My biggest fear is being left alone

With MY sense of direction, I'm most afraid of getting lost in a place without my phone or data to help navigate me out.

Being stuck inside an elevator forever

Probably like a lot of people - sitting down after work with my pants half-off, realizing I'm alone, and that if I died right this second, I wouldn't be found for a month or two, once the neighbors couldn't stand the smell from my apartment anymore.

The freak accident. Something bad happening that is totally unpredictable and has like a one in a million chance of happening, but somehow still does.

Driving down a lonely, dark 2 lane highway and getting shot in the face by the driver coming the opposite way 🤷. Irrational. But there it is.

Something happening to my kids. Or dying and leaving them behind

Not my biggest fear or anything, I'd just like a chance before I get much older. LOL! I'm a 51 year old man and I've an interest in performing in the adult film industry. I know my roles would be limited. I'm perfectly ok with that. I'm in Los Angeles. Maybe something will present itself.

The heart can just cease at any moment with no warning. We don't know what comes after.

Losing my sharpest memories or my cognitive health as I get older is a pretty deep one for me. There is something really unsettling about the idea of being physically present but mentally "somewhere else.

Artificial superintelligence. It may or may not arise before the current AI bubble bursts, but if not that just delays the inevitable. Sooner or later, somebody will build it. From there, there are only two possible outcomes: it remains under human control, or it does not. If it does, then a tool powerful enough to confer world domination on those who control it will be in the hands of a small number of billionaire techbros. They'll have absolute power, and it will corrupt them absolutely, and the rest of humanity will be at their mercy, probably forever. We won't get a star trek future; we'll get a galactic technofascist empire that lasts until the heat death of the universe. And that's the best possible outcome. A much worse (and much more likely) scenario is that it will not remain under human control. It's impossible to predict what it will "want," but it doesn't really matter; it will be able to maximize its goals by controlling as much matter and energy as possible. It will find more efficient uses for the resources that sustain us, and we will go extinct. After taking over the planet, it will take over the solar system, then the galaxy, then the reachable portion of the universe, extinguishing all life and all hope of future life as it spreads.

Wasting my time on things that don’t matter and realizing too late I missed what really does

Going to hell. Thirsting for eternity. Going to heaven. Never having a private moment. Scheduled daily singing. No chain smoking. Losing identity and freedom.
