I believe in Zach Cregger. He said he had this idea before Weapons even came out, so if he’s passionate about it, I have some faith in it.

Yeah, it was originally part of the script. She had a whole POV section of the film. So he's not just pulling it out of thin air to make a prequel.

Kinda shakes the faith if he's not writing the whole thing himself, no? I get he's busy but I would prefer to not have a co-writer.

Maybe this one won’t devolve into slapstick comedy in the last twenty minutes like his other two movies.
Can’t wait for Resident Evil to have pratfalls and zombies slipping on banana peels.

I hope at the end Gladys pulls off her mask and reveals that she’s the president and fires them all.
Or she comes in and tells the other witches that there’s good news and bad news, the good news being there’s a ton of them out there and they may have found a tunnel in but they’re not there yet and the bad news she says “I’m the bad news” and the witches are all oh snap and she kills them all.

I mean most of the audience and fans are asking for it. She hit it out of the park and got a deserved Oscar for this role so why not!
I definitely would love to see a Gladys origin movie taking place during the late 1800s (if the consumption line meant that’s where she originated from). You all want original movies and this is one!

Nah, they're not worried about breakout hits spawning sequels. This is good for the industry.
The issue is never ending franchises.

This is exactly what I meant. It’s an original IP that isn’t a comic book, book, video game, toy, etc. If it spawns one origin prequel film, then I don’t have a problem with it.
But if they suddenly do Weapons 2, 3, 4….

This isn't original though, it's a prequel. The exact opposite of original.
I also think weapons is fine as a stand alone movie. It doesn't need to be explained more. Let it be

> Zach Cregger and Zach Shields will write the screenplay for the upcoming prequel to the critically acclaimed horror hit ‘Weapons.’ **The project’s current working title is ‘Gladys.’**
> Zach Shields most recently worked on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire for Warner Bros. and Legendary. Prior to that, he co‑wrote Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Krampus for Universal with Michael Dougherty.

Insert "how many Zachs does it take to write a screenplay?" joke here.
Also, I haven't seen Krampus but the Monsterverse hasn't had the greatest writing (or logic or characterization) to make this sound like a great move.
1
TangeloRough9202Apr 1, 2026

Krampus is really good, a great watch around Christmas. New Empire is complete dogshit.

What are the other instances of an actor reprising their Oscar-winning role?
Brad Pitt playing Cliff Booth again and Joaquin Phoenix playing Joker again come to mind.

Also, now that i remember, Cate Blanchett was nominated for Best Actress for both Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
Paul Newman was nominated for Best Actor for The Hustler then won it for playing the same character 25 years later in The Color of Money.
These comments are braindead. Id gladly watch a Gladys film, especially since Cregger had the idea well before Weapons was finished.

Sad I had to scroll down so far to find this opinion. Horror is one of the few genres where having less information enhances the intended effect.
I’m no doubt happy for everyone involved and will probably watch it, but I wish we could resist squeezing every dime out of anything remotely successful.

There's been a heavy, very heavy marketing push for Weapons, from before it's release, to the campaign for Gladys to be an awarded character, now to this eventual culmination into what's probably an attempt at making it a franchise with her character at the center

It's interesting as Madigan said Cregger gave her two options for Gladys: A woman who turned to black magic to keep her youth or an inhuman creature acting the way it thought a human did. She doesn't say which one she used.
I'd love to see Madigan enjoy the part, just worry as part of the mystique is not knowing enough about her.

I don’t know. It really didn’t work for Furiosa doing a prequel to an iconic female protagonist with a much younger actress just won’t sit to well with the GP. If it’s a prequel that Amy can be in I’m all for it.
Never understood the interest in prequels.

Unnecessary prequel co-written by a guy who writes CGI kaiju slop. I dunno man, Cregger has a longer leash for me than almost anyone in Hollywood, but this feels totally misguided.
