Final Destination. I still think about the most random worst-case scenarios because of it

I first saw final destination in middle school. It’s been 7-8 years and I still can’t drive behind trucks that are carrying logs or a big pile of any kind of long things at all, really. Even driving behind those pickup trucks that have ladders strapped to the top kinda freaks me out

I have to say I agree, it's not that the movie itself was particularly scary itself... the concept just makes you rethink things in everyday life which is petrifying!

Every time I hear a clown laugh, I’m instantly transported back to that night alone in my living room, watching It for the first time as a kid… some fears just stick with you.

Resident Evil when it comes to games. Playing that as a young kid was brutal (for me at least)

I was fully expecting a reply like this, definitely games which we shouldn't have played as kids. The game that made me think of this question was Jersey Devil for the playstation one, I couldn't have been older than 5/6 at the time. The art style, music, everything. Absolutely terrifying in that moment. Still went back to play it again and again.

To be honest I think I’d still get frightened if I played Resident Evil now… The Last Of Us was pretty heavy too if we want to talk about recent games 😂

Yet the the TV series really doesn't hit the same in terms of fear factor? Whether that's just because we know what to expect or just more engrossed in a video game... feels more personal maybe?

No I think you’re right. Playing a “scary” game is way more intense than watching a “scary” movie. You’re controlling the character and with movies you’re just watching from the sideline if you know what I mean 😂

I refuse to pickup VR for this exact reason. I'd be in an early grave for sure.

Playing such games via VR could be traumatic, I agree 😂

the giant from 'the princess bride' really freaked me out as a kid; still gives me the heebie-jeebies thinking about it. some scenes just hit different when you're little, ya know?

Watership Down.
Can't see rabbits without thinking of the dying rabbits trapped in their warren, the sweary seagull and nazi-rabbit-brothelkeeper General Woundwort.

Courage the Cowardly Dog really said ‘this is a kids show’ and then dropped shadow demons in the corner of my room 💀
I didn’t fear ghosts… I feared turning off the lights and seeing that thing waiting 😭”

My late Grandmother saw Wizard of Oz in the cinema when she was a child. She said the wicked witches feet curling up gave her nightmares even into adulthood.

The trailer for Lights Out, not the movie. I worked up the courage to watch the movie like eight years after I first saw the trailer but somehow the trailer is still and always has been scarier

Alien. I hate it when stuff flies at my face.
I was way too young when my older brother requested we rent Alien from Blockbuster.
I also had a loft bed at the time, so I had to climb the ladder to even see the top of my mattress.
Every night for about 3 months, I made my dad climb up there first and make sure there were no eggs or facehuggers hiding up there to get me. My brother found it hilarious.
I am no longer generally afraid of facehuggers or unseen mattresses. But still, 20+ years later, I recoil in horror whenever anything flies near my face. Be it a ball or a butterfly, I feel certain that anything flying near my face is a death sentence until I can take a sec to calm down.
