Matthew Rhys? I'm in.

And Stephen Root

They will “team up” again, after they both starred in Perry Mason.

Horror_Ad_8149 1 day ago +9
They were both excellent in Perry Mason, and HBO should never have canceled it.

And Justin Kirk (Uncle Andy from Weeds, Jeryd Mencken from Succession) played Hamilton Berger on Perry Mason. It'd be so awesome to have him and Matthew team up again too.

Seconded. Stephen Root should be in more things.

So I looked this up cause I showed the trailer to my friend who is a Stephen Root fan and he’s actually in a f*** ton of things. A lot of voice acting and more minor characters, but his filmography is pretty wild.

"Office Space" and "Barry" are two of my favorites.

He was a Klingon in two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation: Unification I & II, the episodes where Spock finally appeared on the show.

Oh helllllll yeah

Him as "town oddball" is all I needed to read. But If they don't do *something* with a red Swingline, even small or subtle, I'll be disappointed.

Always! I know a lot of people didn’t enjoy The Beast in Me but damn he was great in that! And of course the Americans.

Horror_Ad_8149 1 day ago +7
He was, for lack of a better term, a beast in The Beast In Me. Sly, seductive and incredibly maniacal towards the end.

Horror_Ad_8149 1 day ago +2
If you get a chance to check out Agatha Christie's Towards Zero on Britbox he's amazing in that one as well.

Horror_Ad_8149 1 day ago
Yes he was. Everything he does is brilliant.

F*** it took me years to pronounce Rhys Darby correct and I am now just thinking that Matthew Rhys probably pronounces it the same way.

SynthD 19 hr ago +3
It’s the Welsh spelling of Reece, which is sometimes spelled Reese.
3
Horror_Ad_8149 1 day ago +1
Yes, he does.

His full name is Matthew Rhys Evans. I read that the reason why he goes by Matthew Rhys is because there was another actor named Matthew Evans in the Equity union and he decided to use Rhys as a professional surname so as not to cause confusion between them.

Yeah that's all they had to say, really.

“ In a time when too many shows are content to do the overrated “10-part movie” thing, it’s so great to see one that echoes a structure close to “The X-Files” or “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” with single-episode narratives that add texture to the bigger one.” If this is true, I’m all in!

Hell yea me too! ''Stand alone'' episodes weekly with a few of them dealing with a bigger picture is my personal favorite tv format.

This sounds perfect, I've been missing monster of the week so much.

>The closest thing to it is the unforgettable “Teddy Perkins” episode of “Atlanta” Sold

Makes sense, since it's directed by Hirao Murai

If you really just joined Apple, check out Slow Horses. Its the best spy show. Stars Gary Oldman.

Even better, it has a consistent yearly release schedule.

yeah, sign me up.

I love Slow Horses, which is an adaptation, but generally all the biggest Apple TV highlights are totally original shows with strange premises. That's where they stand out amidst the generation of IPs, prequels, sequels, and adaptations.

NorDub 19 hr ago +9
Silo and Dark Matter are a couple off the top of my head that are also good and adaptions.

Saar13 11 hr ago +1
I also really like those shows. I'm not against adaptations; in fact, I'll definitely watch The Stormlight Archive show and the Mistborn movie trilogy that Apple is making. And it's obvious that established IP is important for a service that's still growing without a content library. My point is that there needs to be a better balance, because TV is too predictable and relies too heavily on expanded universes and established IPs, even on prestigious channels like HBO.

NorDub 10 hr ago +1
I'm all for a good balance, too. And oh wow, I hadn't heard there were mistborn and stormlight shows/movies in the works. I like those books!

Lessons in Chemistry is one of their very best shows too.

They don't get it right all the time but I'm always more interested in an Apple original show that just about anyone else right now.

Saar13 11 hr ago +2
As a service without a library, only with original shows, they grow more slowly, but I think they're closer to their ideal point than ever. I completely understand them acquiring the Cosmere universe, because it could be a big thing for them, but I still believe that total originality, and even strangeness, can be the biggest driver of the brand.

So is this more horror, sci-fi, psychological thriller, dark comedy, or something else! If it’s more X Files than American Horror Story, I think I’m in. Edit: “if Jordan Peele decided to reboot “Northern Exposure.” I watched the trailer and assumed it was Best Medicine+X Files.

Horror_Ad_8149 1 day ago +6
I love Best Medicine. Definitely gives Northern Exposure vibes besides its origins in Doc Martin. Now if Jordan Peele decided to reboot that show and give it a dark, supernatural feel alongside the "case of the week" style typical of medical procedurals, that would be interesting.

Best Medicine is so fun. It took me a couple of episodes to get into the wide range of quirk, but now I love all the characters and get excited to see a new episode is out. Though I think it's done for this season now. Hopefully since it's a network show it gets the full 20+ episodes order next season. The amount of huge infections diseases that town is gonna face next year! It's also a US remake of the British series Doc Martin (the actor plays his father!) which is also great. Slightly more serious than Best Medicine, but the small town quirk is there just the same.

Horror_Ad_8149 9 hr ago +1
I love it. Josh Charles fits the character like a glove. I haven't seen the original series it was based on but I did watch the episode where his dad appears in it and that was very funny and charming. I definitely hope it gets a full season order next year.

> If it’s more X Files than American Horror Story, I think I’m in. A quick look at the cast shows Dale Dickey billed fifth, and she was in an X-Files episode.

Something that always helps me on a bad day is just binging sitcoms. Episode after episode after episode.. not sure why it helps but I rewatch sitcoms all the time.

NGL when I saw the preview the other night, I was all in when I saw Hiro Murai’s name pop up since I am such a big Atlanta fan. I’m not a horror lover but I can leave the lights on for a few nights for Hiro. 😬😬😬
