Which movie is a 10/10 for you? 🎬

Posted by Embarrassed-Air8214

Not just a good movie, but one you think is absolutely perfect in every way — story, acting, music, visuals, everything. A film you can watch again and again without getting bored and still feel the same impact every time. For me, movies like Interstellar come close. Curious to know what movies you consider a true 10/10 masterpiece 👇

This! A beautiful score, solid comedy, exciting action, tight direction, oddball but perfect casting, a gorgeous, memorable art direction, scary horror elements but suitable for most kids, big set pieces but remains a human story, etc. Jurassic has it all.

The romance between Neo and Trinity is pretty shitty upon rewatch. First time I watched it I thought I skipped several scenes and had to go back and skim through the movie because to me their romance came right the hell out of nowhere.

To me it felt like she was a bit of a creeper and in love with him before they even met. Neo was just mellow enough to roll with it

The Goofy Movie. Watching it as a kid and relating to Max was cool. Then watching it as an adult and relating to Goofy hits different. Banging soundtrack. 10/10

I love this answer. Despite feeling exceedingly 90s, it's almost shocking how well they movie holds up. I'm a huge fan of it, but my wife loves it even more than I do. In fact, for our son's first Halloween, I was Max, my wife was Roxanne, our son was Powerline, & our little old dog was Goofy. It was truly excellent, if I do say so myself.

BR2049 and lost in translation are not movies I expected to see mentioned here. We have similar taste.

Dark Knight no doubt. Just an absolutely epic and breathtaking piece of art. The Heath Ledger added context only cemented it.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon I initially loved it because of the fight scenes. I remember being blown away by the Matrix but Crouching Tiger was on another level. Saw it at least 13 times in the theater when it came out. Over the years I have watched it from time to time, and have seen a lot of martial arts movies...and I think it has the best action/wire work. But what made me later fall in love with the movie was the music, scenery, the story, and the acting. The movie does a great job of using these long shots and scenery to really show Jen living in different worlds and trying to find her place in them. It's a heartbreaking story of a flawed young woman who is trying to assert herself, learn, love, and find a way towards freedom in life. I guess she's the protagonist- the movie shows her being so terrible and arrogant, but spends a lot of time also showing her trying to find herself while trying to navigate her place in society. The movie takes its time telling the story. There are a lot of lingering moments and subtleties that speak volumes upon rewatching. Some humor is poignant, and things characters don't say or act on has a silence that is rather loud at times. Two main themes that change trajectories throughout is how love and freedom are intertwined (both with Li Mu Bai and Shu Lien/Jen and Lo). The other theme is the relationship between the teacher and student, and how intimate and fragile this type of interaction can be. I first disliked the ending, later decided I loved it. 10/10 for sure. It's in my top 5 of all time. I have since actively looked towards mainland Chinese and Hong Kong movies. Zhang Ziyi and Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun Fat are fantastic actors, and I have come to realize how vast their careers have been (especially the last two.)

i used to feel the same way. really thinking 3 was borderline... but over the years i've let go of any dislike for them and love them as a trilogy, who cares about plot holes and silliness. it's just a great story with great characters by great actors. bttf4eva (as the kids would say, about 30 years ago probably)

Not a popular choice, and maybe not in an artistic sense but for me a 10/10 in terms of Rewatchability above all else, as in i will rewatch it as many times as possible and never get bored?? 100% it’s gonna be Edge of Tomorrow. From beginning to end the movie is just a rollercoaster of fun, mystery, & excellence in every way. I cant think of a movie that i can rewatch more times aside from SpiderMan movies (because im a sucker for SpiderMan) but even those get boring to a point and not all of them are very good. The only movie ive watched as many times or close to as many times as Edge of Tomorrow is possibly Blade Runner 2049
1
andro_7 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Hard agree. I randomly walked into it at the theater to watch it for a few minutes and wow. After I got the idea of the type of movie it was I decided to walk out before I understood too much, and bought a ticket. Great movie. I feel like I said this a long time ago on Listnook somewhere, but the time loop story is a great exercise in how important understanding "tone" can determine the story. Example- I love how every time the "there's a dead guy in it" joke is told, the punchline is the same but means 3 different things that accurately portray the feel of the 3 different scenes. Example- I love how depending on how exhausted or traumatized Cage is it has such an effect on his relative regard on others' well being. My favorite scene in the whole thing was after Rita died in the helicopter, and Cage decides not to involve her, tells the punchline matter-of-factly "there's a dead guy in it," and then just unemotionally watches the plane fall ontop of one of J-Squad's members. What a harrowing turn. It might be in my top 5, maybe top 10 movies of all time and I tend to mostly like classics and art-house cinema. Edge is very good, and worth rewatching immediately after. PS- recommend Before I Fall. It's a time loop movie that doesn't have much action, doesn't get into scientific notions, but leads hard into a focus on how this event wears on a person, and ways to experience personal growth and change.
1
Inevitable-Ice-5061 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Oh man i watched Before I Fall and it had a brilliant concept until that stupid end. A better timeloop movie for me was Palm Springs. Again no action but just funny and emotional in a better way
1
jacodemon Apr 3, 2026 +1
I went into EoT blind and I still hold that it's one of the best times I ever had with a film. It's crazy to me that it's not held as more of a classic / in higher regard than it is. I guess it's destined to be a genre flick.

