It’s actually not bad. Have watched both seasons.

Honestly I may check it out eventually, my girlfriend and I pretty much only have two moods when it comes to watching tv/movies, horror and children’s media, so it’s surprising this has never been advertised to me…I’m on the Disney+ app like every 3 days or so

My wife and I do the same. In the last year, we have worked our way through pretty much every DCOM that we enjoyed as kids, Drake and Josh, iCarly, Hannah Montana, and Phineas and Ferb. There’s just something comforting about these old stupid shows.

BigfootEatsBabys Apr 2, 2026 +7
I remember loving the drake and josh movie as a kid lol shit was heat

As a 50yo dude raised on Looney Tunes and Hannah-Barbara cartoons, Phineas and Ferb is freaking awesome. I would have loved that show in my Saturday morning lineup.

That's me too pretty much.

p-Star_07 Apr 2, 2026 +14
Its pretty good. Its basically the same humor as the OG.

The_Throwback_King Apr 2, 2026 +16
David Henrie steps back into the role of Justin and it’s JUST like old times. You can just feel the passion and he’s clearly a great steward and colleague with all of the new faces. As someone who finds a lot of Disney Channel’s child actors nowadays kinda hokey, the new actors they got for Justin and >!Alex’s!< kids are actually pretty talented. Not surprised Akielo Thiele (who plays Justin’s eldest and most neurotic kid) ended up getting castto voice Gumball in the The Amazing World of Gumball revival series, because his line delivery in the Wizards show fits perfectly with the chaotic energy that Gumball provides Very cozy show and very nostalgic as someone who grew up on the OG show

Four episodes count as a season now? Just make it a TV movie at that point.

Membership-Bitter Apr 2, 2026 +193
It has become a recent thing where for strange legal reasons shows can't do tv movies. Like the upcoming 4 part malcolm in the middle reunion was originally a movie but was split into 4 episodes due to rights issues. Same with the recent Marvel Zombies show.
193
ItsADeparture Apr 2, 2026 +64
I don't think it's a case of rights issues for this or Malcolm. It's only a rights issue for Marvel Zombies because Marvel can't use Spider-Man on TV if the runtime is over an hour.
64
HartfordWhalers123 Apr 2, 2026 +16
That and if they had made Marvel Zombies into a movie, they’d have to get approval from Sony first to use Spidey.
16
Membership-Bitter Apr 2, 2026 +10
Just repeating what was said by Frankie Muniz in an interview last year
10
mcon96 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Yeah and they already did a tv movie for the original Wizards of Waverly Place finale, so they should definitely have the rights. It’s probably just so the reboot stream he’s across 4 weeks instead of 1. Could be because of 1 Month Free promotions.

DebraBaetty Apr 2, 2026 +65
Malcolm in the Middle is gonna be four f****** episodes?
65
Membership-Bitter Apr 2, 2026 +85
Yes, as it is a one off reunion rather than a full reboot like Scrubs. Again they wanted it to be a movie but had to split it into 4 25 minute episodes
85
clydefrog811 Apr 2, 2026 +13
F****** lame as hell
13
corndogs102 Apr 2, 2026 +41
To be fair for a reunion/reboot I’d rather get 4 solid episodes than 20 lackluster episodes with a few solid ones sprinkled in there.
41
unitedfan6191 Apr 2, 2026 +9
But Scrubs has 9 episodes in season 10, so you can have all 9 be solid episodes because that doesn’t seem like too many.
9
corndogs102 Apr 2, 2026 +12
Scrubs is a big exception tbf
12
Membership-Bitter Apr 2, 2026 +9
Scrubs is doing 9 episodes as they are planning it to be a yearly show and this is the test run. MitM is just a one off as Bryan Cranston wanted to be Hal one more time. That was the main driving force. He even took years to get the show's creator to ok the reunion as he wasn't interested. A solid chunk of the cast don't really act anymore.
9
TimeisaLie Apr 2, 2026 +1
So you've watched the Scrubs reboot?
1
corndogs102 Apr 2, 2026 +6
A rare RARE exception.
6
mlavan Apr 2, 2026 +11
it's a backdoor pilot/reboot. if it's any good, there will be a larger episode order. just like the scrubs reboot.
11
Alertcircuit Apr 2, 2026 +9
Maaaaaybe. Frankie Muniz is a NASCAR driver now. If they bring it back as a full thing I'm not sure he and all the rest of the old cast will sign on. It might have to be like a That 90s show type deal where Malcolm's kid is living with Hal/Lois or Francis/Piama or something.
9
mlavan Apr 2, 2026 +11
None of these shows are ever going to be getting 23 episode orders ever again. I don't think Frankie will have to worry about his schedule that much ever again. If it were ever to get order for more eps, I would bet the number of episodes would be like 8-12
11
FX114 Apr 2, 2026 +3
They specifically said it would center on his daughter instead.
3
monarch_j Apr 2, 2026 +11
I know nothing, but I wonder if it has something to do with streaming. There used to be two clearly defined distribution channels: theaters then DVD, or Network channels. Now, since everything goes to streaming, it's almost like a TV movie can't exist, it's just a movie at that point.
11
Membership-Bitter Apr 2, 2026 +6
That is possible. It would explain why all the direct to disney+ mcu movies are branded as "special presentations" instead
6
potatochipsbagelpie Apr 2, 2026 +3
I think Gilmore Girls ran into this. That’s why the reunion season was branded differently
3
Drizzy_THAkid Apr 2, 2026 +2
I believe marvel zombies was due to Spider-Man and certain characters
2
p-Star_07 Apr 2, 2026 +8
Just like Owl House only season 3 of that show is 3 40 minute specials.
8
MostlyBored11 Apr 2, 2026 +13
Yeah or call it a limited series or something but that's not a season at all lol
13
DebraBaetty Apr 2, 2026 +5
At all!! Do words mean nothing anymore?!
5
Corrie-luv_ Apr 2, 2026 +3
Not the first time it’s happened with a Disney show; it follows the same fate with The Owl House, another show that happened to contain magical fantasy elements too. The real question is *how long* the runtimes will be for these episodes~ Either way, I’m looking forward to Keyan Carlile’s coverage of this announcement and the finale~

