When this link is 1 hour old, listnook will go down for scheduled maintenance (see inside for details)

Posted by jedberg

We will be taking down our master databases to make some adjustments to our Postgres cluster, which will hopefully speed things up. We don't expect the downtime to last very long, but it might. :) Edit: Sorry folks down under. I really love your country (NYE was awesome!) but sadly, this is the slowest point of the day for us.

Come on everyone if we work together and f5 enough right now, listnook will go down earlier, and it will come back faster! This is a rare opportunity.

Quick, load [Little known sites that everyone should know](http://www.listnook.com/r/AskListnook/comments/g8jiq/listnook_whats_a_littleknown_site_you_think), and go through the links. That should kill most of the down time.

Hey, if it's for the greater good, I wouldn't care if Listnook goes down for more than three hours. Anything more than three hours though, and Listnook is responsible for my suicide.
20
jedberg Mar 23, 2011 +17
We'll keep that in mind.
17
PavelDatsyuk Mar 23, 2011 +1
I read that in Shepard's voice. I've been playing the Mass Effect games all day, though. I didn't have an xbox 360 until about a week ago so I'm catching up on all the games I missed.

I already apologized!
2

It's OK I forgive you. Even if I never did get my promised swag from designing a listnook tshirt 2 years ago. *sniff*
1
vozerek Mar 23, 2011 +1
Won't the slave databases work tirelessly to keep us browsing though? WHAT ARE THEY FOR IF NOT THAT? /no idea what you are doing
1
jedberg Mar 23, 2011 +2
Unfortunately we can't totally rely on the slaves alone. But if you log out you won't notice the downtime (just make sure you remember your password).

In this globalised world we live in we should do away with such a primitive system of keeping time. That way it will be the same time everywhere and these problems will no longer exist. I see absolutely no down side to this.

Yeah, because admins *love* doing maintenance at midnight... especially right after coming back from a good dinner, ready to relax a bit before heading to bed (or doing your own surfing). Then again, guess that's kind of "our life" ... particularly on those things you guys call "weekends." /smirk

I was going to downvote this is frustration and bad taste, but then I remembered that I have a shit tonne of assignments and studying to do. Coding, studying for quizzes, calculus assignment, plans for a bridge, reading Kant (who apparently writes so verbosely that you have to read that shit over and over again to absorb it), listening to missed lectures - please, this downtime can't come any sooner. It's 5PM here by the way.

Take pity on that poor sod who you linked to as the #1 result on your "listnook is down" page. His site never saw the light of day during your last downtime.

Come on! I've been at work all day... Why can't you do it at a time that inconveniences the Americans for a change...
