Can't have my dad or brother's names. Won't even consider it.

That or my shitty ex boyfriend’s name.

I never had any hard lines on dating someone with my sister's name until my sister got married to a guy with my name. Once is a coincidence, twice is a pattern. Not letting that happen.

Loud chewing. I know it's shallow. I know. But if I can hear you eating cereal from the next room this isn't going to work and I'd rather be honest about it now than fake a smile through 40 years of breakfast.

Auxocratic Mar 30, 2026 +338
Not shallow. I once dated someone who moaned while they ate along with chewing loudly.
338
LatinAsianBee Mar 30, 2026 +124
Moaned like showing some enjoyment while eating , or..?? 💀
124
Auxocratic Mar 30, 2026 +121
"Don't stop" moaning

Man I like cereal, but not that much 💀

Beliriel Mar 30, 2026 +48
My current flatmate does this. Not always but sometimes she sounds like she's getting railed on the kitchen table while eating whatever tf bland vegan shit she threw together. Like sugarless saltless granola out of bare oats and no flavorings. Oh and she doesn't eat 85% of veggies. No shade on veganism. But eating vegan doesn't mean your food has to be the same consistency as the demon cum you're summoning with your random moans.

w_wh_mWGAT Mar 30, 2026 +27
I had a friend who's mom did that. Went for dinner at her place once, every bite her mom took was open mouth chewing, lip smacking, and audible moaning. It drove me NUTS. Never went back there again.
27
morbidemadame Mar 29, 2026 +115
I'm totally with you. I had to stop seeing a friend because he was not only chewing loudly, but he was also clearing his throat every minute.
115
Treacle_Moon Mar 30, 2026 +76
Unfortunately this is my mum. Loud, mouth open chewer, always clearing her throat so loudly, even with her mouth open. And those arent the only noises. And no consideration of how much I can't stand it. I distance myself from her for that reason alone, just because it makes me feel sick to be near her and I can't help it. She can but chooses not to. As a child, if I asked her politely to do something different, she would do the opposite on purpose. So I learned not to complain. It was awful. I find it so inconsiderate. She doesn't care.
76
Opening-Raccoon-2811 Mar 29, 2026 +290
If someone is a grown adult and still chews with their mouth open they weren’t taught proper manners as a child
290
Full-One5641 Mar 29, 2026 +145
It’s not shallow. I broke up with a partner because of how loud they chew and because they slurp their coffee
145
Anxious_Cucumber6901 Mar 29, 2026 +64
I’m irritated just reading this 🤣
64
stlmoon Mar 30, 2026 +46
That might not be about being shallow. You may suffer from misophonia.
46
Feisty-Quality6143 Mar 30, 2026 +756
Someone who talks about money constantly
756
DigNitty Mar 30, 2026 +57
Man, my roommate in college used to count money in front of women. He was the acting landlord so he usually had copious amount of cash on hand that he “had to have by a certain due date” : rent. But he never cashed it. He would just save it up and count it in from of women “I think I’ll count the rent.” You’d think every girl would roll her eyes. And most did. But the special few totally fell for it. They were awful and they deserved each other.
57
HabaneroPepperPlants Mar 30, 2026 +19
> You’d think every girl would roll her eyes. And most did. But the special few totally fell for it. They were awful and they deserved each other. This is what gets me about the manosphere guys who want to make lots of money to get a girlfriend. Like, why exactly would you even want somebody who cares that much about someone else's money?
19
showMeYourCroissant Mar 30, 2026 +11
Sex, they want sex.

Add writing in all lower case. All the time. I had an ex who would write and type his first and last name in all lower case. Drove me bonkers. Like, what, are you 8 years old?
173
Ginger_Bee Mar 30, 2026 +108
I read an article recently that this is a trend with the younger generations. They find upper case letters too “aggressive”. As an ESL teacher, I’m a bit forgiving with bad spelling, but you’re/your absolutely sends me into a rage. I was in a situationship with a PhD student who spoke English as his first language and he never used you’re/your correctly. I’m now dating an ELA teacher.
108
dramatic_ut Mar 30, 2026 +95