superfruitbowls Apr 2, 2026 +2
Keyan Carlile mention!

Riverdale87 Apr 2, 2026 +1
British television does the same thing

JamStan1978 Apr 2, 2026 +120
So its basically a 4 part finale and not really another season? Why not just make it a dcom? I was honestly hoping for a better reboot. One directed towards adults with the original creator back and all the og main characters back as adults.
120
p-Star_07 Apr 2, 2026 +67
An adult Wizards of Waverly Place doesn't sound very good. Its supposed to be light hearted and campy.
67
JamStan1978 Apr 2, 2026 +23
It can still be light hearted and campy while being an adult show. I just mean a show made specifically for the fans of the original show. Have more mature storytelling and writing, more complex stories and character arcs.
23
TheJoshider10 Apr 2, 2026 +13
Yeah that's the weird thing with some sequel series. They're clearly made *because of* the original fans, but then they try to have their cake and eat it by not evolving the show to match the age of those original fans now. They're aiming it for the younger generation, while having the baggage of the past, in which case they'd be better off just doing a full reboot. I really appreciated what that Lizzie McGuire revival was going to do. I didn't want to see something child friendly, because it wouldn't be children interested in Lizzie McGuire. It's a shame Disney had cold feet, but this was when they were aiming Disney+ to be squeaky clean whereas nowadays (think it was after the Fox merger) they're happy embracing different tones and content.
13
SJ966 Apr 2, 2026 +2
They didn’t seem to care about the continuity or spirit of the original all that much. Justin married a mortal and got to keep his powers which retroactively undermines his parents love story. Alex also was not written as the type of person who would have a kid shortly after high school either. She was written like she would grow up to be a fun whine aunt(obviously without any alcohol references since it’s a Disney Show)
2
p-Star_07 Apr 2, 2026 +1
Continuity errors are in the spirit of the original because they had them all the time.
1
p-Star_07 Apr 2, 2026 +1
I don't know man. I am not prude but I like certain properties because they are wholesome.
1
TheJoshider10 Apr 2, 2026 +4
I think something can be both mature and wholesome. Shrinking is probably one of the most upbeat and saccharine shows on TV right now and it also has some of the heaviest subjects explored including grief, depression and suicide. It's all about tone and execution.
4
p-Star_07 Apr 2, 2026 -1
Wizards of Waverly Place doing that sounds out of place.
-1
JamStan1978 Apr 2, 2026 +1
They already did some of this in the original but couldnt fully tackle it since it was a kids show.
1
p-Star_07 Apr 2, 2026 +1
I remember some of the episode but not all. What more adult topics do you think it tackled?
1
coatimundos Apr 2, 2026 +6
Ehh Alex has much more potential as a character if they’re allowed to write tv plot lines for adults.
6
p-Star_07 Apr 2, 2026 +2
I know but ehh... Then again the more adult iCarly is alright but not as good as the original.
2
coatimundos Apr 2, 2026 +6
That show needed Sam. I know why Jeanette s not up for it, but of all the characters she’d be the best fit for an adult setting.
6
p-Star_07 Apr 2, 2026 +3
No that's not the issue. They toned down the absurdist humor of the original and exchanged it for a more deadpan tone. Its not bad just different. I only saw a bit of season 1 except for 1 episodw. Then again I skipped to season 2 and saw the episode where Lewbert sued the iCarly gang and I was dying of laughter all the way through it so maybe it got better as it went.
3
rickroll10000 Apr 2, 2026 +3
I'd bump it to TV-14
3
Locke108 Apr 2, 2026 +1
Sounds like the later seasons of Charmed.
1
Zorkel567 Apr 2, 2026 +23
I’m glad we’re getting an ending anyways but disappointed to only get four more episodes. They never gave the show the time to grow like the original
23
Tenoch_12 Apr 2, 2026 +8
Wasn't as popular that's why
8
Redhotlipstik Apr 2, 2026 +27
Didn't Alex Russo straight up die at the end of the last season
27
Draw-Two-Cards Apr 3, 2026 +4
No not at all really. A bunch of people made click bait about it so everyone who didn't watch it believe she died for no real reason. She is basically in another dimension, Clearly was set up for season 3 being to save her, I don't think the show ever made it out that she was even potentially dead.
4
GlamMetalLion Apr 2, 2026 +9
Actors who´ve been for years in a multicamera show directing an episode happens relative commomnly. Peyton List directed an episode of Bunk´d, for instance. Phill Lewis often directed for Jessie, and some Disney Channel sitcoms were directed by network sitcom veterans, like Alfonso Ribeiro.
9
Doc-11th Apr 2, 2026 +7
Wow they really did not care about thay show From a full season To a half season To 4 episodes Might as well just make it a movie
7
MidnightStalk Apr 2, 2026 +4
If they’re going to end this they need to bring back Jake T. Austin to reprise his role as Max.
4
ExultantSandwich Apr 2, 2026 +5
He stole furniture from the set of The Fosters, he’s blacklisted lmao
5
masterz13 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Problem with these reboots is that it's hard to please the old and new audiences at the same time. It's why we never got the Lizzie McGuire reboot even though they advertised it and had even started filming -- Hilary Duff wanted a modern, adult version and Disney said no.
4
njb021 Apr 2, 2026 +7
Hopefully Max, Harper, and Mason appear
7
corndogs102 Apr 2, 2026 +4
I know why Harper isn’t in the reboot but she needs to make some kind of appearance
4
coatimundos Apr 2, 2026 +3
Why isn’t she?
3
Rock_mage Apr 2, 2026 +6
Drama IIRC.
6
Wheres_MyMoney Apr 2, 2026 +4
What about Zeke, the gay O******* model?
4
galaxyadmirer Apr 2, 2026 +3
It had a season 2?
3
sixpumppain Apr 3, 2026 +2
“The revival has been a hit for Disney” then why end it with season three, and only give it four episodes. The original show had four full seasons, a TV movie, and a special that aired in 2013, I believe. I understand that things have changed significantly since I was a child. Cable TV is largely obsolete, and there are an unlimited amount of content to consume fighting for everyone’s attention. However, didn’t some more recent disney channel shows manage to get five or more seasons? It would have been fantastic to see this as a more mature-oriented show aimed at children who grew up with the original series, like me, who are now young adults. The show would have retained the same multi-camera format and sets, serving as a direct sequel to the story of Alex, Max, and Justin in their adult lives. However, I would like to see Alex continue to serve as a mentor to the protagonist of the current show. Also, semi-related please bring back Halloween town.