1
ThouBear8 Apr 3, 2026 +1
The Princess Bride. The casting, the writing, the perfectly balanced variety of genres, it's all perfect. It's one of very few movies that I literally don't think I would change a single thing about. There are other movies that aren't necessarily actual perfect movies per se, but they perfectly executed exactly what they were going for. Movies like Galaxy Quest fall into this category imo (tho it's pretty damn good even in the traditional sense).
1
DandyLama Apr 3, 2026 +1
There's something about the way that The Princess Bride sells its suspension of disbelief that beggars comprehension. My eyes recognize in hindsight that the boat was a dinky little amusement park ride style boat on a track. My brain every time while I'm watching the movie gives not a single f***, that is clearly a perfect ship sailing through eel-infested waters.

Yall like 2 better than 1?
1
Inevitable-Ice-5061 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Idk about everyone else but for me 2 was better than 1. 1 was a great introduction but didnt have sufficient action and sequences to warrant a superb movie. It was a story about downfall and survival. The ending was underwhelming too. 2 was just mindblowing from start to finish. The opening scene when you see the harkonen soldiers float. The rituals. The resistance sequence. The gladiator arena under the black sun. The worm riding. The assault on the head quarters. Every aspect of the second part just blows your mind. And then it ends with a perfect climatic 1v1 battle between equally matched opponents with perfect choreography. How can you top that?
1
ginganinga223 Apr 3, 2026 +1
I just got a new OLED TV. Dune 2 was the first movie I watched on 4K Blu-ray. The whole gladiator scene and the interaction in the hallway right after looked so f****** good and definitely put to rest any buyers remorse 😂

I have exactly 6 movies I rate 10/10: Matrix - a masterpiece that had a massive influence on my formative years Snatch - Guy Ritchie will forever have the benefit of the doubt after this one Shutter Island - 2 movies in one, as the second watch is a completely different experience Mad Max: Fury Road - perfect action movie, incredible storytelling, lore building with little to no plot Godzilla Minus One - better than the original, and an amazing trauma movie on its own Hydrozagadka - a 1970 Polish 'superhero' movie, which holds a special place in my heart, an infinitely quotable parody of the communist propaganda and action movies in general

For me it is lord of the rings, especially the first two movies. The pacing of the last one does not feel like a 10/10 more a 9/10. But the first two just seem perfect. The acting is amazing, especially in the first one with Sean bean there. Boromir is just a really good character in a world that is a lot of black and white he has more layers to him. The pacing between action scenes and more slowly scenes are good, the world building is just awesome.

12 Angry Men with Henry Fonda. Love this movie. And The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Fabulous 👌 Kinda more than one but I could choose between them.

I don't know why but I love Adrian Lyne 's films...not only the plots but the overall 80s vibes, decor, feelings...

A 10/10 as my personnal preference or 10/10 a masterpiece of cinema? My personnal is : The Secret Life of Walter Mitty A Mastepiece is : The Handmaiden Not that Handmaiden isn't in my top 10 but Walter Mitty touched on a subject I have and that is often forgotten that is Maladaptive Daydreaming which is a real dissociation disorder that I didnt know I had or existed before this movie. It literally changed my life. Why the Handmaiden is a masterpiece compared to all the other movies is that I think it is perfect in all it's aspect : visual, action, soundtrack, storytelling, etc.

Interstellar comes close but shoots itself in the foot. The Lighthouse, Lawrence of Arabia, Casablanca, Blade Runner, and Dune 2 come to mind.
