>Details: During the interview, Zelenskyy shared a summary from the daily presidential briefing he receives from Ukrainian intelligence services. The report stated that Russian satellites had taken images of Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on 20, 23 and 25 March.
>"We know that if they make images once, they are preparing. If they make images a second time, it's like a simulation. The third time it means that in one or two days, they will attack," he said.

Feels like it would only be odd if there aren't Russian satellites taking pictures of the base every few days (or even daily).
This may be a case where there are hundreds of locations where spy satellites are keeping an eye on, just that you do not know which one will be hit. Simply saying "yeah, they are taking pictures of your base" after the attack feels kind of weak - since you can just ask "what about the 99 other targets like the refinery 3 blocks away or the port by the coast?"
There is also the matter of "what can you do?" Will you just move assets from the base because it is under constant threat? You have got your defenses set up, and I doubt the base would have nothing to defend against attacks. The base may just be as safe as it can reasonably get.

What he said implies they have more than just satellite orbit data, which is openly available because you can't really hide satellites.
Just because you know when a satellite is passing over, doesn't mean you know what its tasking is. For him to be specific about exactly how many observations they made of a specific place implies that they have a source which can confirm that information to them. Whether that's a human source or signals intelligence or something else is what's unknown.

How do you know or notice that a satellite is taking images form a base?
351
VirindiMar 29, 2026
+377
>How do you know or notice that a satellite is taking images form a base?
Everyone's monitoring and tracking each other’s satellites in orbit, using other satellites or ground-based sensors. Once a satellite is tracked, analysts can record its position, altitude, orientation, and trajectory at any given time. With that information, combined with known details about the satellite’s imaging capabilities, they can estimate what area of earth it could be observing at a specific moment. If a satellite adjusts its position or pointing direction, that provides additional clues. By combining orbital data, sensor capabilities, and knowledge of high-value or “interesting” locations, countries can make a pretty good assessment of what another nation’s satellite is likely observing, even if they don’t know with absolute certainty.
In some cases, countries may be able to intercept and decrypt satellite communications, in which case they (of course) know exactly what's collected and transmitted.
377

Satellites don't just change their position, altitude, and trajectory at any given time, lol. Maybe they can change their orientation, but wouldn't it be better for them to just reorient their camera, as it's harder to notice that way? Either way, this is not something you can use to check what they are taking pictures of.
> In some cases, countries may be able to intercept and decrypt satellite communications, in which case they (of course) know exactly what's collected and transmitted.

I have no idea I’ve been trying to think about this. I do know that they would know the location of the satellites. I assume every government knows exactly we’re all these thousands of satellites are in space specifically ones that are designed for aerial imaging. It’s not like every satellite is up there taking photos. It’s probably only a couple hundred satellites up there taking photos. They also rotate around the Earth and that takes however, many hours per day. So I assume it’s something related to that but it’s fascinating to think about the technology.

Apparently France does most of it now, because there was a rumor that the intel we gave Ukraine also *curiously* was getting leaked back to Russia.

In many of Trump's actions you can see the ultimate expression of the war obsessed, imperialist neo-Cons from a bygone era. It's morbidly fascinating watching those ambitions, which would normally involve thwarting Russia at every possible step, clash with Trump's deranged loyalty to Putin.
And there's really nothing Putin could have in terms of blackmail that would actually threaten Trump at this point, so it seems likely he's bending over for Putin entirely of his own free will. Which is just bizarre. By any measure America is the stronger of the two countries, therefore Trump should see himself as the dominant one between the two of them. But he's such a little b**** where Putin is concerned. Its all just so f****** strange and defies conventional logic.

Trump only cares about one thing, money. He doesn't care if Americans starve, get shot, or that the US turns into a despised, mistrusted country, as long as he and his cronies get more out of it.
He sold the country to the highest bidder and Putin is always bidding..

This is a smart move from Zelensky. He knows Trump is in favor of ending the Ukrainian war as soon as possible and giving Russia whatever it wants to do so (not recognizing that Russia would just request all the heavily defended territory... then just attack when Ukraine loses all its defenses).
So, instead of attacking the Pedo in Chief directly, he's consistently making it clear to the American public that Russia is killing Americans with their actions and Russia is trying to undermine the US everywhere.
Contrary to what many people say, this is causing strife in conservative circles who are getting increasingly mad at Russia. This puts pressure on Trump as Trump's popularity is tanking and is crushing Republican chances at the mid terms causing the party to turn on Trump. Trump's efforts to take control of the elections are falling apart and people are voting against candidates he backs.

It's not smart to leave planes laying about on runways stationary for any period of time. It's also not smart to group them.
The US and allies are lazy because they are not used to fighting an enemy who can reach out and hit them. They are used to immunity from attack outside the borders of the nation they are bombing. Iran is a little more prepared than others were.

Russia is not doing well but it was definitely not on the brink of collapse. The Russian state is very stable and has a functioning government and they hold all of their territory while maintaining trade relations with multiple countries.

This won’t refill any coffers, at least not while the war continues, and is possibly a very bad thing for Russia in the short term. They announced just yesterday that they were shutting off all gasoline exports. If prices are high and they need cash so badly, why would they do that? The answer is that high prices globally also mean high prices domestically and the Russian people are already suffering massive inflation and high gas prices at the pumps. This sudden price spike is a big problem for the Kremlin if it can’t keep gas prices down because the Russian people may finally feel the effects of the war on their own lives, and that’s how you get protests, unrest and possibly forced to end the war. In the most extreme case, people may even revolt, but I wouldn’t hold my breath hoping for that.

Pretty cool that the world taught Russia and Iran how to do this with victory lap articles on how Ukraine was able to strike deep into Russian lines and rely on satellite imagery, etc. What's even more ridiculous is the US learned nothing about what ukraine accomplished and left an AWACS parked where Iran could destroy it

US took satellite photos of Iranian defenses. China took photos of US bases, Russia took photos of Israel and US bases. Are we really discussing this? He doesn't need USA to go to war with Russia, he just needs to split the republicans to come on the anti-Russia side and then get a little bit of help from the USA to punish Russia by giving Ukraine some new weapons. It's a logical and calculated move to get USA back to supporting Ukraine. If that means going against Trump, so be it, but it's subtle, sneaky and clever. The orange man will never figure out Zelensky is going around his back straight to american people.
