At the point where you are willing to grift from total strangers, aware that many of your targets will be poor, or lower middle class, you've already gone past any shred of decency. You're trying to get people who have less money than you to give you money so you can buy things you like (or so you can buy the same things, but work less hours). That's already scum of the earth, and if you're already that low, HOW you go about promoting your scam is irrelevant - especially to you. Every story, every tragedy, every highlight reel - they're all just opportunities to rebrand your scam for another round of profit. We honestly need harsher laws and penalties regarding financial scams. Because many of them ruin the lives of their victims. So, IMHO, anyone found guilty of them has their wages garnished down to $20,000/year for the rest of their lives, and is on permanent probation with an ankle monitor. Or at least until all the people they took advantage of are paid back WITH interest and inflation accounted for. And any person or company hiring them is required to pay them a normal wage for the work they are doing (to prevent them from just going to work for a family member who pays them $20k/year on the books only). They tried to ruin peoples' lives. There is no reason not to completely ruin their life financially.

I think the distinction is more related to land/water than just land animals. The Greenland shark apparently has a lifespan of some 300+ years, and the oldest one was recently (IIRC) discovered to be 500-odd years old and still kicking (well, swimming, I guess). But yes, as far as is currently known, Jonathan is the oldest living terrestrial animal.

Reality is so weird. A tortoise, born before the invention of anything digital or electronic, is having some d***** try a crypto scam by claiming he's dead on the Internet. Camus was right about everything. You just gotta laugh and go with it.

I have met Johnathan. 30 years ago. My wife and I were sailing around the world and made a stop at St Helena. He had a very ancient and wise aura around him.
