You are given a budget of $500 Million. What movie are you making?

Posted by HowMany_MoreTimes

You are given a budget of $500 Million to produce a movie (you don't need to use it all). You have access to any shooting location and any talent you want. What genre of movie are you making? Who are you hiring as lead writer (or are you writing yourself?) Who is your; Director? Male Lead? Female Lead? Male supporting actor(s)? Female supporting actor(s)? Edit: You don't get to keep any of the money, you greedy individuals!

A sequel for Master and Commander with the exact same cast and crew.

Well, it's a theme in the books that Maturin is telling Aubrey all the time to loose weight. Crow would still fir nicely in the role.
39
Rub-Specialist Mar 24, 2026 +18
Russell Crowe isn’t fitting into anything these days, but he can still act
18
Mega_Nidoking Mar 24, 2026 +8
Idk, he kinda killed it as Zeus, imo

I don’t think the Royal Navy made uniforms in Russell Crowe’s current size.

That film literally saved my life. The day after I rented the DVD, I was driving through heavy weather in Sussex (England). Stopped to turn right on a woodland road and heard the unmistakable sound of a mast falling. Looked to my left and saw a huge Douglas fir about to come down on top of me. Had just enough time to reverse out of the path of the trunk. I mean to write to the sound designer at some point and thank him. He went on to do Nolan’s films.

Dredd - parts 2 & 3 give me a mixture of America, The dark Judges and The Apocalypse War in both parts. Get Urban back, Garland to write and direct, Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury to do the score for this one

The only creative decisions necessary are that George Miller is the director and Margaret Sixel the editor.
22

The only creative decision I'd make is as many practical effects as possible. Otherwise let George miller cook.

I'd ask him kindly to make a Bioshock movie
315
LegoC97 Mar 24, 2026 +131
Del Toro making a Bioshock movie has been my #1 movie dream pairing for almost 20 years now. Also, writing '20 years' just now made me physically sick.
131
feelinuneasy1234 Mar 24, 2026 +40
I'll also throw it at Del Toro and have him make Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune
40

I'm throwing it at Del Toro as well, but it's Benicio. And we're making a movie about the attorney from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Disney is so f****** stupid for not making more muppets classics remakes. I feel like the lesson they took from the last movie bombing was no one will pay for the muppets. Not true! I would see almost any classic novel done in muppet form in theaters week one
28
willstr1 Mar 24, 2026 +5
I still think they are idiots for not doing Muppet remakes instead of the live action remakes. If the goal is securing the IP then it still gets that done, if the goal is cashing in on nostalgia then why not cash in on double nostalgia (Disney classic nostalgia plus Muppet nostalgia).
5
billtrociti Mar 24, 2026 +5
I would love a Muppets remake of Les Misérables!
5
TimedDelivery Mar 24, 2026 +16
YES. YES! I was against Miss Piggy as Fix at first but the more I think about it the more it makes total sense. You just need Aouda, maybe Simone Ashley if you wanted to go human? I’d also suggest Fozzie as Sir Francis Cromarty and Sam the Eagle as the captain of that ship they have to chop up into pieces near the end. Goddamn I’m so invested in this idea now, damn you!
16
SammathNaur1600 Mar 24, 2026 +14
The last Muppets movie cost about 70 mil in today's money, so you can make a few! Gullivers Travels The time machine Wind in the Willows!!! Count of Monte Cristo Three musketeers Moby D*** Journey to the center of the earth I think even big epics could do with a Muppets flair. Lotr, and Narnia come to mind.
14
TipProfessional880 Mar 24, 2026 +5
Someone a while back said that they wanted to see a Muppets Knives out movie with Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc. Genius.

.........Goddamn. No notes. This is it. My suggestion was a tyler-perry-style Oedipus Rex, but a muppets-style 'round the world in 80 is just.... Chefs kiss.  I could maybe see a Muppets version of Mad Mad Mad Mad World, but, no, no, this is it.
5
GosmeisterGeneral Mar 24, 2026 +342
I start my own low budget horror studio. First 10 million is on finding the best producers and execs. Spend $200 million on 10 x $20 million movies, build a bunch of franchises and directors careers that will return on my investment first. Find the new Jordan Peele etc. Then when we’re at our height, conquering the world, we drop the big one… And spend ALL the remaining money on an endless string of Pope’s Exorcist sequels where Russell Crowe’s accent gets progressively more and more ridiculous, so by Pope’s Exorcist XIII: Amorth in Space, he’s practically just screaming nonsensical gibberish.
342
faultysynapse Mar 24, 2026 +50

Neill Blomkamp Sequel to district-9
155
Faltenreich Mar 24, 2026 +32
Do you think he can pull it off? District 9 may be his lightning in a bottle. I liked Elysium and some of Oats Studios, but they felt far from the genius of District 9 and his output seems very hit-or-miss.

