Why is The Pitt rated higher than the first season of ER?

Posted by Prestigious-Throat46

I feel like the acting and drama is way more natural and less heavy handed in ER. Idk ive tried watching the pitt and it just doesn’t feel like an 8.9/10 it feels to me just like grey’s anatomy.

Omg who cares.  The answer is: ratings are made by humans and don’t factually mean anything.

Not to mention that there are _so_ many factors into a review. Personality of the interviewer, culture, other TV shows, current events, the list goes on. And on top of that the fact that it’s likely a much different set of people reviewing The Pitt than ER

You’re trying to compare shows that premiered 31 years apart. Come on.

Because The Pitt is a modern show, while ER began in ~~1993~~ 1994, long before internet ratings or, well, the internet as it is now, and people don't go back and rate old shows for the most part. That's something people only feel the need to do with current shows.

ER premiered in 1994

Shit, you're right. Nice spotting. Could've sworn it was '93. Makes sense, though. The widescreen futureproofing started up that year, and ER was one of the shows that benefited from it.

Thanks for an actual answer instead of being an ass! That makes a lot of sense

Well, I usually am a d***, but this one was fairly straightforward. People jump to rate new shows, *all* new shows, but rarely go backward to rate any old stuff. Usually the most you get is a watchthrough from a niche website, and that usually happens with sci-fi or fantasy shows as opposed to medical or legal dramas.

Critics like it better. What other response could there possible be?

Prestigious-Throat46 Mar 25, 2026 -53
Lmao i wanna know abt their motives obviously

You want to speculate on the "motives" of a completely different set of people than those who were writing television reviews 3 decades ago?

Bro have u never read a review or watched a video abt movies or tv shows in ur life??

Inevitable-Video-986 Mar 25, 2026 +16
Why are you asking this shit on reddit instead of just reading the reviews to find out why the reviewer liked something?
16
Prestigious-Throat46 Mar 25, 2026 -6
I mean that’s a fair point but jeez im sorry for using the internet freely

Prestigious-Throat46 Mar 25, 2026 -7
Why are you talking to me, “why are you asking this shit on reddit” like that? What was the point. Go outside

Bro, have you ever had something else to spend your time thinking about? Even if you had a proper answer, what difference does it make? We talk about why we love and hate things. Not about why theres a difference in ratings of 2 shows decades apart. Culture has changed... metrics are different. Watch it and enjoy it, or don't. All that matters is if you enjoy it. Not old ratings.

U know what i literally got the information my brain was needing some interaction and feedback in order to put together. Among a dozen ppl immediately telling me im stupid, i did get a few opinions and i wouldn’t have thought about how the reviews are antiquated, which makes me a total dummy 😱😢 thanks for contributing nothing tho!

MuffinMatrix Mar 25, 2026 +8
No one called you a dummy. Stop taking so much offense. Caring about ratings of old shows is stupid, not you. I also answered your question as well, but all you've been reacting to is getting upset. Based on your grammar, spelling, and emojis, guessing you're pretty young.

Prestigious-Throat46 Mar 25, 2026 +2
No one called me a dummy but that’s the tone of most of the replies with rhetorical answers, admittedly yours less.

Dude, welcome to Reddit. You asked a dumb question, you got expected results. No one is purposely mean, just harsh to bad questions.

patricksaurus Mar 25, 2026 +5
You write like that and ask other people if they’ve ever read something?
5
PrimalZed Mar 25, 2026 +4
Did you try reading the reviews?

thatshygirl06 Mar 25, 2026 +4
Comparing it to Grey's is just a bad take. It's nothing like that show and saying this is making me wonder if you actually watched The Pitt

Basically because The Pitt feels more real. It's been called the most realistic Medical show by many Medical professionals. It's R Rating and HBO budget also allows to show certain medical situations in a way a Network show like ER never could.  The Pitt also has a very unique structure for a Medical show.  It's extremely fast paced and intense.  It doesn't waste to much time on the Personal Lives Melodrama of the characters.  It's also just very well written and Directed with well written and well acted characters.

