Why does it always have to end with them coming together and not just them being best friends? The dam fans have to ship them which causes the creators to officially ship them. I'm looking at you star vs that was a great show
I've been meaning to start that one but keep getting distracted by games during football season lol

There are many people who are just friends.
If you have a specific example that made you mad, you've got to mention it, or we'll have no idea what you're talking about.

Literally you didn’t mention it. You said “star vs” as if anyone would know what that means.

The creators were hinting at Star and Marco from season 1 bro, it was never going to be any different and you were kidding yourself if you thought it was.

That show had a lot more going wrong than the shipping.

What I Like About You - Holly and Gary stay best friends and they never even try to hint at there being more.

Because romance sells more than friendship. And in any series with a person living their life, dating is likely to come up.
Some shows do it well (Owl House) others less so...then you have Scrubs.

What's funny is that when shows do commit to a romance between the two leads it almost always kills the dynamic that made people ship them in the first place. The tension was the interesting part. Once they're together the writers don't know what to do with them and the show declines.

Smart writers save it for the finale.

Let me get this straight, you think that two heterosexual teenagers wouldn't become romantically involved with their attractive best friend of the opposite sex? Why the hell wouldn't they?

Killjoys, Dutch and Johnny stayed just best friends (and platonic soulmates).
iZombie, Liv and Ravi stayed just friends.
They’re two of my favourite TV relationships.

There’s a show called Platonic about.. well it’s in the title.

There are plenty of examples of shows that do this. Maybe widen your scope of viewing beyond decade old Disney shows.

Joey and Phoebe on Friends were close without ever having a will they won’t they moment
Cece and Winston on New Girl are another example

"Ship" them? And what is "star"?

Star vs the forces of evil but I said it shorter because I didn't want to write it all

Okay, never heard of that...show.
Now, is "ship" a colloquialism for "hooking up"?

keving87Mar 29, 2026

It's short for relationship, when people want characters to start a relationship, they're "shipping" them. The term has been around since the mid 90s, I think it started because of Mulder and Scully.

It was a cartoon that teased a lot of shipping and the main characters end up together.
It had a lot more problems than that.

Shipping is when fans of a show are weird and think everyone should get together and not just be friends. There is a lot of fanfics of that for many fandoms