Back Door S**** 9.

troublrTRC Mar 24, 2026 +62
There are variations of it, but the true spirit of it has never been captured.
62
NikonShooter_PJS Mar 24, 2026 +40
Honestly at this point I think the proper move is to reboot the series. Maybe a tv show to explore the lore and backstory? Like, by the time we get to the ninth film, we know that they’re back door s**** but what made them backdoor s****? Where did their paths begin? Make it like Better Call Saul and really explore the backstory of the backdoor s**** before we see where their new adventures take them.
40
IllHaveTheLeftovers Mar 24, 2026 +13
Nooo enough reboots, Hollywood! Try something new! I vote for a look into the next stage of life of the original backdoor s****. Sluttery as a lifestyle is something most accessible by the young 18-25 crowd - but what about the next stage of their lives? How do the backdoor s**** lives evolve, as backdoor s**** but also as academics, business owners, mothers? Maybe one of them becomes a successful pornstar? Another, perhaps an astronaut. But I want to see how their backdoor sluttery is expressed through their vocations and lives.

Yeah, I was going to say The Gunslinger, but this time JUST the Gunslinger and let's not try to cram a huge 7-part epic into a 90 minute fartfest (although Elba and McConaughey were fantastic in their roles, just a really bad script)
9
buckeye27fan Mar 24, 2026 +8
The weird thing about DT is that IF it's true to the books, I don't think it will have much appeal outside of people that are already fans of DT. The books are so tonally different at times - it's similar to the Ender series in that aspect. I'd love to see it, but I think there would be quite a few changes to make the story flow better.

**Jurassic Park as a survival horror film.** I get **John Krasinski to direct** with some B-list actors/actresses, giving them a chance to shine. I want the **real stars to be the dinosaurs**. I'd want to bring in **Legacy Effects Studio (formerly Stan Winston Studio**) to build **animatronics** to work alongside light CGI (where needed). I want the dinos to have weight to them. I feel like this combination could create a tension filled Dinosaur horror survival film. Think about the energy of **"A Quiet Place" but with dinosaurs instead of aliens and less "quiet" more primal, guttural roars.** No actor is safe and maybe none of them get out. The dinosaurs ARE the star. If not a direct Jurassic Park reboot following the novel (we're getting the Nedry scene in all it's gory details) but less adventure/sci-fi PG-13 and more R rated horror/survival then it could move to Site B (where JP2 and JP3 take place) and follow the events of what happened there. Maybe a crew of fresh faces arrive for their first day not knowing it's been shutdown. Maybe it's crew that are lagging behind. Could be travelers discovering the island for the first time shortly after the shutdown. That is my dream.

He has wanted to take a stab at halo for a decade He was even going to work on taking it out of script hell till MS went with paramount for some stupid f****** reason and ruined it. it's his favorite game apparently and is a huge fan he prob do it for free There is also a Lot of lore already laid down a lot of the work is done for u. First port of call..WETA does the practical effects ILM does the Visuals a and all the practical effects will be done by rising storm Make it looks real and gritty. Problem is i don't know who i would want as chief.

Laugh at me if you want, but I'd want to do a real time gone by sequel to The Last Starfighter. Not overly certain of the plot, but I know I'd want Alex Rogan to have had at least two offspring, one for the Star League and one who turned traitor and went to fight for the Ko-Dan empire. Outside of a movie, more towards a series, I'm desperate to see a well made rendition of both Jim Butcher's Dresden Files and Laurrell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series. Afterthought; the original Dragonlance trilogy.

Sequel to “Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves”… with all the original team. Job done. Edit to add: Or an Akira live action movie. 3-6 movies based on the original manga (use the 6 volume re-release)… shot panel to panel. Unknown Japanese actors. Based in Japan. Villeneuve to direct. Bring that shit to life. Borrow some tech from Rodriguez to really sell it (he did an epic job with Sin City)… and Andy Circus for the mutant/psychic kids. Shoot it all in one session so there’s not cast ageing. Release 1 movie per year. Use the gains from the first movie to fund the CGI for the later ones. Ensure exceptional dubbing is available for western audiences. Job done.

Homeland, The Legend of Drizzt No Lore dumps. We show, we don't tell. We are going in hot with assassinations and an attempted hostile take over of one dark elf house by another in the underground city of Menzoberranzan. I would hire professionals to do the casting, I might need a bunch of talented but relatively unknown young black actors to play dark elves and the lead must agree to do a trilogy and I wouldn't know where to start. Writing is similar, I'd be leaning hard on the novel but it still needs to be adapted into a movie so I'd just hire whomever is good at that. Director: Peter Jackson (Lord of the rings trilogy) There would probably be an unfortunate amount of green screen required but at least everyone can read the book and understand the creative vision we are going for. Probably have to make a quick budget animated story board type thing so we all understand the angles and stuff before we start. This is the same world, forgotten realms, as Baldur's Gate 3. I think there's an audience for this.