Real in what way. It’s literally a heavy handed speed run through every single social justice issue and everybody gets ketamine and intubated.

Accomplished_Store77 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Real in the way Medical conditions are presented and treated.

To be fair on that, ER was more normal 20+ episodes a season. So much slower pace and more filler. The Pitt is only 10 or whatever eps, and much more fast paced. Just cause they're both shows in an ER with the same actor doesn't make them similar in every way.

Reviews have been modernized where everyone can write a review not just critics.

somewhatboxes Mar 25, 2026 +2
a few weeks ago the prevailing news stories about IMDB were about review-bombing that was messing with the overall ratings of both _Breaking Bad_ and _A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms_. i think you should spend more time thinking about what IMDB ratings represent - like actually represent - rather than obsessing about the numeric scores you get when you visit certain pages.

Having watched both recently, I think that The Pitt is just more compelling… on top of being better lit and more well-produced.  That ER was dark and grainy!

innerShnev Mar 25, 2026 +1
Hey I got this: because the thousands upon thousands of people who reviewed both shows on whatever rating database you're using, on average, gave The Pitt a slightly higher review than people who reviewed ER. That doesn't mean you have to feel that way too, those are just opinions. Hope that helps!

>it feels to me just like grey’s anatomy With an opinion like that, it is hard to take this post seriously. ER and The Pitt is a fair comparison, but this is a dumb take.
1
higzgridz Mar 26, 2026 +1
Because ER is not easy to find to stream

Timely_Temperature54 Mar 25, 2026 +1
Because people liked it more than you did

Because wokes are hyperbolic
-9
innerShnev Mar 25, 2026 +4
Lol "the wokes". What a hyperbolic thing to say
4
boomosaur Mar 25, 2026 -2
Not at all... if anything it undersells the problem.
-2
innerShnev Mar 25, 2026 +4
The literal definition of hyperbolic would disagree with you
4
boomosaur Mar 25, 2026 -4
I don't think you understand what hyperbolic means?
-4
Prestigious-Throat46 Mar 25, 2026 -3
What i was rly waiting for 🫣
-3
innerShnev Mar 25, 2026 +6
Oh poor baby complaining about people being mean to you in the other comments and you really just wanted someone to confirm that one of the shows is too woke? 😆😆😆
6
boomosaur Mar 25, 2026 -4
It's just simply how it is with the wokes... 0 or 10, no room for nuance.
-4
pandarose6 Mar 25, 2026 +2
Maybe judge a show on how good plot is not what political side you think they want and how since you hate the show that must mean they want wrong political group to watch it
2
boomosaur Mar 25, 2026 +1
I don't hate the show... I'm just able to objectively see that wokes will automatically rate it 10 because they aren't capable of nuance. You're actually a good example of what I'm talking about... just because you are aware enough to criticize something doesn't mean you hate it, but for you, it has to be hyperbolic. Either love something all the way 10, or you must hate it 0.
1
pandarose6 Mar 25, 2026 +1
No one rating a show 10/10 just cause there woke just like no one rating it 10/10 if there republican or change them to 0 no one doing it cause of some political group. I haven’t even watched the two shows being named. But stop acting like no one allowed to give 10/10 just like no one allowed to give 0 not everything to do with being woke or republican You’re allowed to rate it anything between 0 and 10 that fine. But stop acting like they rate it based on some political group they are in.
1
boomosaur Mar 25, 2026
Delusionally ignorant, you clearly missed who this show is pandering to.
0
pandarose6 Mar 25, 2026 +1
Your the angry one mad it not to your standards so you say it woke as if that a bad thing. Then judge it on politics instead of plot
1
boomosaur Mar 25, 2026
I'm not angry at all though lol... you're projecting. The plots are literally based on left leaning politics lol.
