One state solution, equal rights for all, Palestinian right to return/give back stolen homes, prosecution for Israelis responsible for genocide/war crimes

Here’s a good tool to use: Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, of which Israel joined in 1949 and ratified in 1951.
“No protected person may be punished for an offense he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited. Pillage is prohibited. Reprisals against protected persons and their property are prohibited.”

What do you think about more separation of church and state? Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had arguments or issues with the state of Israel, and it’s immediately construed as anti-semitism to counterpoint any issues with the state itself. When it has nothing to do with Judaism and everything to do with a corrupt and evil government. But it seems like I can never make an in road because it’s just “nah anti-Zionism = antisemitism”. What do you do in that situation? Sorry if this a weird question it’s just something I notice again and again.

Would read what some antizionist jewish groups, such as JVP or IJAN, have to say on the matter. It's simply not antisemitic to oppose genocide, ethnic cleansing, war crimes, and apartheid! And that is what Zionism stands for by treating Palestinians as less than human with unequal rights (read human rights orgs' reports like from Amnesty International or Btselem on apartheid, occupation, Nakba, genocide in Palestine if you need specific evidence to point to).

Would you think Palestinians are due reparations in this hypothetical version of Israel? Not just restoring their lands taken by settlers.

Yes, of course. Addressing any genocide/ethnic cleansing campaign requires reparations

Idrk if it's optimism but rather the most likely to succeed solution for a conflict whose geography has shifted since Bill Clinton's presidency. A two state solution based on those borders would require the forced exodus of around 800,000 settlers. For context, the removal of settlers in Gaza numbered around 8000, and even that took 4 months. Additionally, the damage done to Palestinian agriculture, infrastructure, and economy is immense and something Israel as a separate state would do its' best to avoid paying for.
A secular one state solution with equal rights, outside security coordination, and a political structure similar to the one set up in Bosnia and Herzegovina is probably the most immediate solution for a at-least semi-lasting peace. This would also mean that fixing the damage done by Israel would be in the interest of this new state for reconciliatory and economic reasons.

What you just described is no where near scope at the moment, hence optimism.

Why when it comes to regime change in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba that the left is deathly afraid that the alternative will be somehow worse than their current authoritarian regime yet dismantling Israel for a singular Arab dominanted state will magically work out?

It seems very much like you’re not arguing in good faith here, but as a progressive, I’m against our government violently overthrowing regimes and having no plan in place (see our policy in the Middle East for my entire lifetime, much of South America for the last century plus). No one on the left that I’ve spoken to advocates for the violent removal of Bibi and his government. Rather, most of us think that a new government should be given a chance to flourish following the establishment of a new, non-ethnostate. I would have just as much of a problem with our government abducting or executing Bibi as I did with Maduro and the Ayatollah
1
bootlegvaderApr 1, 2026
+1
How do you think the idea of a one state solution occurring where Israel is dismantled happens?
The left often complains about those regimes facing sanctions, so it is more than just opposing military action.
1
doctordoctorpussApr 1, 2026
+1
The Israeli government needs to be dismantled. Enforced Jewish majority in the land currently claimed by Israel needs to be dismantled. Ideally, Bibi and his goons get tried at The Hague for a truly monumental number of war crimes. I think until these goals are accomplished, at a minimum, the US should immediately cease all military funding to Israel. Humanitarian aid is fine, particularly if the groups distributing it have been vetted to make sure they’re not Zionist groups rationing aid. For other aspects of reforming the government, look to South Africa after they ended apartheid
Sanctions are kind of a mixed bag. Generally the people hurt by sanctions are the least privileged people in the society, so sanctions against Israel would likely hit Palestinian refugees the hardest, and I don’t want to see that
1

So you want to do regime change. Now do you support the same for the various Islamic or leftist states? Like Iran and Pakistan?
1
doctordoctorpussApr 1, 2026
+1
Jesus Christ. Do you have an issue with reading comprehension? I’m not saying “I want the US to replace the Israeli government”. I’m saying, if everything shook out the way I wanted it to, Bibi and the other criminals in his government would be arrested, face due process, and be jailed for their war crimes. The US wouldn’t be involved in any of that. I want the regime to change, I don’t want my government to go in and do it. As far as removing our financial support of them, if we were doing that with Iran or Pakistan, I’d also want to remove financial support for them. But we don’t, and obviously you know that. The US should not be in the business of taking out other countries’ leadership, full stop

You can support a two-state solution and also recognize Israel has no interest in moving towards that right now, and needs extraordinary outside pressure to reconsider that stance.

Agreed! It will take a long time and a lot of effort to de-radicalize its government and its population. We’ll also have to beat MAGA first.

I don't think it's MAGA - they are split on this. It's zionist elites - they buy whoever can be bought -- and TRUMP has been bought -- even sponsored (if you read into his associations from Epstein files).

Here's the thing....Israel needed Trump to win, and they used every lever they could, and finally it was the [pro-Palestinian protesters that tipped the scales and allowed Trump to win.](https://www.thebulwark.com/p/pro-palestinian-activists-gave-trump-boost-no-2024-regrets-biden-harris-gaza-israel)
Every single "Genocide Joe" tweet helped Trump and helped Israel. It's predictable exploitation of American liberals and Israel will 100% support America's left to attack other democrats so maga republicans can continue to win

You could also say it was every bomb, every dollar that Genocide Joe supplied to Israel that tipped the scales. Many of us were screaming from the rooftops that this would cause Trump to win. We were abused and drowned out by voices like yours. Lesson learned? Doubt it.

Seems like there is a way that the Democrats could have countered this plot by Israel and MAGA to turn their own voters against them.

I don't hate voting third party for the precedent of parties not just having to be less bad, even specifically on Palestine, but it's so illogical to say Trump winning was worth it for Palestine when things are now worse for Palestine as well as us.

I'm sure hoping the rest of the caucus won't let themselves be goaded by Ana Kasparian. Things are looking bleak. Progressives have a Nazi tattoo guy running for Senate and a right-wing podcaster apparently calling the shots for their star AOC. It seems like it's all coming together now.

Israel is currently committing genocide. I don't think AOC was goaded by Ana but moreso had quality conversations with DSA folks and has been following as Israel has ramped up its horrific bombing of Iran and Lebanon, as well as continuing to kill and oppress Palestinians. Not a turn towards Nazism, a waking up to fascist reality and being willing to fight against it materially

I disagree. The right-left commingling has been getting worse online and it's scary to see that reflected by a popular elected politician and a Senate hopeful. That stuff should be nipped in the bud.