At first I was going to say Dune: Part 5, to adapt God Emperor of Dune in all its slithery glory. Although I still will choose this, Jodorowski's Dune would've been an ambitious project I would like to see fulfilled.

Yep and that includes reanimating Salvador Dali's corpse to play the emperor

Gotta be sci-fi, kinda torn between ***Gateway*** (1977) and ***Footfall*** (1985) ... but ... I'd really like ***Collier's Man Will Conquer Space Soon!*** (1952) as the basis of the visual design, tech details and narrative about building the rockets, space station and three-ship mission to the Moon. Actually, I'd prefer the project to be a 10-episode streaming series instead of a movie. Also, since I don't need to make a profit - put it on ***TUBI*** with no commercials. Also it goes into public domain as soon as the last episode airs. I'll take a $10 million producer salary and blow the rest on the project. No established celebs. Time to make/break a cast of nobodys.

I've always wanted an R-Rated Alladin - I think Jafar would be an excellent twisted f of a villain if you let him loose. Count Of Monte Cristo---- like one that really comprehensively covers the whole story. And for those wondering how either of those could use up $500M.... well if an ad Campaign in front of Mt Rushmore can run $200M, I can figure out how to use 500M for one of my ideas.

Check out Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier. It’s an adult themed stage play of the Aladdin story told from the perspective of the villain. Kind of like the equivalent of Wicked for the Wizard of Oz.

I’ve always wondered why Rick Rescorla never got a movie. There’s a documentary about him but his story is almost beyond belief. [His Wiki, for those who don’t know about him.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Rescorla) It sounds like an obvious choice but it could be right in Christopher Nolan’s ballpark. A British paratrooper who decides to join the Americans in Vietnam (I’m glossing over his exploits there), becoming an American citizen. With Nolan’s fascination with playing with chronology you have the day of 9/11 where all of Rescorla’s experience came to a head and he saved thousands of lives, i can imagine the switching between different events. Not sure about casting as it would need different aged actors to play Rescorla in different era’s.

I’d have to find someone who knew what the hell they were doing and hire them to make most of the decisions, I’d stay in a creative director role, but it’d be a fantasy series based on the 3 books making the Riftwar Saga by Raymond Feist (Magician, Silverthorn, A Darkness At Sethanon). It’s swords and sorcery type stuff, and we just don’t get much of that.

I’m making an original, slow-burn sci‑fi horror epic: Denis Villeneuve directing a “Arrival meets Annihilation meets 2001”‑style story about a colossal alien structure found near Neptune that starts warping reality across the solar system, written by Alex Garland, with Oscar Isaac as the obsessed mission commander, Florence Pugh as the scientist decoding the structure’s “language,” plus LaKeith Stanfield, John David Washington, Tessa Thompson, and Jessie Buckley in the crew/Earth roles, shot with massive practical sets, miniatures for space, minimal CGI, and a Hildur Guðnadóttir score doing the ominous cosmic dread.

I fund a live action adaptation of Kingdom Come, my favorite comic story ever written. It’s an alternate universe story written by Mark Waid, the guy who just rewrote the DC canon. Heavy emphasis on practical effects with some animated sequences made to match the art style of the comic for the intro and outro expositional narration. The story is a drama. I have the Nolan brothers write with Mark Waid to consult. I give Waid veto power on story decisions. Chris Nolan to direct. Male lead: I bring back Henry Cavill. This story requires an aged Superman, which he literally is and I felt like the problems with the Snyderverse Superman were writer problems, not actor problems. Female lead: Elizabeth Debicki as Wonder Woman. Put some muscle on her, dye her hair black, and you will not doubt she’s Diana of Themyscira. Plus she has the Nolan chemistry from being in Tenet. Male Supports: Sam Elliott as Norman McCay, Kevin Michael Richardson as the voice of the Spectre, Charles Dance as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Bill Skarsgard as Magog.. honestly there’s way more but I’m not gonna sit here and cast like 20 more roles lol. Female Supports: Uma Thurman as Jade, Famke Janssen as Donna Troy… Sydney Sweeney as Power Girl 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sydney Sweeney as Power Girl. I know what you are.

nisaar Mar 24, 2026 +3
I feel like a $500M budget isn’t enough and a single movie wouldn’t be long enough to cover the story but I would do the first book in “Riyria Revelations” which is theft of swords by Michael J. Sullivan who would have to be involved with the writing and directing, not sure who the best fantasy director would be but there are a few good choices. Hadrian Blackwater would have to be played by either Henry Cavil or similar, not sure about Royce but a younger dark haired actor, drawing a few blanks currently. There’s too many amazing characters to list but it would make for an epic multi movie franchise or tv series with a scope as large as LOTR or GOT, sadly the tv series rarely translate from books very well and often get butchered in the process.
