Compared to big-screen Marvel projects, it sometimes felt unfinished.
Did people expect a superhero drama, but got a meta comedy? Were the jokes not landing? Was the legal aspect not as deep or clever as it could’ve been? Was the gender culture too preachy or targeted at the online chuds? Can tatiana maslany lead and carry a show?
>but got a meta comedy
That IS what the she hulk comics are, she did it before dead pool.

So you didn't watch it.. and are basing it being terrible on online comments?

Majority of complaints on this show is either from people who didnt watch it at all, or people who only saw like the 3-5 second bad cgi clip, or the out of context "i have it worse than you bruce" talk or the after-credit 5 second scene with Megan Thee Stallion.
The show was fine, it was a good 6.5/10. If the exact same story happened but it was not marvel and not a female lead character but a male character, id say 75% of the complaints would be gone.

It wasn't a terrible show. It wasn't a great show. It was fine. If you went in expecting something light, meta, with no real stakes, you weren't disappointed. But a lot of the discussion around it became more about agendas and whether or not the show was too "woke", with a big chunk of the internet hating it for reasons that had nothing to do with the quality of the show. It has some legitimate flaws that could be discussed, but if you're not looking for something particularly deep or serious and want a change of pace from the formulaic Marvel shows, She Hulk is quite enjoyable.

I don’t think it was built for multiple seasons. You’ve got her, Hulk, Abomination, *and* …Hulk Jr.
Kind of a miracle it got made at all, for television. Shows with that kind of work cannot justify multiple seasons. They’d be better off pouring that money into a new character for another one off season.
Are there any other major shows that have multiple fully CGI recurring characters like that? Baby Yoda is mostly a puppet. Walton Goggins in Fallout has some CG features but it’s still his face.
I really wish the show had been built differently from the start. More low budget *Daredevil*ish sort of legal shenanigans, lower stakes, honestly a little less meta. I enjoyed when she would break the fourth wall but I did not like the ending.
Do you cast a pro wrestler to play She Hulk? Forced perspective and green paint? Is there CGI but it’s literally only her, and only in the courtroom. Does that cut down on costs? I don’t know how you reconcile that with casting someone like Tatiana Maslany though, and she is fantastic in the role.
They had several body doubles on set, some in green paint and full costume, but she still didn’t feel entirely real.
Ironheart has the same problem. I thought it was competently made, I loved the cast, I wanna see what happens to Riri next. But how do you justify that budget? None of these shows were built to be a multiple season thing, except Born Again and arguably Wonder Man.

>Can tatiana maslany lead and carry a show?
This shouldn't even be a question...
She literally won a Best Lead Actress Emmy for flawlessly playing over 12 different characters interacting with each other on Orphan Black for 5 whole seasons, which also got a free 2-season audio continuation narrated and voiced by her, and even comics centered around her characters with her face(s) on them.
The show also made it into the Nielsen Top 10 US streaming charts this past fall after Netflix acquired it, 8 years after it ended, without any marketing push from studios,
She also carried the first season of HBO's Perry Mason (produced by Robert Downey Jr). Despite not being the lead, she gave a standout performance in that show.
And now she's about to lead another original series with Apple TV's Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, coming out next month.
So yes, not only can lead and carry shows, she might actually be one of the most talented and versatile actors of her generation, and she was perfectly cast as She-Hulk. The show might be far from perfect, but Tatiana was the least of its problems and did the best she could with the material she was given.

If you read the original comic, it is actually a pretty good live action conversion. Absolutely was meta-parody of superhero comics.
It was a risk to make it. I thought it was decent, but the finale fell flat for me. Other than that, I don’t wish for X hours of my life back, where X is the number of episodes(I can’t remember).

I'm in the camp the show was half good, half bad. The ending being the worst part, since it ended on a sour note, and people really remember the bad.
But the comics were like that... I dont care. It was bad. Not everything in the comics are good. I'm cool with making shit better.
I think the lawyer stuff worked on the show. I thought that was interesting.
Anytime they tried to do super hero stuff it felt flat.
Overall it's like a 5/10 average. It might have been lower but time has faded some things.

While I don't agree with the OP, there were definitely things that weren't great at it.
I didn't think they captured the spirit of the character. Just because the show broke the 4th wall in a similar way to the comics didn't mean that they got everything else right. The court cases took a back seat, there was no light and shade and the Marvel cameos were not done well (Hulk has a bad CGI son now that never comes up again?). They also really leaned on the horrible male fans thing in way that seemed designed to deliberately anger people and generate buzz.
Despite all this, Tatiana was a great She Hulk and an OK Jennifer, Madysynn was amazing and at least 50% of the show was entertaining.

I liked it. Thought the ending was well done. Could have done without the twerking, I suppose. Otherwise, this is a solid Marvel show. I’d 100% rather watch this again than Falcon & Winter Soldier or Secret Invasion. It’s not in my top three, but it’s definitely no where near the button. Mid tier show.

I think people were more prepared for a show that contained a continual story rather than one that was more episodic. It threw people off, especially with the metaness of it all, which a lot of people not familiar with the comics were not prepared for. I would not call it terrible, it was different for sure and definitely contained flaws. It was entertaining in my opinion.

I reckon the finale burnt a lot of…”respect” I guess? Meta jokes and fourth wall breaks are fine, expected of She-Hulk, but there’s a time and a place for that assuming you want to be taken seriously. If the series tells us that the events don’t matter then why care?
I also think the show didn’t really know what it wanted to be. The legal stuff wasn’t of a sufficient quality to satisfy on that count.
This is comparatively minor in terms of screen time but I think it does matter: when a legacy hero shows up, fans want to see the new hero lifted up, not the old hero pushed down. Attorney at Law takes a few swings at Bruce that feel mean-spirited, given his damage. Compare and contrast with the positive reception of Miles in Into the Spider-Verse, where—despite Peter B. Parker being washed up and more than a little rough around the edges—the narrative clearly still respects him, even as it gives Miles narrative space to come into his own as the hero of the movie.

I don't think many people have read the comics and so were not expecting Allie McBeal hulk version, but also because it felt like they decided on the demographic then tried to make a show for them, rather than just making a good show

They had no writing vision for the show, they scrap-booked: wrote a bunch of things and tried to assemble something out of it in the editing room. Raises the price and destroys the quality.
The ham-handed commentary did it absolute no favors either.

Attorney at law but no actual legal cases since the writers didn't know how to write courtroom drama. More girlboss where she was perfect and why she was a better hulk compared to Bruce who was treated as a weak buffoon.

I don't like feminism being reduced to girls rule boys drool.
Nor do I like when traits that are clearly toxic if a man has them, such as womanizing, are farmed as empowering when women do them...
Like we have boys and girls on entirely different standards at this point
To be career driven and focus only on casual sex is a bad character for a man .. for a woman it's something to aspire to.
Other than that it's just a c*** show so clearly designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. I'm not sure why I would expect anything else.
