I'm aware, and yes it has crashed because of closeted/self-hating republican queers for multiple conventions and conservative gatherings, and yes the irony is palpable that this happens, like the open secrets about Graham hiring male prostitutes. My point is that a lot of people use this line to imply that this only happens during R conventions, that more republicans use it, which is disingenuous. Context is useful.

I think you've convinced yourself of the reason that people bring this up. They don't bring up that it happens during other large conventions because presumably those conventions aren't geared toward stripping away rights from LGBT people. Republican conventions are, so they are pointing out the irony. You're missing the part where you are assuming why people point this out and not the other. We know Grindr crashes at other times- but those times don't display how deeply some gay men hate other queer people. Nobody is saying it happens more or only during Republican conventions, you've made that part up in your own mind.

There’s also a correlation between being trans and volunteering for military service, and a correlation between military service and republicans. I’d be interested to see data on the demographics. I’d hypothesize that a statistically significant portion of trans Trump voters are white and went into law enforcement or the military.

Between being pretty close to DC and gay, I don’t see too many conservatives on apps but every now and then I see one and I’m just so confused. I saw a profile earlier this year and not only did she have a picture of herself in front of a Trump portrait, she had a text prompt basically saying being a liberal was a deal breaker and she was tired of being the only one wanting to meet in the middle.

Yeah I think part of it is that the GOP has …somewhat… stopped being outwardly antagonistic to “normal” gay and lesbian people. So they feel that fight is over or it’s an “agree to disagree” topic. Obviously, the queer community is not a monolith and just because you’re gay doesn’t mean you “agree” with trans ideas for example. Also people enjoy being contradictions or “the good one” or whatever right? Like “I’m so unique cuz even tho I’m a lesbian I’m actually super conservative I’m not like all the other ones…” kinda thing.

It feels like a really weird, but predictable result of politicians using basically only wedge issues to get votes from the “middle third” of voters. If you know you’ve got 33% of the vote basically locked in, and you have to capture 17.1% from undecided/low-information voters; you can just use those wedge issues exclusively to build the narrative of not why you are a good candidate, but why the other candidate is bad. Take your example, veteran lesbian couple. Seems like those 5% of issues they would disagree with would absolutely be against their interests. The Republican Party hates that they exist because they’re women, *and* gay. So they’re voting against their own interests. But republicans *also* hate trans people, and do everything they can to demonize and harm women who have children. So if you’re a pretty anti-natal lesbian couple who also happen to be pretty goddamn anti-trans; you’re not voting *for* the other bad stuff for LGBTQ+ folks, or women (you tell yourself). Instead you’re voting *against* the pro-trans, pro-natal democratic candidate.

I have 2 trans family members who voted for him 3 times. One of which has undocumented immigrants in the family. I can't even begin to make sense of it. I'd like to blame it on them being ignorant, uneducated folks from rural Indiana, but I know plenty of liberal folks that grew up the same way. I blame decades of propaganda.

He's still listed as a current member, and as far as I can tell, nothing like that ever happened. Willis is still listed as an active member, but I don't know if he's performed with the group recently and can't confirm one way or another. In other words, it appears his statements were motivated by royalties and to signal to the world that, in fact, he's just leveling out his retirement fund, no thanks or acknowledgement offered to many of his life-long supporters and fans.

Our government sure likes to go after foreign leaders for supposedly being gay. They did it with Sukarno in Indonesia in the 50's, Hussein in 2003 in Iraq and with Gaddafi in Libya. They were apparently trying to fabricate a sex tape with a guy pretending to be Hussein and a teenage boy, but dropped it.