This but you’re sharing a detail about your day and they only reply with, “cool story, bro” before jumping into whatever topic there into. Like, damn, guy, try to make an effort.
102
Meishoku_ Mar 30, 2026 +29
Had a 'buddy' in high school who would always say "Cool story bro, tell it again." if something I said didn't interest him and it *still* makes me immensely aggressive lmao

Bad taste when it comes to memes
1288
neonTULIPS Mar 30, 2026 +739
This is real. My ex man started dying laughing and just had to show me the reels he’s looking at, it’s an ai video of some huge dude shitting everywhere. And the next reel was some dude doing a pedo skit. I’ve never been so grossed out by someone so fast. Cringe AF. It ended that night. Could never imagine having sex with him again after that
739
creatyvechaos Mar 30, 2026 +173
Not shallow at all in that instance. It's their character being displayed openly
173
NuclearMaterial Mar 30, 2026 +57
What the f***
57
ProgressThick2722 Mar 30, 2026 +112
Totally get it. Someone’s taste in memes says everything about who they are. If their meme game is trashy, it just makes the whole person seem low-tier.
112
an_edgy_lemon Mar 30, 2026 +966
Consistently bad grammar and spelling. It has almost no effect on daily life, but I can’t help but lose respect for people who mess it up all the time. We all have spell check and access to Google. It’s not that hard to put a little effort in.
966
-AgonyAunt- Mar 30, 2026 +213
I dated a guy who started a business. He could have named it anything he wanted. I was having fun coming up with names for him. Not only did he name the business something f****** stupid, he spelled it wrong. I was so angry. And embarrassed. I purposely pronounced the business name wrong to show him that you can't just spell words incorrectly!

Obnoxious laughing. Dated a girl for a couple months that would chuckle after almost every sentence. And not like a cute laugh. It was like a full on arms flailing, full tilt laughter.
701
Rob_LeMatic Mar 30, 2026 +363
That sounds like a medical condition. I would definitely go on at least a couple dates with that. I would need to know what would happen if I just laughed back maniacally. Just cackling back and forth like methed up chickens, waiting to see who gave up first
363
Flashy-Parsnip-9676 Mar 29, 2026 +552
I went on a date once with this guy who rolled his eyes every time he talked. And another one who closed his eyes when he talked. Yea can’t do those again.
552
pandasaur7 Mar 30, 2026 +159
As someone who had meningitis still living with some after effects....I think with my eyes. And just moving my eyes around while thinking and speaking would make me dizzy. So I close my eyes when I need to think and speak at the same time. I know its weird, but I also dont wanna be dizzy lol. Meningitis was hard enough
159
Ghost_Peanuts Mar 30, 2026 +217
The fake activist. I dated a guy who put up posts and talked about every hot button issue but didn't actually care about any of them dropping ideals as frequently as he changed underwear. He was a militant Vegan for a week then went back to tacos the following week, totally against palm oil on Wednesday and by Friday scarfing down Nutella.

Doesn't share food. If we can't collectively build an order together for maximum trying, I dont want it.
341
earthlynotion Mar 30, 2026 +68
My newest sister-in-law is my favorite to go out to eat with because we're both adventurous eaters and we both have "try this!" mentality. We often coordinate our orders so we can split our entrees in half and then swap them and get to try 2 new things instead of just one. I love someone I can share food with!

Leaves the kitchen sink full of dishes....
468
WhatsYourTale Mar 30, 2026 +352
After living with someone for years who refused to do dishes (to the point that I'd come home to mold and flies if I went out of town for a week).... I no longer consider this a shallow dealbreaker. Cleaning up after yourself should be a basic expectation for a partner
352
Ok_Guard_8024 Mar 30, 2026 +81
My exes would let his get so bad there wa maggots and flies. Sorry I didn’t live there and I’m not gonna touch maggots. He would hide dirty dishes in the oven when the landlord had inspections. Lol bro just clean it Not the reason I left the idiot. But very gross
81
Bl8675309 Mar 30, 2026 +92
I never realized i was the one always doing dishes until I was in the hospital for 8 days. Had an emergency csection, came home and the dishes were piled up, the ones in the dishwasher were moldy. All the food in the fridge had molded. And it wasnt because he was at the hospital with me, he was at home each day after work and just couldn't bother.
92
Ivyveins Mar 30, 2026 +13
Ohhhhhhh my god. How did you handle that situation?
13
littlebetenoire Mar 30, 2026 +56
Not only this, but people who don’t understand the difference between “doing the dishes” and “cleaning the kitchen”. I’ve lived with so many men who would clean their dishes and think that was their job done. No, you need to wash your dishes, dry your dishes, put your dishes away, clean all your soggy food scraps out of the sink, wipe down the mess you made on the stove, etc.

