It’s pretty obvious where US stands right now

They went to campaign in favor of the only roadblock in Europe to helping Ukraine more, they shut off US aid to Ukraine, they called Zelensky ungrateful then rolled out the red carpet for Putin in Alaska. The most pro-Ukraine thing this admin has ever done was slight question if maybe Putin didn't want peace once. They could not possibly telegraph who's side they are on more.

Neat_Egg_2474 1 day ago +229
Vance literally just said the thing he is most proud of, MOST PROUD OF, is cutting off money to Ukraine. Out all everything they claim they accomplished, he is most proud of helping Russia. LOL. We are a joke of a country and Trump highlighted that for the world to see.

Adrian915 21 hr ago +66
European here, it's really nice to see this attitude prevalent in a lot of Americans but... Can you guys do something and get back to normalcy? It would be kinda nice if we experienced what normalcy could have been like post COVID without the world being on the brink of ww3.
66
PivotRedAce 21 hr ago +24
We’re trying, but frankly the objective truth is that not enough Americans are feeling the pressure to take drastic action. Right now, the best bet for a return to something resembling normalcy is a large swing in the midterm elections. Which judging by results from most of the special state-level elections seems like we’re heading towards. If so, the Democrats can unilaterally obstruct much of what Trump and his administration are doing.
24
Threecatproblem 21 hr ago +18
Unfortunately you're assuming that Drumpf and his sycophants won't cheat, lie, and steal the mid-term elections. Drumpf knows he'll be severely hampered with a Democrat House & Senate, so he will likely do ANYTHING to disrupt or even delay elections.

The majority of Americans are enraged at the government right now. The midterms will be interesting during and after. Hell, even the special elections happening right now are interesting. Speaking of which, I gotta go vote for Virginia redistricting.

> The majority of Americans are enraged at the government right now. The first Dem to even make overtures towards tapping into that anger would be able to use it to coast into eight years as president, and it's amazing to me that not a single one of them seems to be interested in doing it.

The US hasn’t sent anything to Ukraine in the last 2 years and has sent weapons already paid for elsewhere. They even make their own version of Patriot missiles because of lack of supply by the US which now has competition for these missiles.

Same, but it feels like any bit of money fundraised by personal donations are barely anything compared to what the US was contributing before. I'm just taking solace and getting humbled by how Europe's governments are stepping up and showing everyone how it's done.

The US is the country, and the country does not include its citizens at an individual level. As a Spaniard, every action taken and opinion expressed by Spain is not an action I consent to or an opinion I hold, but you it's still something Spain is responsible for. The US stands with Russia, which doesn't mean you specifically do, nor that you bear any blame for what the US stands for.

Millions of ordinary Americans have turned out in support of Ukraine. Every march has signs that shout support for Ukraine and shame upon the current administration and ½ Congress. Here is info about continued support for Ukraine. 79% of **Democrats** think the US should **give more support to Ukraine.** Luckily there are enough Dems in Congress, along with some Republicans and Independents, that there is continued support for Ukraine in money and weapons. The Court System has repeatedly forced Trump to release funds for Ukraine. https://news.gallup.com/poll/658193/support-greater-role-ukraine-climbs-high.aspx#:\~:text=Democrats%2C%20Independents%20Pushing%20Call%20for,is%20providing%20too%20much%20assistance.

Oh god, not another one of you idiots; Democrats and judges have done plenty; they’re literally the only ones doing anything substantial (despite what you may read in your local anarchist zines, your eight person mutual aid group is not doing anything to slow the momentum of the federal government of the most powerful nation on the planet when it’s in decided to enter into some kind of ‘mutual’ suicide pact with its own populace). The only exception to that rule is the people of Minneapolis, who were able to organize and dissuade ICE’s jackbooted thugs, at the cost of their safety and their own lives. But they themselves were being supported by Tim Walz, a Democrat governor, and Jacob Frey, also a Democrat. But other than that, admittedly inspiring case, civil society has done nothing to stop the advent of Trump - its only been Democratic actors and judicial institutions, who said civil society went out of their way to hobble, weaken, and attack, (for reasons that are continually becoming more and more tortured and obscure), who have been able to facilitate and maintain a defense against the regimes onslaught.

I get the frustration but the US, as a whole, voted him in. The rest of the world have to put up with the consequences. The US threatens to invade us, and even gloat about how easy it will be to do. And we had been your ally for decades.

Nah, not really. The media is already too much only saying trump instead of America or the US. If it really was only trump, the world wouldn’t be where it is, he has got too much backing in the us, both corporations and us citizens, just look around on listnook. Plenty still endorse him and plenty still do nothing about him. Stop washing your hands and pointing fingers. Act or own it - it is the US as a whole. And the rest of the world are tired of it!

36
staefrostae 1 day ago +2
These are indeed common phrases, specifically used to separate the way we address a government and its constituents. Even if I abhor the functions of a government, I don’t hold those feelings towards its people- especially in cases where the people have little to no say in their governance.

I don't often see Listnook users say " f*** Xi's China". In fact I remember when they successfully protested their COVID restrictions down and the common consensus on Listnook that Chinese people were diseased and should remain quarantined indefinitely. Or when Russia invaded Ukraine and the majority of World news seemed to agree that all Russians were to blame.

Sorry, but you have to own it before you get any respect back. I know (I'm pretty sure at least) it's not YOU, but it's still YOUR COUNTRY. But no, you're asking for special treatment again: you demand nuance when your country for exmaple blanket tariffs the whole planet. It's ridiculous. At the end of the day: the same way americans don't give a shit what's happening outside of their borders, the same way the rest of the world doesn't give a shit what's happening inside your borders. It's your problem.

