What's the thing you hated first but then got obsessed with it?

Posted by JazzlikeCollege6089

What's the thing that you didn't like first but later found that it was amazing. For me it was Harry Potter, at first i thought just some random magic movie (overrated), but when I saw the movie i become obsessed with it. So, what was it for you?

The gym. It was painful at first and really hated, but I’ve learned to love it. I don’t miss a day now.

I never in my life thought I’d be a gym person. Always hated exercise. Much better at dieting but even that was just a temporary fix. A year ago I go a trainer and I go the gym regularly. I’d still prefer to lay on the couch BUT I’ve been doing it consistently for over a year and I’m pretty proud of myself

One piece. I thought it was just another corny battle anime that was ridiculously long with tasteless fan-service. I told myself for years I would never watch it. Well the day came I actually watched it and I have to say it’s really good. Def not perfect, pacing could be better and I don’t like the way the women are drawn/treated. But it’s actually really really good and very insightful.

I like what the YouTuber MelonTree (a woman) said about One Piece's women: They're such good characters, you forget they're drawn that way.

Yes exactly, The thing that surprised me the most is how contradictory Oda is in his thinking when it comes to minorities. He understands issues minorities go through but certain choices artistic and writting wise he reduces them to stereotypes. (Women/lgbtq+/general racism). He’s the most bigoted progressive person I’ve ever seen😭

i definitely avoided it for ages for the way the women are drawn/treated as well, and also some imo creepy things about the author i wont get into here. i still haven’t watched it or read the manga, maybe one day, but i LOVE the live action show!! the women are well-written and obviously they are real people so don’t look like the source media. have you seen the live action?

I'm pushing 70 and really like the live-action but I was never really much into anime. The actual anime cartoon is pretty good but the intro and closing credits are too long. I have never in my life read manga but I did read some regular comic books back in the late 60s and early 70s. I switched to sci-fi/fantasy novels after the mid 70s and never looked back.

One Direction. 🫣 At first it was a joke, then my best friend and I became full on Directioners and got wayyyy too into it. The only thing I have left from that time in my life is my 1D Christmas ornament which was proudly displayed on my tree last year 😂

Minecraft.. I used to play Terraria a LOT, and my then youngest used to play Minecraft. I tried it a couple of times, but it was stupid. 3D Terraria I used to call it. But the Childling was adamant it was amazing, and wanted me to play it as well. I've always tried my hardest to get into and to understand whatever it is my kids are into, and so I relented... When he was six or seven years old, I sat down with him and had him go through every single thing, step by step. And from then on, I was hooked, and aside from a few breaks, I have played it pretty much consistently since 2012/2013. I still completely suck at Redstone though.

a number of things: Transformers. i spent my life barely aware it even existed (i somehow seemed to have only known of Bumblebee’s existence? i seriously don’t think i knew of Optimus Prime at all). my bf is super into Transformers so he showed me the 80s show, and i fell in LOVE. Monster Hunter. because as much as i wanted to like it, im horrendous at video games and struggled *a lot* with it. but i kept trying over and over, i still hit road bumps sometimes but i love the games regardless! bbno$. showed him to my bf and we thought he was “cringey”, we listened to some of his music ironically all while laughing and then at some point it became unironic…he’s still cringey though, i just like it now lol and the most shameful one imo: 1000-lb Sisters. i hate TLC, i don’t usually watch shows like this, and i still think TLC sucks and is exploitive. i don’t know how this happened, but im very fascinated by the cast of mostly awful people and their weird drama. maybe the show will get canceled eventually so i can escape this rabbit hole im stuck in

I´m a self taught artist and I avoided perspective (boring) and anatomy (complicated) and I´m now obsessed with both.