Obvious. And yes, the technically correct spelling is *come* not *cum* although I don't care how anyone spells it, just don't call it "melt" 😂

12
terrifiedtornado Mar 30, 2026 +87
Last guy I dated would say "I need release." We had a whole slew of sex issues that basically turned it to non existent. We'd argue about it and that's what he would yell at me. " Ok, well, I need release!" I tried explaining how that made me feel like a f*** doll but he never grasped that.
87
WoodsWalker43 Mar 30, 2026 +42
Men do not *need* (ugh) "release". Sounds like either a sex addict or a spoiled child. If he really can't handle it, he's (hopefully) got a left hand.

Non-stop complaints of everything.
302
Treacle_Moon Mar 30, 2026 +132
HATE this. My husband became this after a few years of marriage. Broke me so much I was ready to leave because the constant complaining about everything tiny incontinence, and ignoring all the actual good things in our life, just really brought me down and contributed to depression. After I was good to go because I was so unhappy, he made efforts to complain less. I was just like, you have to let me enjoy my life. But I can't when there is always a horrible atmosphere and a small inconvenience beings your mood right down. I'm talking even just dropping a fork would have set him off about what an effing shitty day it is etc. Thankfully things have improved. It's not the laid back happy life I'd like, but I'm not hating it every day either lol. So yes. Valid ick.
132
scumfuc420 Mar 30, 2026 +148

I feel this, my fiancé also used to be like this until I threatened to leave his miserable ass and went to stay with my parents for three weeks. Nowadays I occasionally have to remind him to shut up when he gets carried away complaining but overall he’s much better.
26
Freakazoidberg Mar 30, 2026 +27
My wife is like that. She wakes up and complains that she hasn't slept well. Even though I let her sleep in till 10am on the weekends while I feed the kids. If it rains she complains that it's too gloomy. If it's sunny she'll complain that it's so nice and we're wasting time at home... but won't go out because she's too tired. She'll complain about how difficult it is with two toddlers at home even though I do everything (breakfast, dinners, playtime, bedtimes etc). She complains on vacations how expensive everything is (the vacations she planned). On the same vacations she'll complain how tired she is because she couldn't sleep on a hotel bed that she's not used to. She'll complain at restaurants because they don't have good vegetarian options (she's a vegetarian but she picked the restaurant). But mostly she complains about work EVERYDAY. She's a physician who works a lot but complains everyday about... Patients, nurses, patients' families that she has to talk to, NPs, fellow physicians who don't document well, healthcare system as a whole, etc. It's honestly exhausting and I feel so void of any joy.

I used to be like this and my ex-girlfriend gave me some good advice, she taught me a Japanese word前向き Mae-muki which just means “forward facing” but it means facing the future with a positive attitude. I took it to heart.

Picky eaters.
702
littlebetenoire Mar 30, 2026 +42
This! Not only was my ex a picky eater but he refused to ever try new foods. It was so frustrating because it limited what I got to eat and I constantly felt like I was dining with a child. My partner now eats everythinnnggg and will always at least give new foods a try. It’s so good cause I never have to check with him “is it okay if we have xyz for dinner?” Cause I know if I try a new recipe, he will eat it and enjoy it. We can go to fine dining restaurants where you don’t know the menu in advance because I know he will eat everything regardless of what it is. Travelling is so easy too because no matter what country we are in, he will try the cuisine. We don’t have to always eat familiar foods.

NAINOA- Mar 29, 2026 +301
I made this mistake. Dated someone for years who had ARFID. She basically only ate french fries and chicken tenders. It was quirky at first, but it became an exhausting and embarrassing any time we wanted to be social. I also thought that with some time and encouragement they would open up to trying new things, but she simply had no desire to fix what was clearly a debilitating eating disorder. EDIT: As many are pointing out, ARFID is *very* difficult to overcome. (I don’t really beleive that it’s *impossible* despite what some may say) My ex’s ARFID isn’t solely responsible for our breakup, rather it was two deeply unwell people keeping each other down. That being said, moving forward, I would *never* choose date someone with ARFID again.

