I love hearing about people’s all time favorite song and the personal meaning behind it. My favorite song is Breakers by Local Natives. The reason it resonates with me is that I deal with a lot of anxiety and get caught up in overthinking to an extreme extent. I love the line "Maybe I’ll believe it from somebody else" because as an over thinker it’s so hard to trust your own thoughts. I’m also in love with the layers in the chorus. It reminds me of cascading waves in the ocean which remind me of growing up on the Gulf Coast.
Curious what songs have stuck with you over time and reason behind it. :)
Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of Little Wing. Nothing makes it meaningful, it just sounds really good to me. Is that a shallow way to appreciate music? Enjoying the intrinsic beauty of music.

Machine Gun by Hendrix/Band of Gypsys. Not only is it possibly the greatest live guitar performance ever, it is a poignant look into the horrors of war. The whole song is dive bombs, explosions, screams and moans of terror all coming out of his soul through the guitar and amp. Absolute mastery of feedback and creativity, the song is largely improvised and is more relevant now than ever, unfortunately. Ultimately it's a message of sonic empathy. Hendrix could really make an emotional tether that connects to the audience so you really feel what he's playing, this is a great example, just insanely epic.

Happy to see someone else choose this. There’s a Lenny Kravitz interview where he says he felt like he needed to take a nap after listening to it.

Mine is “breathe me” by Sia. It’s just a masterpiece of a song in my honest opinion and I described exactly how I was feeling when I first heard it. Plus it played at the end of of my favorite tv shows of all time in Six feet Under.

Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie. I can't really say why. Queen for me is part of the Holy Trinity that includes the Beatles and Led Zeppelin (yes, I'm old). The lyrics really connect with me. I just love it.

Mine is "For the Love of God", by Steve Vai. It is an instrumental song.
At the time the song was released, if I'm remembering correctly, he said that it represented his ultimate expression of his love for God. I'm not a religious person, really at all, but when listening to the music, I can hear and feel that it is exactly what he was trying to say. If that makes any sense.

I just listened to this for the first time and wow, what a beautiful song. It’s like you can feel the notes in your soul. What you’re saying totally makes sense. Honestly it made me tear up!

Music is an amazing thing. It can make me tear up as well, or give me the chills. That's why I love it so much!

Too many, but I’ll go with Cherish the Day by Sade. Reason: the song title.

I love to sing and I love songs that are super challenging vocally.
Paramore's ["All I Wanted"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-i_YUptO7I) is my favorite song, not just for that reason but because it's also so pretty.

Suchhhh a great song. The build up never gets old! I’ve recently been listening to a lot of Paramore after rewatching the Twilight movies for the first time in years, ha.

Dude Paramore is incredible and that song is such a vocal workout. I play drums and used to jam along to their stuff all the time - the way Josh Farro layered those guitars with that driving rhythm section is just perfect. Hayley's voice on that track is insane too, like she goes from these soft vulnerable moments to absolutely belting it out
My go-to has always been In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins. I know its super cliche but as a drummer that fill at the end just hits different every single time. Plus theres something about the buildup and tension in that song that reminds me of being deployed - all that waiting and anticipation before everything changes. Still get goosebumps when those drums finally kick in

Hayley Williams signed a recording contract WITHOUT HER BAND, kept the band name, and hired her "bandmates" as touring musicians. And despite all that proceeded to cosplay as a punk. Despicable human being. Her highly marketable bright hair schtick would have seen them all get a contract if she'd waited a few months. And don't start me on the ghost writers.

It's not the craziest story in rock history. But most musicians wait until they're drugged up millionaires to do something that shitty. She did it before a song was recorded. It's the biggest diva move ever, and again, she cosplayed as a punk chick after that.

My all-time favorite song is a song by my favorite band, Amenra titled [Am Kruez](https://youtu.be/7uebOlXN5jk).
Every note to me is perfection, from the bombastic opening riff (the only thing that they've never been able to get just right again live), to when it shifts to the second movement and becomes very melancholic, and just what it builds to. While not entirely featuring their range, it has a lot of what makes me infatuated with their music. By vibes, they could be described as the sound of pain. But in a cathartic sense. This song the scream exiting your body as you finally collapse and can give no more. And when the guest vocalist (another singer I admire) comes in, it's the perfect blend of beauty, pain, love, sacrifice... many things I feel too abstractly to articulate here and now.
Lyrically, it's *very* heavy. It's stuff I can connect with at different levels depending on my mood. There's obvious Christian imagery (that's a complicated subject out of the scope of this comment, so I'll leave it at that), but there's also a dimension to it that while It's discussing pain, it's also heralding the end of it. Sometimes it's a pure catharsis, sometimes it's a fantasy about just being able to finally have an end to struggle. Either through victory or death.
That sort of gets at it

Walk Away Renee by The Left Banke. The violin melody, particularly during the chorus, is what I imagine it sounds like at the gates of heaven.

Great song, though I prefer the versions by Linda Ronstadt and Rickie Lee Jones. They are both really good singers, and bring a vulnerability to the lyrics that I think fits the song very well.

Answers from Final Fantasy XIV - not really a "personal" reason, but i find it beautiful how it talks about the meaning of life, what it means to be human, purpose. I find that stuff fascinating. And i think the themes/message of the song are a good way to approach life in general. Because of that, it inspired me to actually write a fantasy story that approaches the same themes, so the song is the literal core/basis of that.
Also, gotta mention the song "Flow" from Final Fantasy XIV too. Because these 2 songs are tied together in meaning/themes. Meaning of life + the meaning of death. And it's just beautiful.

I'll Be There For You vby Bon Jovi, performed live by Richie Sambora. This song means the whole world to me because it marked both my resurrection from a very complicated period and coincidentally made me definitely fell in love with him. He really came when I needed something to hold to and kept me alive. The power of music as a healing force still isn't fully acknowledged!

[*Country Feedback*](https://open.spotify.com/track/2H2V8zM6H5RUg8dXfIhpNf?si=QwcQjFNCSNKlx1oh4zr_Eg) by R.E.M has always been in my top 10 tracks.
It's not so much the lyrics (post-breakup blues), but the music. It's the most atmospheric track I've experienced, and that's even considering now with all the advancement music has made.
It's a ghost of the death of a relationship, and everything from the warping guitar, to the empassioned vocals, to the slow-yet-relentless rhythm, implies the melancholy is eternal.
It's such a beautiful piece.
