I thought being Polish was a profession. When I was around six we had a team of Polish carpenters doing some work at our home. Lovely people. But when my parents were talking they always referred to them as "the Polish". So me being six thought "Polish" was another name for carpenter. Fast forward a year or two and one day in school we are talking about what people want to be when they grew up. One classmate say they want to build houses. I then ask if they want to become Polish when they grew up. After my teacher got a hefty laugh she explained what Polish meant.

That toucans were called that because they always flew in pairs.

That all parents love their children. Big life lesson for me once I understood my parents did not and others do.

My parents always fought. But I noticed that if I did well at school or won awards, they would fight less. So I kept trying to win more awards because I thought that would keep them together. It didn't.

I used to believe that the rumble strip is how blind people stayed in the lanes. That wasn't nearly as bad though as when I told this story as a teen and a friend of mine responded, "so how do they stay in the lanes?".
