One for the history books. Which will remember Zelensky kindly.

It's more what happens after the war than during
14
Thedisparagedartist 5 days ago +29
I dont know how much that applies anymore. We dont just have history books, we have the internet, social media, and plenty of information storing and sharing technology. Even if ukraine loses and Russia tries to propagandize their victory, the rest of the world has seen their weakness. A phyrric victory is phyrric, despite how victorious you claim to be.

"I need guns, not a ride." will not be forgotten though. That went hard as f***.

I think it was, "I need ammo, not ride" Still hard as f, though.

It's a bad week to be an oil refinery
542
ken_the_boxer 6 days ago +111
Didn't know there was an oil refinery on the red square.
111
JackhusChanhus 6 days ago +154
I'd be nearly sure they'll use the parade and associated occupation of air defense as a distraction to hammer strategic assets. Bombing red square only gives more vatnik propaganda fuel, whereas the military parading around while state assets are helplessly bombed is peak dry Soviet humour material. Unless of course the massed troops and air defenses are chosen as the target
154
skwerrel 6 days ago +51
I doubt they have the precision to be sure there wouldn't be collateral damage. If they bomb the parades they either need to just go all in and make it a campaign of terror (which they should not do, but that's better than trying to aim at the soldiers and taking out a bunch of civilians anyways), or use some alternative payload. Yellow and blue glitter, or concentrated piss. Something harmless but sends the message that they could have easily made it a bloodbath if they wanted to.
51
JackhusChanhus 6 days ago +19
If the area were to be attacked, it would be the staging areas and the air defenses, not the parade itself. Depends on how much army presence there is mind, mightnt be worth it. There would definitely be collateral risk, but this doesn't usually stop Ukraine, plenty of FP2s get jammed into tower blocks
19
skwerrel 6 days ago +15
Perhaps, but they're still better off hitting refineries and infrastructure while the AA is pointed elsewhere. Blowing up a peaceful parade just looks bad, even if they somehow only hit military targets
15
JackhusChanhus 6 days ago +15
Definitely better off, hitting money will stop the war, killing Russians won't. But I don't imagine anyone would much care if a load of minimally armed Russian soldiers got cleanly lit up... they buried several hundred sleeping Russians with ballistic missiles on NYE and no one said anything against it, because the reputational points to be lost by admitting you can't protect troops even in their bases are more than the points to be gained by loudly crying foul at Ukraine
15
skwerrel 6 days ago +3
I mean if they can be completely sure that it will only hit military targets, then I'd hope they do both.
3
TxM_2404 6 days ago +8
Is it really peaceful if it's parts of the Army that are marching? If they have real ammunition they should be a valid target for a strike.
8
ThellraAK 5 days ago +9
Being a member of the Russian military makes you a valid target for a strike.
9
Delbert3US 5 days ago +2
Having the AA in a known location could make it easier to take out.

