Would you all actually support a mobile and moving taco truck?

Posted by jerseydevil95

I've seen memes asking taco trucks to drive around like ice cream trucks in the summer and I'd actually like to know would you support them if they did. Bonus - let me know what's your go to taco order. I like to get asada tacos and al pastor tacos. 2-3 each with both red and green sauce.

Back in 2008 before food trucks blew up, yes. Back then they were c****, now every food truck charges the same prices as a brick and mortar shop.

yeah that is the sad part they used to be the budget option, now it is basically the same price with less seating 😅 still love the vibe tho, just not the bill.

Weird, I’ve had the exact opposite experience. The first food trucks I experienced back then were gimicky and super expensive. Now the food trucks are where I find the best deals.

Play mariachi music instead of ice cream truck jingles (but still also sell ice cream) and have a tía onboard with those sick homemade tamales you can only buy out of a parking lot.

Bro I had some tamales once from this lady in a parking lot of a Kroger and it was the best ones I've ever had. I haven't seen her since and I'm so devastated.

I wanna experience a woman in a parking lot selling tamales. Where I’m from there are mostly Cubans and Puerto Ricans. I’ve never experienced home made tamales and I’ve heard stories.

I'm in TX and it is extremely common here. Sometimes they'll even go door to door and sell. I know in NY I'd buy Puerto Rican pasteles by word of mouth.

Back in the 90s there was an ice cream truck that roamed our neighborhood after the bars let out. They sold greasy hotdogs, breakfast sausages, ice cream, and bootleg Selena t-shirts.

Yes for sure, if it had a regular route. Like if I knew it comes through my neighborhood every Thursday evening around the same time, I’d plan on it for dinner. And I like carne asada tacos and chicken quesadillas. I do like to have the option of things like cheese, pico, and sour cream for my tacos even if it’s not traditional.

yeah, i’d absolutely buy from that….probably too often, which is honestly the real risk here. taco truck roaming the neighborhood sounds like one of those things everyone jokes about until it exists and suddenly nobody’s cooking on thursdays. my usual order is al pastor and one random taco i regret or love.

Yes, definitely. Especially, if you put the areas you’d be driving in on social media, so I could plan on that for dinner. Carne asada, shrimp, and al pastor. Both red and green sauce.

I like the tacos when the shell is extra light and crispy. Or the double decker taco. It pairs well with the Mexican pizza. At home I just do Chinese burritos.

What are Chinese burritos?

It's a fajita burrito with short grain brown rice and Chinese sauce.

Some food trucks sorta do this. They’ll move to different locations throughout the day. Which I think is smart. The lunch guys probably aren’t coming back for dinner.

There used to be a taco truck we'd see occasionally on the way to Yosemite on climbing trips, maybe between Escalon and Manteca. If we'd see it, we'd stop. Pretty sure I'd get 3 small pork tacos. Really good.

Hell yes. And feel free to park your truck in front of my house.

Theres a lot more moving parts to a truck that has to cook its food fresh, vs a truck that just needs to keep things refrigerated. Maybe a good compromise would be a tamale truck where its all made in advance and just kept heated?

A taco truck can do that. I doubt many of them are cooking proteins on the truck, save seafood or steak. I’m a carnitas/pastor guy.

most places are cooking their meats pretty fresh, thats why food trucks all have full gas griddles and stuff, which if you're driving constantly will be jostling and bumping around in a way which probably wouldn't be great. Al Pastor might be easier but the giant rotating meat blob would still be quite hefty and if that fell over or got knocked out of alignment it would be rough

I speak from experience, having driven and cooked on a taco truck with a flattop, and all the proteins were made in a kitchen. We wrapped them and secured them, as you do. We didn’t do pastor, granted. Ps- how do you know what most places are doing?

Ice cream is an anytime treat. Tacos are a dedicated meal. Most people want to eat a meal at a scheduled time, not spur of the moment as a truck comes by.

Unless of course it’s a college town right after the bars close…..

As long as cilantro is optional.