The only good thing about this is that Trump is not proactively trying to cooperate with Russia in order to annex Ukraine for natural resources. This is what he wants to do, but his lizard brain is telling him that he can't. I would really like to watch his reaction if the tide turns while the Russian economy is in free fall. Hopefully this year. There will be a lot of squealing about Ukraine not wanting peace, I am sure.

Its kind of like what happens to people that get more and more obsessed with money and power. More money allows you extra freedom in the choices you take so you can lean more on the options you enjoy, but then you lose the plot and start going for the money even when its to the detriment of your enjoyment, even if you dont really need more money. Israel was set up as a strategic location that allowed the US more maneuvering ground in the middle east, so the US provided Israel with money because it played to the benefit of the US the more they grew. But at some point the US tunnel visioned on Israel so hard that Israel went from a useful servant to a drug addiction they think they cant live without

> Israel was set up as a strategic location that allowed the US more maneuvering ground in the middle east, so the US provided Israel with money because it played to the benefit of the US the more they grew. But at some point the US tunnel visioned on Israel so hard that Israel went from a useful servant to a drug addiction they think they cant live without Israel grew to a point where they don't need the US any more, and are capable in their own right. The US is worried that if they stop sucking up to Israel now, Israel will ally itself with China or another power instead. Which is especially scary for the US because, stupidly, they've allowed Israel much more detailed access to the on-board systems on military equipment than their other allies, to the point where Israel is capable of doing their own servicing, modifications, etc. This is why Biden didn't pull aid/weapons from Israel, too. Israel has a lot of leverage over the US at this point.

American farmers going bankrupt is a feature, not an unintended consequence, of the current regime. The farmers go broke, big corporations buy up the farm land, the feudal overlords now have control of the food supply and more control over the American people. And yet millions of them voted for this because it meant getting to hurt the scapegoat class.

Kushner and Witkoff only represent their own interests. It is a scandal for them to play any part in any U.S. diplomacy. Kushner manages billions of dollars of Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund and has personal ties to Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yet somehow he is deemed a suitable representative for the U.S. negotiations with Iran? That is insane! Conflicts of interest aside, neither Witkoff nor Kushner have any diplomatic, military, or regional special knowledge of Russia and Ukraine. Neither knows either language. They only represent their own grifting interests.

I meant "married his way to political power in Trump's admin" - I mean he's not officially in Trump's admin, but he's clearly one of the main players.
4
BrupieD 1 day ago +4
>Kushner married his way to power. Maybe. Kushner's father Charles Kushner was a very wealthy attorney, real-estate developer, and slumlord. Dad made a generous donation to Harvard shortly before Jared applied and unsurprisingly, Jared was accepted. Jared married Ivanka back in 2009 -- long before Trump held office. At that time, Trump's political ambitions were known, but he was a long shot for winning anything. Ivanka and Jared were just two rich kids with shady parents. There's a funny story about former New Jersey governor and former prosecutor Chris Christie. Christie prosecuted Charles Kushner for fraud. When Jared was getting married to Ivanka, Donald Trump invited Christie to the wedding! He declined.

This is a definitive shift in tone from Ukraine, and I'm all about it. Ukraine has demonstrated an impressive ability to shift how wars will be fought going forward, and to impact the war the U.S. has picked with Iran. When the U.S. begged for help protecting its bases from Iranian drones, Kyiv responded right away. If Ukraine elects to stay out of that fight, the U.S. position becomes impossible rapidly - there's no support, no logistical preparation, no coalition, the U.S. can't even get permission to fly thru allied airspace. So... yeah, not the people to be offering disrespect to, at all, on any level. Ukraine was already making the right moves in case this was gonna be the choice, too. Damn, Bone Spurs & his suck-ups are ***stupid***.

The US "leadership" right now is pathetic. Between the grift, kiddie diddling and booze it's just an utter train wreck. Perhaps we can get some control of things after November and start investigating and impeaching, but that's nowhere near certain. If it were up to me, Ukraine would have access to any assistance they desired and we would be working towards a much stronger economic and military partnership with all of Europe.

Read "Ukraine Has Finally Given Up on Trump - Zelensky has written off the United States." by Phillips Payson O’Brien, published on April 18, 2026 in The Atlantic.

I love the clusterfuck of war orientation right now. Russia attacks Ukraine, at some point, Trump tries to basically seize Ukraine's natural mineral rights in perpetuity Trump is almost certainly a Russian asset Trump attacks Iran for no reason, Ukraine backs Trump, because Russia's ties with Iran Ukraine mad because Trump doesn't give a shit about Ukraine Reality TV is more believable

I'm just glad we didn't show up in Ukraine and tell them we're invading there too. Sounds like some dumb shit we'd do

Failure to visit is probably due to Trump's instructions, which were dictated to him (Trump) by Putin. Trump is a traitor.

Zelensky himself must be either stupid or insane if he hasn't yet figured out the motives of the current White House administration. This is what happens when comedians and TV personalities are elected to the highest office (UKR and USA).

A lot about the Trump rule of government is disrespectful. Not just to Ukraine...

I agree. The US told them originally we would be behind them all the way. We were in constant contact. We were helping them defeat the Russians with technology, know what Russia is up to and where they were coming from, arms, other intelligence. Then along came Trump, doing anything he can to help Putin, and trying to sound like he's not. I don't think the US feels like avoiding Ukraine. I still feel we want to support them, but the president doesn't care at all what the people want. Let's just turn this into a police state.

since the current administration most likely don't have any respect for the Kyiv regime, they probably didn't feel like going to Kyiv and pretend to have respect? or do you want them to visit Kyiv and pretend to have respect?(which is disrespectful in itself, no?)