I dunno if it’s a dealbreaker really but I once had an ex with really ugly feet. I’m not even a feet guy but I noticed it and it was distracting. Like she had witch feet. We didnt break up because of this and I genuinely felt bad. I tried giving her pedicure gift certificates and everything. Not interested. Anyway. Take care of your feet.

Yes please. Dated a man with poor foot hygiene once. I remember going on vacation for a week and coming home thinking an animal had died somewhere in the apartment. Looked everywhere and couldn't find any dead animals. IT WAS HIS SHOES. I threw out the only two pairs of sneakers he owned and told him he was getting new ones that day. Shoes should not smell like death.

Sarah Millican is my favorite comedian and she talks about her husband's owl-like feet. Crunchy, talons, hook like and grubby.

I dated someone who wrote “Hay” instead of “Hey”. I told him a few times about the difference, but it didn’t sink in. So, no way was “fathom” not “famine” and “precedent” not “president” ever going to sink in. Hope you’re doing fiend, Antny.

High-pitched voice in a man. I was kinda flirting over DMs with a guy that I considered I could date and he sent me a voice note… noped right out. It sounded like he had aspirated helium before starting the recording. Dried me up instantly.

This is one of my biggest insecurities lol I sound gay (really no other way to put it) and it's literally chased women away. I try to mask, but my real voice in just fruity AF (growing up around a lot of gay people will do it)

This guy I went on a date with didn’t ask me if I wanted the last dumpling (this was a shared appetizer). He just took it and ate it. Safe to say there was no second date. He demonstrated early on that he lacks consideration, and also manners clearly. He set a standard. If he can’t remember to ask if I may want the last piece of food on a tray then how can I expect that man to think of me in any major scenario?? Nope

Sounds like the kind of person that would also eat all the fully loaded nachos, even when it's clearly against the restaurant's rules.

I went on a date with this girl and they were eating all the fully loaded ones with all the cheese and meat and stuff and I'm getting like just chip. Like just chip with maybe like a little nugget of meat.

Being raised in an Asian household, it can be funny going out to eat with some of my other Asian friends because *nobody* wants to eat the last bite of anything in a communal dish.

TheShitty_Beatles Mar 30, 2026 +67
This is soooo real. I love a disgustingly polite man. I'm born in Canada but one of my parents is of an Asian culture that is huge on respect and family piety etc. being thoughtful and generous is so important to me like I CANNOT with the selfishness

If they view sex as casual/simple. I'm generally not even really a "traditional" person (at least since I'm a left leaning feminist), nor do I want my partner to be a virgin. I just view sex as something very intimate and exclusive. I like to have fun and love experimenting, but I can do that all with one person. If my partner doesn't want to try something, then I just won't get to either — I believe relationships are all about learning to compromise anyway. It's also objectively risky because of pregnancy, STI/STDs, UTIs, etc. Maybe it's because I've been SA'd, but idk.

Smoking/vaping. Can't stand it. And for all the people who smoke or vape who *think* they've hidden the smell with gum or deodorant or whatever else: You really haven't. And it's sad you don't realise you still reek of it. Shallow as hell, but not sorry.
246
munchkin1977 Mar 30, 2026 +65
For me, it's people who insist on smoking indoors without having any consideration for others within the vicinity. It's being selfish, IMO...
65
Ameerrante Mar 30, 2026 +54
Vaping leaves a lingering smell? I don't vape, but my friends do, but I have a very poor sense of smell. I *can* smell cigs and weed, and occasionally some fruitiness from my friends' vapes for like 30 seconds, but nothing that lingers.
54
creatyvechaos Mar 30, 2026 +21
Not unless you walk straight through a cloud of it. It's the burning of tobacco that leaves a smell. It's also why people who are in areas that don't allow you to smoke weed on the property (like, apartments) will lean towards carts. Sure, the smell will be there for a moment, but once it's dispersed it isn't going to linger and stick to anything but your mouth—unless you walked through a cloud of it