GlassjawIsGreat Apr 2, 2026 +1
Is Chad Farthouse going to rejoin the cast??
1
Doc-11th Apr 2, 2026 +1
If not done right, that is going to make resolution to the cliffhanger really rushed
1
Necessary-Reason-388 Apr 2, 2026 +1
what’s bugging me is why are they ending it after just 35 episodes? I mean it does well with ratings and the ma kid actors, other than Alkaio, don’t have much scheduling issues right now and even then most of alkaio’s is voice acting. someone please explain to me why one of the most successful tv reboots in history is getting cancelled this early on?
1
ShutupGustov Apr 3, 2026 +1
Likely because it's not one of the most successful tv reboots in history and isn't getting the viewership you think it's getting.
1
_pinkstripes_ Apr 3, 2026 +1
They're rebooting shows that were new when I wasn't young anymore
1
biscuitcat22 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Is this the one with Chad Farthouse?
1
TheSwampThing1990 Apr 3, 2026 +1
I kinda of wish it hadn't got picked up only because that would have meant they killed Alex
1
Carouselcolours Apr 3, 2026 +1
Oof, this headline basically spoils how the season is gonna end 🙃🙃🙃
1
ymcameron Apr 2, 2026 +1
I tried watching some of this, and I don’t want to be a "things used to be better" guy, but it really is absolutely terrible compared to the original. Wizards wasn’t exactly Shakespeare, but it was a lot of fun and had decent enough writing. This new one just felt soulless and bland.
1
SantaCruznonsurfer Apr 2, 2026
this show was so good. I'm glad the reboot (Continuation?) has the same pizzazz.