Drones that fly overhead with speakers: "Putin bombed our capital... we're better than that" and then drop a bunch of Ukrainian flags.
7
Ghinev 5 days ago +1
>alternative loads I suggest the humble carp pheromones. Or Surströmming
1
Werftflammen 5 days ago -3
Why bomb the parade? It has no military value. The damage to Putin's image has already been done. It would be better to declare a ceasefire on the eve of the 8th or do a massive attack on Crimea.
-3
autoeroticassfxation 5 days ago +6
I think now is the time to go all in on the resources. Oil is extremely valuable right now. Cut their resources, and you cut their logistics, and you cut their ability to fund and wage war. When Russia fractures, taking Crimea back will be a cake walk, it might even just get handed back.
6
Ok-Craft4844 6 days ago +13
Dont bomb the red square, just gift a few temu drones to local mischievous youths and watch the crowds scatter in panic as they hear the "weeeeeeere" of the drones, and make sure there's enough smartphone footage
13
Idiot_Savant_13 5 days ago +10
I'm partial to the advantages - both strategic & diplomatic - of an attack path sending waves PAST the Red Square en route to specific military targets. If Russia intercepts them over Moscow, that's going to cause collateral damage in Moscow... and forces Russia to choose how many & which ones of the waves to try & intercept. So many ways Ukraine can complicate Russia's day, and it is all of it self-inflicted:: Putin could declare peace and withdraw today... so all of this is a choice.
10
Delbert3US 5 days ago +3
I LIKE that idea. The debris would be better than direct bombs. "You did it to yourselves."
3
greggld 6 days ago +6
Yes, I have said the same. It's a great bait and switch tactic.
6
beekersavant 6 days ago +3
Yeah prob enough to get through a couple on Moscow. But my guess is that they are going to make them spend a lot of assets to protect a soft target and hit everywhere. It's an opportunity to embarrass Putin. I doubt anyone cares about propoganda in Russia at this point. Putin will go until Russia breaks and all the young men and old political hands that would run a revolution died at the front or fell out of windows.
3
EnigmA03x 6 days ago +2
on another note tho, i imagine it would be a huge humiliation if the red square were hit during the parade. If that doesnt drop morale (more than it has already) idk what will
2
Hugford_Blops 5 days ago +2
Last year weren't they down to having no modern tanks, or only a single one which kept driving back around to do laps because they were plumb out of hardware?
2
JackhusChanhus 5 days ago +2
It wasn't that they didn't have any, its that the losses were getting so significant that showing any off instead sending em to the front would attract more contempt than pride. Now it's that plus the real risk of their MIRVs etc getting bombed
2
noir_lord 6 days ago +14

Let fire reign on the red square!
91
Finchypoo 5 days ago +51
Nah, let a f***-ton of yellow and blue glitter rain on the red square. Show the average moscow citizen how much Putin can't keep them sheltered from Ukraine, embarrass the shit out of them. There are going to be a lot of regular citizens at that parade and wether or not they support Putin and the war, they are still civilians and should not be a military target. Glitter bombs is a very distinct "we could if we wanted to and your government is too weak to stop us"

why use glitter when you can use glitter and some skunk spray for maximum embarrassment. also that is an exilent idea
2
G00DLuck 5 days ago +1
Amazing how hard this paint / glitter bomb idea is being pushed. It almost seems like cowardly rusians asking not to have their parade bombed to shit. There will be military targets in the parade. Kinetic sanctions should be delivered upon those targets.

Zelensky honored the cease fire so that Russia could have it's WW2 victory parade. Zelensky's grandfather fought for the soviet union in World War 2. Zelensky is an honorable man. Putin is not.
29
drinkduffdry 6 days ago +27
Hasn't happened yet. This was more of an exercise in showing the futility in unilateral declarations and an immediate response for the absolute fit that the Kremlin is going to throw when theirs isn't respected either.

No-Shopping-4434 5 days ago +4
I don’t understand why you would ever let him have this parade? Either he has to pull back forces to protect the parade, giving Ukraine footholds, or he has to keep his forces on the line and open himself up to getting assassinated. It really seems like a win/win to attack him hard while the parade starts

They should name a whole class of missiles sanctions, with name of countries different payloads or capabilities. "General, send in some french sanctions." "My god. Are you sure, sir?" "We've no choice. They should be thankful we're not sending German instead."

Russian idea of a ceasefire is the same with Israel. Basically Ukraine needs to "cease fire" while Russia keeps firing.

Looks like your account is created just a week ago so you may be not aware of Russia's mercenaries being kicked out of Mali because of their army can't support them while loosing in Ukraine. You may also missed that Russia's lost control over Syria when its army could not support Assad for the same reason. You haven't heard that Iran tested and developed its drones in the Russian-Ukraine war and now can use it to terrorize the whole Middle East and block Hormuz Strait so the gas prices rise everywhere from Japan to US. But other than that, sure, nothing important.

"And here we have a perfect example of human selfishness, whereby the misery, suffering, pain, and death being inflicted upon other humans fails utterly to impinge upon the person's psyche, even to the point that they, rather than merely passively ignoring the issue, actively dismiss and belittle the dire situation these people find themselves in. Like a boar that only cares about its next meal and ignores the birds fighting in the sky, they have no empathy or sympathy for the plights of those not directly impacting their life. Truly, for them, it is as if the rest of the world is irrelevant: only their own worldview, myopic as it is, holds any weight to them; the cries of compassion and hope fall on deaf ears."
