collection of absolute joy to my young ears, so listening to their music now is like remembering old times with dear friends who moved away long ago.

Absolutely not. I'm in my 50's so didn't grow up 'with" them, and I love them. I have two adult daughters who love them. Their popularity demonstrably transcends generations.
This just really underscores "there's no accounting for taste" including be contemporaries.

Same. I went through an edgy *f*** the Beatles* phase as a young prog kid/shred rocker(ha), but if you mature at all in your journey, you have to at the very least recognize them as pioneers and the template for pretty much everything that followed. And then when you start actually delving into it, you have to recognize them (McCartney in particular imo) as some of the greatest songwriters ever. What is often deceptively simple is genius under the hood.

Bono. He seems really committed to trying to make the world a better place for everyone.
And as far as I know he never made a solo album. Could have left the band and made a ton of money for himself, but he stuck with his mates.

Bruce Springsteen. I have lots of respect for him. I like his music, what he stands for (as far as I am aware) and that he gives his fans his all during his performances, for three hour long shows even as he ages. He seems genuine. I know he is a great songwriter and has a gazillion die hard fans. I am just not one of them.

Geese technically checks all the boxes for me but I just can’t get past Cameron Winter’s voice.
King Gizzard I also love but they have a lot of songs (probably the majority) that just don’t work for me from a production aspect. I’ve seen them live like 5 times though and they never disappoint, but their studio records don’t capture the feeling of a live performance, much like many other jam bands

So, for a reason I have never discovered, certain pearl jam songs just... Piss me off? Like I don't even realize it for a minute that I'm just angry as hell, and I'm like "why?"
It's not every pearl jam song, just a couple of them, and only those songs do this to me. There was also an Incubus song that always made my cats angry lmao.
